I’m sorry Eric. She said charging at him with her knife. He dodged a knife and grabbed Bexley by her jacket and slammed her into the wall. Bexley grunted at her back been smashed into the wall. Something cracked but she doubt it was her back. She would’ve felt more pain if it was.
Want to kill you! He said holding his forearm against her shoulders. Eric clench his hands around the lapels of her jacket and stronger across the kitchen floor. Bexley’s body left a crater in the wall .
You thought it was a smart idea to come in my home and tell me this? Are you stupid he asked Benton down over. He wasn’t afraid of her and doubt she could do much even with a knife. Bexley pulled herself up on one knee and chin checked him with her elbow. Eric held his face stumbling back to the dining room doorway . Bexley chores him and kicked him into the table. Eric caught himself from sliding across the table. He grabbed the wine bottle threw it at Bexley aiming for her head. She dodges and watched it shatter on the kitchen floor. When she looked back at Eric was inches away from her and tackled her to the ground. He was always taught never to get a woman but knew it was out the window for killing his mother. He took one good jab into her face hoping it would knock her out. Bexley need him in the groin and threw them off of her. Eric laid there holding himself in excruciating pain. Bexley stood there waiting for him to try her again. It was a mistake for him to assume she was week. This wasn’t a normal fight where there are rules to invite by. Eric pushed himself up slowly making its way to his feet. The trigger clicked. Eric looked up to see a barrel staring him down.
Try me again she said. With her gun anchored on the trigger. I’ve been in the house for a while and while I was waiting I got bored so I decided to take a look around the house and found something I assume would be useful. I guess I was right. She said.
Bexley put the gun down. He patted the air with one hand. From what he can tell she didn’t know what she was doing and had been improvising the whole time. He didn’t believe she would shoot him but he felt it was never a good idea to have a gun pointed in your face. She never look like she use a gun and what if she accidentally pulled the trigger he thought. You’re not gonna..
Eric ducked at the gun being shot passes head. She shot the wineglass on the table behind him. His face was enraged as he stood there holding his ears. He now knew she was serious and wasn’t playing games.
Do I look like I’m trying to play games what you? She asked. Either I can kill you right here or you can come with me and live. Your choice she said pulling her pair of zip tie from her jacket. Eric wasn’t ready to die and he definitely wasn’t going to risk letting her Nepolai get away with what they did. Eric held his wrist together and put them out for her to tie. She threw it out of. Bexley was cautious she wasn’t want to get close to let him take the gun away from her. Eight yourself she said.
Eric caught the zip ties and put them around his wrist and pulled them tight with his teeth. She flickered the gun backwards to the dining room. Let’s go I’ll be right behind you. And if you try something off pulled the trigger. She said. Bexley followed behind Eric through the dining room and out the front door. Bexley popped the trunk of her car parked in front of the house. He pulled it open with the gun still pointing at Eric.
Are you serious? He asked. She didn’t respond. Eric step down off the curb and glared at Bexley. When I get out of this I’m coming for you first. He said clenching his jaw. She slammed the trunk after he was in and got in the car. She felt a tingle under her I and rubbed it and flinch from the pain. She adjusted the rear view mirror and saw her cheek was bruised and swollen. By how good he got her in the face she surprised it’s not bigger.
Is this why am now? She asked looking past the bruised and at the pursing staring back at her. She looked down at her keys before starting a car. She knew there was no chance for her to go back to she was and she would have to follow through with what she started. Hopefully Nepolai was able to stop her for doing anything reckless and she would forgive me after all of this is over. She thought
Chapter 22
Nepolai’s boots unbuckled up the staircase at his body was being dragged to the second floor. He was starting to regain his conscious but he was still disoriented from the blows he took to the head. Nepolai chuckled thinking about how good the hunter got him. He knew next time not to let us guard down. He thought about Aubri and realize how serious the situation was. It look like the father got tired of waiting for Nepolai to make a decision and was about to make it form. If he keep anyone from dying he was going to have to kill the father first. Nepolai’s body fell to the ground in his face dropped to the carpet on the back was pulled from his head. It was soft red and had a gold pattern running around the edges.[DAB17]
Nepolai! I’m glad you were able to make it. Its good to see you, it truly is. The father said. The father had been putting books on his bookshelf. Have you decided to take me up on that offer? The father ask. Nepolai didn’t respond. All he can think about was cutting the fathers throw and then draining every ounce of life from the guy who knocked him out. It was only fair he thought.
Nepolai looked around the room and besides him the hunters in the father there was no one else. Wears Aubri he asked. The father pulled another book from his shelf. It was thick wide and looked heavy. The cold look like leather in the embroidered on it read the community. The father open the book to the middle and started flipping two pages like you already know what he was looking for. He found this page and sat the book on his desk.
I want to tell you a story a story you might enjoy actually. Maybe not but I guess it depends on your perspective. He said. Nonetheless it’s a good one and one I’m sure you would consider familiar. He said. The father said in his chair and collapsed his hands on his desk. There was his boy four to be exact. Smart kid and had a lot of potential. My fiancée at the time loved this boy in fact she was best friends with his mother. On the nights of his fifth birthday she found him kneeling in the pull of blood. One by one he took the life of those he loved most. Nepolai eyes raced along the carpet. He Remember the dream he had been having for the past 18 years. A malice grin grew on the father’s face. He knew Nepolai was now back at his childhood home. The boy did a wonderful job better than all the kids who have been initiated as an outsider to this day. Even better than some of the adults who became one with our community.
Nepolai’s nose flared in his eyes buried beneath his eyebrows. That’s a dream that I’ve been having my whole life. How do you know about that? Nepolai asked.
The father rubbed his for head. He was certainly getting frustrated with Nepolai. It wasn’t a dream! He said. It was you. Your the boy who slaughtered his family. Nepolai stomach caved in on itself. His mouth hung open in his eyes widen. The father was right He remembered. His heart knocked and felt like it was banging against his throat. After trying to figure out the meeting of the dream he couldn’t help but wish that it remained that way.
The poll I remember himself getting out of his bed and grabbing a knife from under his pillow he struggled to remember how an 8 inch blade got there. He walked out into the the dark hallway and looked down the banister just see the light still on downstairs. His head jolted left down the hallway. His sister grown and it sounded like she was having a nightmare as he remembered her having. She never told anyone what it was because she was too scared to talk about it. He could only remember his mother telling her that whatever it was she was stronger than it and that she was in control of what happened in her dreams. Nepolai walked down the hall into his sister’s room. She looked perfectly fine and she probably remembered the words from their mother. He watched her sleep for minutes. Her hair was was thick and curly and covered most of her face. He tucked her hair behind her ears so he could see her and say goodbye to her but no words ever came out of his mouth. He slid the blade over her trachea and watched her struggle for air. Her blood gushed out staining the perfectly white pillows she laid her head on. After a few minutes she stopped moving. He didn’t know if he was
dead and he wasn’t entirely sure what he had did but even if she wasn’t dead yet it wouldn’t be long before she was. Nepolai walked back out into the hallway and seen at his parents door was still open so he knew they were in and there. It was unlike them to sleep with their door open. The local news station forecasting tomorrow’s weather made its way to the second floor. He followed the sound down the steps and looked out the front door. It was mostly glass what a wooden border with a green circular Bush with the red bow hanging on the outside. He watched snow fall to the ground completely covering everything to where all he could see was white.
So make sure you bundle up in the morning and get those car started at least a half hour before you head out in the morning. A man on a new station warned its viewers.
Nepolai left the door and walked towards the living room. He had seen his father on the couch facing the television thrown back a few beers. He had worked long hours and it was normal for him watch as much TV as he could before he would have to start his work they all over again the next day. Without hesitation Nepolai stood behind the couch he ran the blade across his father’s throat. If he didn’t act fast his father would’ve seen the blade inch over his neck making it more difficult for him to kill him. Just like his sister he watched his father choked on his blood. He dropped his glass of beer on the carpet and had jumped from the couch holding his throat watching a little boy with the blade covered in his blood. His eyes were wide and terrified. He washes father stumble into the hall and slip in the blood that had made it past his hands on to the hardwood floor. He laid there in front of the front door struggling to breathe. His body became more lifeless the more the blood drained from his throat creating a puddle around him.
Running water echoed into the living room from the kitchen. Niels knocked against a hard wood floor it was his mom resting into the living room.
Nepolai would you doing out of. She paused when she seen her husband laying in the pull of blood. All my God! She screamed. Nikolai! Baby! She said dropping down to his body and picking up his head. Tears rushed down her cheeks. She tried shaking him awake but he wouldn’t. But she kept repeating his name. Her head laid on his chest as she wept over his body. She finally gave up. Nepolai crept behind his mother his feet squishing and small puddles of blood. Before she could turn around to see if her boy was okay she felt a knife sink into her back. She welled in pain and fail next to her husband. The poll I took the knife out and jabbed it in her back several times over until she was completely lifeless. The blade dropped to the floor right when Nepolai did kneeling in the blood of his parents. Every sound in the house faded into nothingness. The TV was no longer speaking and the running water had stopped. He stared at his hands and rubbed his family’s blood from them but it wouldn’t come off. His heart raced in his breathing was short and scattered. He was realizing what had happened over the past half hour and couldn’t believe what he did. His eyes became foggy from the tears growing in his eyes. The house was no longer silent. Boots emerged emerged from behind him and stood in front of him. When he looked up he seen a woman extending her hand out to him. He can finally see her face a face. he has grown to admire.
Nora of course betrayed me by not bringing you in after you completed here first job. The father said. Nepolai’s eyes were bloody red. His chiefs were drenched in tears the first he could remember in a long time. The father stood up from his desk. Are you crying? The father ask. You don’t need to feel sad for what you did. Suck it up forgot sake. Everyone and I mean everyone here has to do it whether it’s your mother or your father or friend it’s a part of who we are. He said. It’s a part of the structure of our community. Nepolai felt torn like the insides of him had been shredded into bits.
Leah took the father’s knife from his desk and walked behind Nepolai. She slid the blade across his neck barely nicking his skin[DAB18].
I Want to ask you again and this will be the last time. Are you ready to make things right? The father said sitting on the edge of his desk. Nepolai looked up at the father of tears running down his face and stands to his feet. He stairs dead into his eyes.
No. Nepolai said without hesitation. Find yourself another slave.
You do know I will kill everyone you know right? Everyone! Father yelled.
Not before I kill you first. Nepolai said. The father glared back at Nepolai. He knew he was serious but he wasn’t afraid. A lot of people came for his title but no one was ever successful.
Get him out of here. He said walking back to his desk. The hunters to the bag back over Nepolai’s head and dragged him out of the father’s room.
Chapter 23
Bexley pulled in between a group of cars across from the mansion Nepolai wanted her to meet him at. During the whole call right over Eric had been thumping guess and trunk trying to kick his way out. She cut the cord that popped the trunk from the inside and locked the back seats from voting down. It was no way for him to get out he could try but he’ll just wear himself out Bexley thought. A black SUV sped d around the corner and pulled in to the driveway of the mansion. Two men got out from the front and pulled a woman from the trunk. She had been kicking and punching the man without much effect. She notice that she looked familiar. She rolled down the window and try to make out the face of the woman. Rylan? She said. She thought Nepolai was going to put her somewhere safe away from all this chaos but either there was no place for him to put her that was safe or they got to her before he could. She pulled out her phone and out Nepolai. The phone rang once and then went to voicemail. She hung up and tried again this time going straight to voicemail without ringing.
Let go of me! Rylan yelled.
This is not good. She said. Bexley got out the car and followed behind the man forcing Rylan into the house. She ducked behind the SUV and watched the door slam behind him. As she ran up the steps to the door she realized she was putting herself in danger for someone she didn’t even care about. She second-guessing she should turn and doorknob and walked in to the unexpected even if it meant it would be the end of her life. She turned the knob and pushed the door open it was unlocked. A part of her wish it wasn’t but she continued into the mansion anyway. A second car pulled up just as she shut the door behind her.
Rylan’s screams echoed to the house but she wasn’t sure where was coming from. She screamed again and sound as if it was coming from the second floor. Bexley ran to the flight of stairs that had to be at least 40 feet away. She crept to the second floor and followed the stream right of the staircase. She peaked her head around the corner cautious of who might have been around the corner. She seen a man zip tying Rylan’s hands in duct tape and her face. Bexley ducked her head back behind the corner when one of the man duct taping her looked down the hall. Her heart was thumping against her chest. She wondered if there was another way to get closer to the room Rylan was in. She turned in the opposite direction and headed for the opposite corner but runs headfirst into a man. He stared down at her before grabbing her jacket and knocking her out.
A burning sensation grew on Bexley’s face. She realized her body was being dragged but it was still hard for her to see anything but a blurry wall moving. The hunter dropped her next to Rylan before duct taping her and zipped tying her hands behind her back. When Bexley came fully to she seen what she could only describe as a nightmare. Aubri was tied up just like Rylan had been. She was crying and struggling to scream for help.
Chapter 24.
The room Nepolai was sitting in was a dark empty room that he assumes was made to look like a sale. When he was first thrown in to the room he couldn’t help but walk around and see if there was a way out. The windows were barred shut. There were events at the top of the ceiling but it was way too far out of reach considering the room was completely empty there was no way he was going to be able to get himself to it. What do you do when you realize just how cold of a human being you were? He thought to himself. And how sick does one have to be to manipulate a kid, a kid into murdering his own family. Nepolai p
ulled against the zip ties trying to snap it or maybe squeeze his hand through one of them but they were too tight. He couldn’t help but think why Nora had lie to him. But she knew he wasn’t want to be able to handle it, no one ever did. If she would’ve took him back to the community they would’ve taught him that his family deserved it. She knew they didn’t and she felt tremendous guilt after-the-fact. There would be no way for him to get over what he did. No way for him to move past it and nothing she could say to make him feel better about himself. He realized that maybe she was just protecting him but at the same time he can’t help but feel she’s no better than the community.
There was no possible way for Nepolai to get out of the room but at the first chance he got he needed a plan. One that will get him to the father as soon as possible. He wasn’t one of Mrs. chance to kill him. He tried to remember the path he was taking from the father’s room. He remembered coming down the stairs and being dragged left which would’ve meant if he was coming straight into the house from the front door it was on the right side of the mansion. The last thing he could remember was being thrown in a room on the left side of the hall. He couldn’t remember how far down it was but just knowing where he was within the mansion was enough to leave him in the right direction. The real problem was how would he get past the father’s hunters. Sure he could do some damage with his hands tied but he couldn’t take on dozens hunters he knew were scattered across the mansion. Nepolai stopped circling the room. A grunt came from the other side of the door. It must’ve been one of the hunters but what was going on he thought. The thought follow the grunt. For second it was quiet and he wasn’t sure if he should try opening the door sure it was locked. The door cracked open Nepolai seen the hunter who he had knocked out at the police station facedown on the ground. What the hell is going on? He thought to himself. He crept up to the door and seen the hunters blade on his belt. He couldn’t help but think if this was his chance or someone was playing games with him. But that didn’t make sense why they knock out their own guy maybe he was playing dead. He didn’t know but he felt if he didn’t try and act in the moment he would regret it later. Nepolai dashed to the body and turned around to grab his knife. He pulled the knife from the sleeve and ran back into the room. It would be smart from the keep his back turned towards the door. He slid the blade across the plastic zip ties waiting for them the snap. One zip tie snap frame one of his hands. He cut the other one often rubbed wrist and walked back to the door. He looked down the hall but didn’t see anyone there. He looked left of the door and there was nothing but a window. The poll I stepped over the hunter and sped walk down the hall. He heard growing closer down the hall from the front of the mansion. Before they turn coming in and his direction he made a right into a shorter Hall.
