  Blurb:

Gavin Price has had enough. He’s lost countless relationships because he can’t seem to take that last step into intimacy. Never again. He’s going to get rid of his pesky virginity.

It’s a simple enough plan. Go into a club, pick up a handsome guy. Shouldn’t be hard. Other people do it all the time.

Of course, other people don’t run into Saul Simmons, a man with eyes that seem to change color, and whose sheer presence makes Gavin’s breath catch. One night together, and Gavin thinks this might be it. He might have finally found someone worth not only of his body, but also of his heart.

And then, Saul mysteriously disappears, leaving Gavin heart-broken and... quickly gaining weight? What in the world is happening to him? And why is his stomach suddenly being kicked from the inside? Surely it must be indigestion from his new excessive diet of meats.

Unbeknownst to Gavin, Saul is actually a werewolf. From the very first moment they meet, Saul realizes they are mates. But Saul is also a naturally born Alpha, and his pack has very specific plans for him, none of them including a bonding with a human. He also has no idea he’s going to be a daddy.

Can two men from two different worlds accept everything they thought they knew was wrong? Can they handle both a forbidden relationship and impending parenthood? They’re definitely going to try.

  Chapter One

Gavin slowly inserted the key in the lock and twisted it, paying close attention to not making any noise. As he pushed the door open, he scanned the hallway of his apartment, only to see it clear of any people. So far so good. Richard was probably home, but he must be on their work computer, browsing the most recent job listings.

Gavin took off his shoes and placed them down. His stockinged feet made no noise as he walked from the hallway toward the kitchen. He removed the champagne, and whipped cream from the bag, hesitated over the lube and condoms and finally left them inside. If everything went well, he'd have to carry them to the bedroom anyway.

This was it, the day he'd been waiting for so long. Today, it was his and Richard's two months anniversary, and Gavin had finally decided to take a leap of faith and celebrate it in style.

Even if he hadn't actually done this before, he knew how it worked, and he even had some fantasies which he couldn't wait to share with Richard. He intended to slip into something more comfortable and pour Richard a glass of champagne, but he lost interest in that tentative plan when a moan of pleasure reached his ears.

Dread building in his heart, Gavin abandoned the supplies in the kitchen and walked toward the bedroom. The closer he got, the clearer the sounds became. He wanted to think Richard was masturbating or watching a porn movie, but he couldn't possibly deceive himself in such a way.

The confirmation to his worst fears came when he dared to crack the door to the bedroom open. Two male bodies lay entwined on the bed, moving rhythmically. The sound of flesh slapping against flesh nauseated Gavin, especially since he recognized Richard as the guy currently pounding into the ass of some stranger.

Gavin could almost hear his own heart break—which really, seemed like a very silly thought to have right now. But Gavin couldn't be expected to be one hundred percent rational, not when his entire world had come crumbling down.

He hesitated for so long that Richard and his lover ended up climaxing while Gavin watched. Seeing them writhe together in orgasm infuriated Gavin. He shoved the door open and burst into the room. "What in the world is going on here?"

It was a stupid question, since Richard's dick was just now leaving the other man's body.

"Gavin. Shit. I thought you were working late," Richard replied, having enough decency to pull the sheets over his naked body.

"I wanted to surprise you," Gavin shot back, feeling like he'd fallen into a nightmare. "It seems that I succeeded."

The stranger Richard had been fucking lifted his hands, like he wanted to prove he wasn't a threat. "Look, man, I didn't know he had a boyfriend. It was just a hook-up."

Gavin ignored him, because taking in the nakedness of the other man just hurt too much. "How could you do this to me, Richard?" he asked.

"It's not my fault," his boyfriend—no, his ex-boyfriend—spat at him. "I only wanted to date you to fuck that ass of yours, but you've been playing hot and cold with me for months."

It was true that Gavin had issues with intimacy, which was why he never managed to hold onto a relationship. But Richard had seemed so nice. He'd understood Gavin's problems with trusting other people and agreed to them taking it slow. "You said you could wait," Gavin said, aware of the tremor in his voice and hating it with a passion. "You said that I could take as much time as I needed."

Richard shrugged. "And you can. Just don't expect me to be as celibate as you. I have needs, you know. If my boyfriend doesn't meet them, I have every right to go elsewhere."

Gavin straightened his back and narrowed his eyes at the other man. The irony was that Gavin had planned to give his virginity to Richard tonight, but that didn't matter anymore. "You know what? You're completely correct. Since it's so obvious this relationship doesn't suit you, it's time for you to go elsewhere. Now start packing."

For a few seconds, Richard gaped at him. "You can't be serious. You can't kick me out. I don't have anywhere to go."

"Try your lover there. Maybe he can give you a hand since you two seemed so very close."

The stranger just scoffed. "I was just in it for the sex. If I'd known about the whole… home-wrecker part, I never would have bothered."

He was already pulling his jeans on and gathering the rest of his stuff. Gavin watched him go, distantly wondering where Richard had even picked him up.

Once the door to the apartment shut behind the stranger, Gavin turned toward his former boyfriend again. "Well? Why are you staring at me? Grab your stuff and hurry along. I don't have all day."

With an angry huff, Richard started tossing clothing and other personal belongings into his duffle bag. In a way, it hurt, because since Richard had moved in with Gavin, Gavin had truly felt things were falling into place. Apparently, he'd been blinding himself to the obvious, because now that he'd gotten this eye-opener, he guessed this couldn't have been the first time Richard had cheated on him.

&
nbsp; Finally, after what seemed like forever, Richard finished his packing and pushed past Gavin. Their shoulders brushed as Richard walked by, and Gavin's body—the treacherous little bastard—responded to it. Gavin reminded himself that Richard was an asshole who didn't deserve his arousal, and saw Richard to the door, just because he wanted to watch the other man walk out of his life.

  "Your key," he demanded.

Gritting his teeth, Richard retrieved his key from his pocket and tossed it to Gavin. As he stepped out into the corridor, though, he threw one last look over his shoulder. "Good luck finding someone who can deal with your drama. No one is ever going to want to put up with you, Gavin. You're just a frigid, crazy little bitch, and you'll be alone for the rest of your life."

With that parting shot, Richard left. Gavin closed the door behind him and leaned against the wood. For a few seconds, he couldn't even breathe. Richard's poison had struck him far harder than Gavin would have liked to admit. All of his boyfriends had left him for this exact reason. At this rate, he'd end up an old queen, mourning his lost youth while he struggled to earn enough to feed ten cats.

Gavin slid to the floor and buried his face in his hands. Why was it that he could never be happy? Had he been a horrible person in a past life? Had he wronged someone without even realizing it? It certainly seemed the case. Either that, or the universe had decided to have fun at his expense.

He was snapped out of his trance of self-pity by the sound of his ringtone. Recognizing the personalized notes, Gavin retrieved his cellphone from his pocket and accepted the call.

"Hey, Jessie," he greeted his best friend.

"Christ, Gav," Jessie began without preamble, "I don't know how you do it with these kids. I tried to get them to listen to what I wanted to say about their future careers, but they just stared at me with blank eyes."

"It's not your fault," Gavin replied, wiping his eyes. "It's sometimes hard to reach them, with all the Facebooking, and the drugs, and so many insecurities."

Sometimes, Gavin thought he did a great job as a guidance councilor because he empathized with those very same insecurities and, in a way, shared them. Highschool kids needed an ear and a shoulder to cry on more than they even realized, and Gavin truly wanted to give them the help he'd rarely found. Maybe he did deserve Richard's rejection, because he never should have left his duties to Jessie, not even for a few hours.

"Sorry, Jess. I'll talk to each of them tomorrow. Thanks for handling this meeting for me."

His friend must have realized something wasn't right, not that it surprised Gavin. "What's wrong, Gav? What happened?"

"I broke up with Richard." Gavin sniffed. "He was cheating on me with some guy, fucking him in our bed."

"Oh, honey. I don't even know what to say. I always thought he was no good for you, but that's horrible even for him."

Gavin wiped his eyes and stared at the ceiling. "You were right. God, Jess. I just… I can't believe this is happening."

"He was a good for nothing asshole and you're better off without him. I know this doesn't really help, but at one point, I kind of suspected that he was only with you because he couldn't afford a place of his own."

Gavin winced, the truth of Jessie's words striking at the very core of his insecurities. "You're right. It doesn't help. He… He told me that I was a frigid, crazy bitch."

Jessie snarled in obvious anger. "That bastard. I'm going to track him down and castrate him with a tea spoon. Don't even think for a moment that he's right. You're just waiting for the right guy, and that's perfectly okay."

"I was going to sleep with him," Gavin confessed. "Tonight. I was kind of embarrassed about the whole thing, and that's why I didn't tell you."

Not to mention that he was aware Jessie couldn't stand Richard, and that conversation wouldn't have gone over well. "I suppose you were lucky you didn't," Jessie said with a sad sigh. "You'd have just regretted it after that. Just ignore him. You'll find someone else, a nice guy who can give you everything you want."

Jessie might have a point, but Mr. Right didn't seem to be very inclined to show up in Gavin's life. Then again, at this rate, Gavin would probably just push every single interested man away.

"In hindsight, I suppose I can't even blame Richard for cheating on me," he told Jessie. "Heck, I couldn't even try to give him a blowjob without panicking."

"Then he should have come out and told you he wasn't happy with waiting," Jessie replied. "Don't make excuses for him. He doesn't deserve your body or your heart, especially not after what he said and did."

Right. Richard had called him frigid, and had done so right after he'd fucked a stranger in the bed Gavin had hoped to share with him. Something angry and rebellious stirred inside him at the thought. "You know what? I'm going to prove to Richard I'm not frigid. I'm going to find the first man I'm attracted to and have him fuck me into the mattress."

Jessie gasped. "Hon, don't do anything stupid. You don't have anything to prove, to Richard, or anyone else. You'll regret it in the morning, you know you will. What do you always tell your kids? Don't make any decisions that might come back to bite you in the ass."

"I don't think I've ever used that phrasing with any of the students who came to me," Gavin joked. "Seriously, though, I have to face this, Jess. Maybe Richard had a point. I can never be in a healthy relationship as long as I don't get over my issues."

"And you think a one-night stand will solve what years of therapy didn't? Gav, it's not the sex that's the problem, and you know it."

Yes, Gavin did know, and if one of his students had come to him with a such a hare-brained idea, he would quickly pointed out all the fallacies in the logic. Hell, teens these days always saw their virginity as something to get rid of as soon as possible. But even if he intellectually realized all this, even if the professional inside him berated him just for considering it, Gavin couldn't help but feel this was something he needed to do.

"Look, I'm coming over," Jessie said. "We'll order take out, and watch a movie. Things will look better in the morning."

Yes, they would. Jessie always made him feel better. His always-a-silver-lining outlook on life never ceased to encourage Gavin. But it would be too easy to rely on Jessie again. He would just fall into his regular, comforting routine, tell himself everything would be all right and have nightmares about eternal solitude.

Even if he realized he'd probably hurt his friend by this, Gavin said, "Don't. I'm going out tonight. I'll face my fears, once and for all."

Jessie tried to protest, but Gavin hung up the phone. He'd already made the decision. Something had to change in his life if he was going to push past today's events and grow into more. If he had no other way to do it, he might as well try to lose his virginity.

  Chapter Two

Saul was hunting. As a natural predator, it had always been something he enjoyed. Of course, tonight, he'd left behind his regular hunting grounds, since it was a different prey that he sought.

He scanned the crowd in the night club with interest, sniffing the air and taking in the scent of sweat and lust emanating off the writhing bodies on the dance floor. The full moon had brought out a lot of his kind, but only a handful were mingling with the humans, most of them preferring the company of other werewolves. But humans appealed to Saul in that one-night stand kind of way. They weren't mate material, but as willing holes went, they certainly did the trick. Most of the time.

Saul huffed in displeasure and reached for his whisky to hide his grimace. There were several guys in the club whom he'd slept with before. They caught his eye and grinned invitingly, but they didn't stir any real interest. They were easy prey, and even the satisfying fucks didn't particularly draw him to a repeat performance.

"Nothing to your liking tonight?" the bartender asked him with a smirk.

Saul just shrugged. "Sometimes, it pays to wait. I'm on the prowl."

"Well, I get off at two," the bartender offered. "Maybe you and I can meet up, have some fun?"

&
nbsp; The idea wasn't bad. The bartender's scantily clad body appealed to Saul, his exposed muscles making Saul's dick stir in his tight leather pants. Besides, on the night of the full moon, Saul didn't have a lot of patience. Saul smiled back. "Maybe."

There were still a good couple of hours until the bartender's—what was his name again?—shift ended, so Saul decided he might as well dance for a while. He finished his drink and paid, leaving behind a hefty tip. He was just about to head toward the dance floor when something—the strong instinct that came with being a born Alpha wolf—froze him in his tracks. He scanned the crowd again, not sure himself as to what he expected to find.

His answer came when his gaze fixed on the club entrance. A young blond human shyly entered the club and stopped, hesitating before he could actually venture into the depths of the establishment. In spite of the distance, Saul's advanced senses took in the slender body of the new arrival with ease. The clothes he wore—a simple, tight-fitting black tee, and a pair of black jeans—weren't exactly designed for seduction, but they did point out the lines of his body nicely. Saul's hands were already itching to slide underneath the material of those garments and just touch.

Someone else came in from behind the human and ushered him along with more violence than enthusiasm. The little morsel stumbled and Saul lost track of him as the human disappeared into the crowd on the dance floor.

Saul was already in motion, making his way through the throng of swaying, intoxicated people in search of his prize. He half-expected someone else to snatch the human off before Saul could reach him, but it didn't happen. In fact, Saul ran into the young blond just as his new prey was getting up and attempting not to be squashed.

Saul grabbed the human's hand, causing the blond to tense and try to pull away. "It's okay," Saul told him. "I'm just going to get you out of this crowd."
