Live for today, love in the now and cherish tomorrow.
In Memory of Sister Mary Catherine.
As the six of them left the building, they knew they did what was meant to be done. It wasn’t out of obligation, but out of the need to give back to those who hurt the most.
Greyson Croft safely tucked his wife into their vehicle and waved as he drove them home. He planned on curling up with her and making more memories to start the new year.
Curtis Briggs linked his arm through his ex-girlfriend’s and offered to share popcorn with her as they caught the new slasher flick at the movies. Sometimes, loving a friend was just as good as caring for a partner.
Paris Archer watched them leave, and dropped his arm over Tess’s shoulder as they walked towards their car. She had made the last few day lots of fun, as she tried to teach him how to use a hammer the right way.
She stared up at the sky and took in the stars. “It’s gorgeous out tonight, Paris,” she said, enjoying the way he felt against her side. There was peace and contentment while she was with him.
His heart thudded, because he knew what he needed to do. “Tess?” he asked, getting her attention.
When she turned to face him, he smiled warmly at her. “Yes, Paris?”
“Move in with me.”
It came out of the blue.
“What?”
“Get rid of your place and stay with me. I want you to live with me.”
“Are you serious?” she asked, taken completely off guard. Here was the man who had to dwell on which tie to wear for at least ten minutes before they left for work.
“I’m very serious.” In fact, it took no thought and he just went with his gut.
She didn't know what to say to him.
“Tessa?”
For the first time when it came to him, she was completely speechless.
“Well, I…”
Meanwhile….
He watched them standing around the body.
It was all working out as he planned. This was the way his revenge would begin. It started with the dead man on the ground, and would culminate with the next to fall.
If they only knew that he had been studying them.
Watching each one.
Weighing his opportunities.
They would be afraid.
Now began the ultimate revenge. He was going to take them apart, one by one, until there was satisfaction for the fallen.
In life, they all had to pay for their crimes, and the people in that field were no exception.
The FBI may have a long reach, but they couldn’t stop everyone, especially someone hell-bent on retribution. It may be years in the making, but now, it was time.
Lowering his weapon, he stared through the sight at the men in blue jackets emblazoned with the FBI lettering. He was grateful they wore it. This made it easy to not kill someone who was innocent.
Like the coroner.
A few technicians.
Or even the cops on the scene.
For now, the man behind the rifle had one prey in mind, and he wondered when he killed him, if he would bleed the FBI colors of blue and gold.
Or would his copper scented blood flow just like everyone else’s?
It was time to find out.
Staring down the rifle, he saw the big boss, and his face didn't look happy. Well, it was about to go from bad to worse.
Well, for the Feds, anyway.
For him, he was about to feel a whole hell of a lot better.
When it came down to it, there would be revenge, since the FBI never gave a damn about destroying lives.
They left carnage and destruction where there should be healing and assistance.
Placing his finger on the trigger, he prepared himself.
It would be one shot to the head.
Once more, he scanned the throng of Feds and found his target. The face was unforgettable, because he saw it every night in his sleep.
Now, he could vanquish the nightmare.
Holding his breath, he readied himself. When his hand went steady, he knew the time was right.
Pulling the trigger was easy. Watching the bullet hit its mark was gratifying. For that brief second, he watched the man fall, his head exploding in a ghastly spray of brains, gore, and flesh. As he tumbled, the remaining Feds dropped to the ground, reaching for their guns.
Yeah, it wouldn’t matter.
He would be gone by the time they got there.
Leaving one thing behind, he gathered his gun and case as he hustled through the trees to his truck.
Now it had officially begun.
By the end, vengeance would be his, and the dead man wouldn’t be the only thing covered in blood.
