I lay a hand on his chest. “I say count me in.”
He exhales a breath I didn’t realize he was holding in.
I smile. “Marrying you once will be a dream come true.”
“And after that?” he asks.
“I’ll leave it up to you,” I say. “After all, you know I love it when you take control.”
He smiles at me. “Thanks for the vote of confidence right before I go ring shopping.”
I raise my eyebrows. “Do you want me to come?”
“Absolutely not,” he says. “I already have the perfect ring picked out.”
“You do?”
“Of course,” he says.
“Since when?”
“Since November fifteenth last year.”
“Wow. That’s specific. What happened that day?”
“That was the day after you first tried Madame Wu’s—”
“Oh yeah.”
“And I realized I wanted to be a part of your happily ever after.”
I lift my hand to the side of his face. “I remember wanting that, too.”
He leans over and kisses me then, and it’s only in that moment that I realize I’m already living my happily ever after.
All because I took a chance and said yes to a handsome stranger.

Ps- About my inspiration for this book…
A while back, one of my best friends- who happens to be a psychologist- got invited to a polyamory party by one of her lesbian coworkers. She didn't go, but when she declined the invitation, she ended her reply by saying, "this is not a forever no."
How great is that?! What a legend.
Anyway, after she told me about this happening, I couldn't get the idea of it out of my head.
And once I got over the hurt that I've never been invited to such a party, I realized that I could still imagine going to one (which I would probably enjoy a whole lot more anyway... or so I'm resigned to telling myself).
Long story short, that's where the idea for this book came from.
And that part at the end about going for the Most Marriage Vow Renewals? I actually know a couple who are going for it.
They’ve renewed their vows around sixty times last I checked (which means they have a long way to go to break the record, but they show no signs of slowing down).
Naturally, when I discovered this, I thought it was ridiculously romantic. So there you have it.
