It would be hours before Noah awakened. At first I thought I had done something wrong. After all, I had never turned any one before. Marcus was always the one who took charge; he never allowed me to turn a human before. Even as an immortal I was completely controlled by a man who was supposed to guide me.
Well, that part of my life was gone. I was no longer weak and I was the leader of this coven. There would be no human, Hunter, or vampire that could stand in my way now.
I looked at Noah lying on the white satin sheets of my bed. There he was, bitten. Bitten by me. I did the one thing I swore I would never do to him. He looked so frail, so weak. He didn't look like the strong man I knew him to be. I scanned the room as I sat on the chair near the wall and waited for him to wake up.
I was so different from the others. While my sisters decorated their rooms in black and dark red, I had chosen mostly white furniture and linens. It was also brightly lit. This room was my safe haven. A place that I could go to and believe my life was normal. I'd pretend I was human again, close my eyes, and have the bright light hit my face as though I was sunbathing at the beach.
I breathed in deeply and sighed. What a blind fool I'd been. How could I possible think everything was how it used to be. Now, with Noah being a vampire, it would only complicate things further.
A few hours later Noah began to stir and I rushed to his side. I slowly ran my fingers over his hand. He moaned and squeezed his eyes shut even tighter as he pressed the tips of his fingers into the sockets. "Wh...what happened?"
He shifted himself to sit up straight, but he was still unsteady. I placed a pillow behind his back and gently sat him back. "You don't remember anything?" In my experience of seeing many humans becoming immortal I knew his loss of memory was normal. "Do you know who I am?"
"I could never forget my dark angel. There's nothing on this earth that could take the memory of you from me. What I meant was what happened after we had sex. We did have sex right? Please don't tell me that the best orgasm I have ever experienced in my life was a dream."
"Well, technically we only had oral sex, but no, you weren't dreaming."
"Wait, I do remember, you .." He coughed. "My throat is so dry Caressa. Can you get me some water please?"
"Water isn't going to help your throat Noah. What you need is..."
Noah lunged at me and grabbed my throat. He squeezed it tight as he spoke on a growl, his new onyx vampire eyes glared at me. "Get me the fucking water or I'll snap your neck with my bare hands."
I jumped back, shocked at his reaction from me denying his request. I was going to tell him what he needed was blood. My blood, his maker’s blood, which I would have been more than happy to give him if he had only given me the chance. But I couldn't say anything with his hand crushing my windpipe. He was no longer the weak human who I could overpower. He was now a vampire. A very strong one. Even though I was hundreds of years older than Noah, nothing beat the strength of a brand new vampire. It would take some time for him to be able to control the rage coursing through his veins. This extreme source of power would diminish over the next few weeks, but now it had come to the surface full force.
Even though I couldn't feel physical pain it still broke my heart to hear the anger in his voice. I knew then turning Noah was the wrong thing to do. Only now it was too late. I would have to suffer the consequences of my horrible decision. The only thing I could do was try to reason with him. "Noah please stop. This isn't you. Please."
Noah closed his eyes shut for a moment then shook his head. He loosened his grip on my neck and peered down at his hands as if they didn't belong to him. He tried getting off the bed, but his legs got tangled in the sheets and he fell to the floor. I watched as he scrambled to his feet and ran towards the open bathroom door.
I had to muffle a laugh at the display. One thing was for sure, vampirism didn't change every characteristic of your former self. It looked like Noah was going to be just as clumsy as when he had been a human. Hopefully he would become more graceful over time. I shook my head at the thought. "Nah."
I heard the running water from the bathroom sink and decided to give him a minute to let it all sink in. A knock at the door made me jump up from the bed and run over to the door. I had to get rid of whichever of my sisters it was. They couldn't find out what I had done. Not this minute anyway. "Who is it?"
"Caressa open the damn door. Since when do you ask who it is before opening it?"
It was Gia. Fucking great. The worst person to have come to my doorstep right now. She'd never understand what I did, especially since I have been lecturing her about how careful we have to be when turning a human. And here I was barely knowing Noah and making him one of us without discussing it with the rest of the coven. "Shit.” I cursed under my breath. “I'll be out in a sec. Give me a minute okay?"
"Caressa what are you doing in there? Open this fucking door right now, I mean it. Open it before I break it down."
What could I do? She was going to break the door down if I didn't open it. Sure I installed the strongest wood door I could find, but that still wasn't strong enough to hold up against a vampire. I let out an exasperated breath. "Fine."
Gia walked in right passed me. "What the Hell is your problem? What the Hell are you doing down here? The club opened hours ago, and now it's almost dawn. We need to close up."
"So, what do you need me for? You don't need me to close the club."
"I don't need you. But, your little boyfriend's friend is here looking for him. He said he was supposed to meet him here hours ago and I had told him he was here with you. He said he'd wait and since you said you wouldn't be long I didn't think it would be a problem. He's still here. He said his name was Rhett. He thinks something is wrong because Noah isn't answering his phone calls."
Damn it Noah. He said no one would miss him. "What would you like me to do?"
"Noah needs to go upstairs and show his face before this guy calls the police."
"Don't be ridiculous. Noah is grown man. He can come and go as he pleases. Get rid of him." Just as I was ushering Gia to the door to leave, Noah stepped into the room.
Gia took one look at Noah and hissed a threat in his direction. Noah lunged at Gia and both she and I held Noah back, pinning him against the wall. We struggled to hold him down, but we managed to do so.
Gia turned to face me with her forearm placed over Noah's throat. "Are you fucking crazy? What the Fuck did you do? What have you been telling us? So, it's okay for you to do as you please without consulting us, but it's not okay for us?"
"Now is not the time Gia. What are we going to do do now?"
"Oh, now you're asking for my help, well..."
"Gia!"
"We have to kill him before any of the other finds out."
"I am not killing him!" Not again anyway.
"We can't very well restrain him like this for long and nothing is strong enough to hold him in place except us. We have enough problems with the Hunters trying to kill us without having you making up your own army of soldiers."
Noah stilled a moment and glared directly at me. "Is that why you did this to me? To help you fight against people who are trying to kill you. You fucking bitch!"
I stood there, frozen. I couldn't move. He thought I did this to him just because we needed help fighting the Hunters. He twisted away from us and ran for the door. Gia was right behind him. We all had special powers as vampires. I was the strongest and Gia was the fastest of us all. But, even though she lightning fast, Noah was still way ahead of her. The loud of clank of the emergency back door being opened was what made me finally move from the spot where my feet were cemented. "Gia, the sun!"
But it was too late. I heard Noah's screams, dropped to my knees, and held my head in my hands. Tears streamed down my face. No, it couldn't be. Noah was dead because of me. Maybe this was all a dream. That was it. It was all a horrible nightmare and I would wake up soon.
I heard the door slam shut and the sound of something being
dragged on the concrete floor brought me out of my agony for a brief moment. I lifted my head and wiped my tear soaked face. "Noah!" I rushed over to Gia who was pulling Noah by the shirt he must have put on after going in the bathroom. His bare feet were scraping against the floor.
"I caught up to him in time. He barely got burned. Just enough to have him reel backwards and pass out. I caught him before he hit the ground. Idiot. Doesn't he know the first rule of being a vampire? Rule number one, no sun!"
I bent down to lift Noah's feet and the both of us carried him into my apartment. "He's a new vampire Gia. He doesn't know anything. He can't even control himself right now."
"Uh, even the dumbest of humans know vampires can't go out in the sun. Duh."
"Gia, please. You're not helping right now. "
She stood placing her fists on her hips. "Not helping! Did I not just save your hot boyfriend here from a fiery death?"
I let out a long sigh. "Yes, I'm sorry. But what are we going to do now?" I sat on the hardwood floor next to Noah feet. His skin still sizzled from the exposure to the sun. "I really made a mess of things, didn't I?"
Gia knelt beside me and put her hand on my shoulder. "We'll figure it out."
"What is there to figure out Gia? Not only did I put us all in danger, but it was all for nothing. He hates me. He thinks I did this to him just so he can fight off the Hunters."
Gia spoke on a whisper. "Why did you turn him CeeCee?" I smiled at her nickname for me. She had given it to me a long time ago when we first met. She said Caressa was too formal a name for sisters. We have been in each other’s lives since she was turned not much longer after I had been. Another male vampire in our coven had made her on Marcus' orders. He told him she had seen too much and would have told the original Hunters about us. Hunters were trained from generation to generation and were taught to kill us on sight.
"Isn't it obvious? I love him."
"Love him? You barely know him."
"I know, but there's something different about Noah. He's different. He's not like any man I have ever met before and I doubt anyone else like him exists."
"Wow, that's deep."
I half laughed and half moaned at her timing in making a joke now. "Gia, c'mon, I’m being serious."
She laughed. "I know, I'm sorry. I was just trying to make you feel better."
I leaned my forehead on her shoulder. "What am I going to do Gia? He hates me."
She wrapped her arm around me and helped me up from the floor. "He doesn't hate you. He doesn't know what's going on right now. He'll come around. Now, help me carry his heavy ass to your bed." He needs to rest and heal his burns."
"Thanks Gia."
After we got Noah to bed Gia went up to check on the girls and see if they had closed on time. She also wanted to make sure Noah's friend was gone.
Here I sat again for hours, waiting for him to wake up. I stayed right by his side. I never left him for a second. I had to explain everything to him. I needed him to understand that I didn't turn him because of the reasons he thought. I loved him. He meant everything to me. He was my salvation, my future, and most importantly, he was my heart.
Noah awoke with a moan. His skin had completely healed while he slept and I had taken off his burnt pants. He sat up and stared at me as I sat in the chair across the room. We watched each other for what seemed like forever before he finally spoke first. "Caressa, I'm so sorry."
"Do you remember what happened?"
"Not until I saw the look on your face right now." He rose from the bed and walked over me. He knelt between my legs and took my hands in his. He kissed each of my palms before squeezing them lightly.
I put my head down, unable to look at him in the eyes. His onyx eyes bored into my soul and the words he spat at me earlier broke my heart. "Noah...I didn't turn you to..."
He lifted my chin with his finger and slid his thumb over my lips. "Shhh. I know. I'm so sorry I said those things to you. I didn't know what I was saying, or what I was doing. I promise to do my best to control my anger, but I'm going to need your help."
"You never have to go through anything alone again. The girls and I are your family now. We take care of each other. That's what we do."
He closed the space between us. He captured my face in his hands, then placed a gentle kiss on my forehead. He nipped my lower lip with his new vampire fangs. "I will never let anyone hurt you ever again Caressa. I promise to love you for all eternity my dark angel."
He was my savior. My light in the darkness. He was the beacon I would always count on to bring me back home when I floated too far away. That's what he was to me. My home. My safe haven. He was the love of my life before he even existed and in my heart I knew he always would be. We had been born centuries apart and I promised myself that we would make up for all the lost time. "I love you Noah."
Epilogue
"Noah, please don't stop!"
He slammed his hard cock into me with such force that we splintered the wooden headboard into pieces. Again.
He smiled against my lips. "I don't plan to."
His fangs descended into his mouth as he grazed my shoulder up to the curve of my neck. He bit down breaking the skin and fed from me as he pumped into me over and over, harder and faster until we both came. When he lifted his head to look into my eyes, I was at a loss for words. The way my blood coated his bottom lip always sent a bolt of desire between my thighs. I always wanted more of him. I never had enough.
The feel of him inside me was something I would never tire of. I only craved it more and more with each passing day. I had been worried before I turned him that he'd want to be with the other women of the coven like all the other male vampires, but there was only one woman that mattered in his eyes...me.
The last few months had been a real challenge for Noah and I. He had to learn what being a true vampire was like. It was nothing like that horror movie bullshit on television. I also had to teach him about the Hunters. The skilled humans trained for the sole purpose of killing our kind.
Noah was a focused student and an even more engaging lover. He was unlike any other male vampire I had come across. Most were demanding, controlling, and barbaric. But not Noah. He knew when to use his power and when to be gentle. Especially with me. He was special. I could tell he was from the moment he walked into my life and I would do everything in my power to keep him happy.
Before opening the club Noah and I sat at one of the booths in the back talking over whether or not we should expand the club. It was a small underground space and was quickly becoming the new hot spot in the city. Which was both a good thing and a bad thing. On one hand we were making so much money, not that we really needed it, because we already had enough of it. But that meant the club was popular and more people would be coming every day. On the other hand, we were becoming popular, meaning we no longer held a low key club. More Hunters would surely come, especially after the incident with Noah and the last Hunter who visited the club.
Noah's friend Rhett spent a lot of time here at the club lately as well. He never questioned Noah about why they never played basketball or any of the other sports they used to. His extra time here may also have had something to do with his infatuation with Gia. He fawned over her constantly. She pretended to hate him, but we all knew otherwise. She hadn't allowed herself to love again. I think in time she’d open her heart to the one person who would never give up on her, just like I did.
After the club had closed for the night, Noah came behind me and held me close. He whispered in my ear. "I thought my sex drive was supposed to increase."
I turned my head to meet his dark hooded eyes, looking at him in disbelief. "Why? Are you saying it hasn't?"
He gave me one of those heart stopping smiles that I grew to love so much. "Oh, it definitely has, but only when I'm near you. Care to join me downstairs?"
We both took off running toward our apartment. Noah always wanted to compete with me over who was the most powerful and who was the
fastest. As we rounded the corner of the hallway I sped up even more. I crashed through the front door with Noah barreling into me as we fell to the floor laughing. He may be a fast vampire, but I was definitely faster.
A Love for Somnus
Prologue
Somnus looked over at Victoria. He had never seen a more beautiful creature. The Goddess’ on Mount Olympus paled in the light of Victoria’s beauty. He ran his fingers through her long jet black hair. Her crystal blue eyes gazed up at him with intent. He kissed her gently on her soft full lips and she smiled against his mouth. The joy he felt in his heart was immeasurable.
Today was a special day. One they had been looking forward to for a long time. Tonight they would make love and she would become his for all eternity. His soul mate. The one person he would be able to share his deepest feelings with. And the one person who would always be there for him.
Somnus feared for Victoria for many reasons. His main concern, she was a human. A mortal. Being in love with a human was looked down upon on Mount Olympus. Humans caused too much trouble, they were too frail according to the elder Gods. Any God that was seen with a human was severely punished.
Somnus was in deep trouble. He not only talked to a human, but he fell madly in love with one. He hid their relationship from Jupiter, the king of the Gods. If Jupiter found out about the love he shared with Victoria, he would no doubt suffer severe consequences.
Victoria's eyebrows furrowed. "Somnus, what's troubling you?"
He sighed heavily. He did not want to worry her. "Nothing my love."
"Don't lie to me. I can see sadness written all over your face."
"I'm worried about us. What if you change your mind and don't want to be with me forever? Or even worse, what if Jupiter finds out and banishes me to the Underworld for all eternity. I wouldn't be able to live without you. The sorrow in my heart would be too great."
