After 13 seconds under water, Peter could feel the pressure in his lungs. He wanted to exhale. Just exhale. Peter forced himself to resist this urge. Because whoever exhaled also had to inhale. After 41 seconds under water, Peter’s consciousness began to fade away. His entire body was screaming from pain and fear and nearly all the muscles in his body were burning. Peter stopped thinking and he stopped searching for Kelly; he stopped being. All he wanted was to exhale.
