Harriet Walsh 01: Peace Force Page 19

by Simon Haynes

Harriet turned to Alice. "Put the cuffs on him before I destroy the whole damn ship."

"Yes sir," said Alice smartly, and she ran to Canitt.

"Stay out of my firing line," advised Harriet. "This gun might go off unexpectedly. You know, like a stray hand-grenade."

Canitt slumped at that, and he didn't move as Alice pulled his hands behind his back, cuffing him securely. Then she hauled him to his feet, none too gently.

Harriet held the gun on him with one hand, reaching into her Peace Force jacket with the other. She pulled out a folded junk food leaflet, shook it out and turned it over to read the print on the back. "Melvin Canitt, I arrest you by authority of the Peace Force. Anything you say is pointless."

She crumpled the flyer and tossed it aside. "Back to the brig, Alice. He can stew there until Bernie arranges for pickup."

"What about the rest of them?" asked Alice, gesturing towards the back of the ship.

Harriet raised the pistol and shot the other engine out. "Guess they can wait here," she said calmly. "Come on, get him moving. I don't want to miss the flight home."

  Epilogue

Is it safe at the beach?

A heavily-armed officer has been seen patrolling the local beach recently, although there have been no reports of disturbances in the area.

Beach-goers complained of sand thrown into their faces by the Peace Force cruiser's engines, but when the officer in question was confronted she claimed to be investigating a case of neglect.

Since no such case has been reported, what exactly are the Peace Force doing at the beach?

If anyone has any leads that might cast light on the mystery, they may contact this publication at the usual address.

What's next in the Harriet Walsh series?

  Harriet Walsh 2: Alpha Minor

The Peace Force has a new recruit, and she's driving everyone crazy. From disobeying orders to handling unauthorised cases, nothing is off-limits.

Worse, Harriet Walsh is forced to team up with the newbie, because the recruit's shady past has just caught up with her.

Meanwhile, a dignitary wants to complain about rogue officers working out of the station. She insists on meeting the station's commanding officer … and they don't have one.

All up, it's another typical day in the Peace Force!
