Sheila mentioned him often, and they were scheduled to go out on their first date the following week. “Toni, I hope things work out with me and that good looking vet. I’m not getting any younger, you know.”
Toni grinned, took another sip of ginger ale. “Well, you know how Jason is always reminding me that God is in control. If I had not met Jason and moved to Chicago, sold my building, then you probably never would’ve met that guy.”
The music started, and Toni’s eyes welled with tears of joy.
Sheila dabbed the moisture away. “Don’t cry. I don’t want your mascara to mess up.”
When Toni walked down the aisle, she didn’t look at the five-hundred guests. She barely eyed Sheila, or Trina, who was her bridesmaid, or Antoine, who was their junior groomsman. Her eyes were focused only on Jason. He looked so handsome in his cream-colored tuxedo, his bald head shining under the bright sunlight that splashed through the stained glass windows of the church.
She sighed when she approached him, and he took her hands. Yes, accepting the Lord was the most important decision she’d ever made in her life. And marrying Jason Matthews filled her with exquisite wonder and delight. What a joy her life would be.
