Beginning of the New Beginning Vol 3 Page 16

“Excuse me. Sir?” rumbled a deep-bass voice from the back seat.

“Yes?" Jeff replied, turning back. He saw the rear window was rolled down and a man’s face and shoulders filled the opening.

"Would it be possible to stay here tonight? We haven't had a good night's sleep in days, and we’re out of food.”

"We don't normally let strangers in without vetting them first.”

The back door opened, and the largest man Jeff had ever seen climbed out. He thought maybe the truck had just given birth. The man stood to his full height, towering over Jeff, and Jeff wasn't a short man by any means. Jeff took note of the massive revolver in the big man's shoulder holster.

"We just want to stay one night, and then we'll be on our way," he said with a smile.

Jeff looked over at the driver, and it struck him as odd how, suddenly, the driver had a Hollywood smile plastered on his face, like it had been rehearsed in front of a mirror hundreds of times. Jeff's gut feeling was telling him that letting them stay was not a good idea.

"That there is...Bob and his brother Harvey," he said, holding his right hand up towards his two companions in the front seat. Then he stuck out his massive paw in Jeff's direction.

  "My name's Gary Michelson."
