  “Do it,” she urged. He nodded as they let the comfortable silence settle in the room between them.

  For the first time in her life, Amelia felt optimistic about the future. She thought she might have a shot at having the happy life she had always thought was just a myth. Perhaps she had caught the enthusiasm off the detective like a contagious disease. And perhaps not all human beings were liars.
