  Because he was nominally under the orders of Grahame who no longer there he and his ship were appropriated by the Admiral in command of the Navy to act as convoy escort up and down the eastern side of America without returning home. Finally he received orders from the Admiralty to return home 'with all dispatch.' By the time he reaches England four years have passed since leaving home.

  We learn no more until the events used for the writing of the next novel ' The French Invasion' came to light.
