He’d told her that he realized his time in the small town in the Sierra Nevadas, all the way across the country from his family and childhood home, was like a vacation from reality. That he’d never wanted to come home until he met Chloe, and she became his home.
Chloe had had an immediate flash of what the ceremony would look like, and it sprang entirely from her practical, no-nonsense side. She’d envisioned something small and intimate. Simple.
Caitlyn as her maid of honor. Jake as Chris’s best man. The courthouse. Maybe even on a weekday. His family could drive in from DC. Her parents could come watch her get married and celebrate the fulfillment of their dream for her (even if Chris—now a proud member of the Baltimore Fire Department—wasn’t, and never would be, a dentist).
The main point? No fuss, no muss.
That plan had lasted until the moment she’d told Caitlyn about it, right here in the pub after work one night. Caitlyn’s cousin had overheard, and then the aunts and uncles had gotten involved, and before she knew it, it was a big event. Well...big by her standards, at any rate. Caitlyn assured her that, by Collins standards, this was downright tame.
But when she’d told Chris it was perfect, she was telling the truth. It was a dream come true, in fact.
She was standing here with her husband, the man she loved more than life, surrounded by friends who were more like family, and an actual family who had adopted her as if she were one of their own.
Life was good.
Life was so, so good.

About the Author
Melanie Shawn is the writing team of sister duo Melanie and Shawna. Originally from Northern California, they both migrated south and now call So Cal their home.
Growing up, Melanie constantly had her head in a book and was always working on short stories, manuscripts, plays and poetry. After graduating magna cum laude from Pepperdine University, she went on to teach grades 2nd through 8th for five years. She now spends her days writing and taking care of her furry baby, a Lhasa Apso named Hercules. In her free time, her favorite activity is to curl up on the couch with that stubborn, funny mutt and binge-watch cable TV shows on DVD (preferably of at least eight seasons in length - a girl's gotta have her standards!).
Shawna always loved romance in any form - movie, song or literary. If it was a love story with a happy ending, Shawna was all about it! She proudly acknowledges that she is a romanceaholic. Her days are jam-packed with writing, being a wife, mom aka referee of two teens, and indulging in her second passion (dance!) as a Zumba instructor. In the little free time she has, she joins Melanie in marathon-watching DVDs of their favorite TV programs.
