“Who the fuck are you? Santa Claus?” Gavin snarled.
The intruder squeaked in terror. Gavin caught a scent. It was urine. He smiled evilly.
“That’s right, motherfucker. You better be scared.”
“What the hell, man! I just wanted to talk to her,” Tim whined.
Gavin shoved the muzzle a little more firmly against the back of Tim’s skull.
“All right, Timmy, let’s go back to the kitchen, slowly. You fuck this up and you won’t live to regret it,” Gavin whispered in an evil growl.
They made their way slowly back to the kitchen. Gavin switched on the lights.
“Put your hands behind your head and get on your knees,” Gavin ordered.
“Jesus! I’ll leave, just don’t shoot,” Tim whined again as he turned to face Gavin.
Gavin aimed his weapon and Tim threw up his hands. “Do what I said. Get on your fucking knees and put your hands in back of your head,” he snarled.
Tim complied this time without question. Gavin retrieved the handcuffs that he carried in the assault pack that went back and forth to work with him every day. Luckily, he stowed the bag next to the kitchen door so it was within easy reach when he left in the morning.
“You fucked up good this time.” Gavin cuffed Tim.
“I just wanted to talk to her!” Tim wailed.
“Breaking and entering and she’s got a restraining order on you. Yup, this might actually mean prison time. You might get a new boyfriend before this is all over with.” Gavin picked up the phone.
Gavin called the station and requested that an officer be sent to the house.
“Amy!” Tim yelled as Gavin ended his call.
Gavin kicked him to the floor and Tim went down, face first. He stepped in the middle of Tim’s back. “You’re getting on my nerves, boy,” he said in a menacing voice.
“I want to talk to Amy!” Tim whined.
Gavin put his knee to Tim’s upper back and pressed, constricting the airflow.
“She doesn’t want to talk to you!” Gavin snarled. Tim was fighting for air as he pressed harder. “Stay the fuck away from Amy! She’s told you and now I’m telling you.” He raised his knee slightly, allowing Tim to take a swallow of precious air.
“Here’s the deal. I don’t play nice with the other kids and I don’t share my toys,” Gavin said as he kneeled once more, pressing harder and feeling the air release from Tim’s lungs. “So stay the fuck out of my sandbox and quit trying to fuck with my favorite plaything. You understand?” he demanded in the same evil growl.
“Gavin?” Amy called from the living room.
“Go back to bed, Amy,” Gavin called.
“What are you doing?” Amy asked, her voice nearing them.
“Pest control. I found a cockroach.” Gavin rose off of Tim.
“What?” Amy exclaimed as she walked into the kitchen.
It was a good thing Gavin had Tim cuffed. Amy looking sleepy, tousled, and totally adorable was a distraction. She quickly came alert when she surveyed the scene.
“Oh my God! Tim! What are you doing here? What’s he doing here?” Amy exclaimed to Gavin.
“Tell him to let me go, Amy!” Tim demanded.
Gavin felt like kicking Tim again. Looking at Amy, he shook his head.
“Go back to bed, honey, please. There’s a squad car on the way,” Gavin said.
Amy complied, turning and leaving the kitchen.
“Fucking fat, frigid bitch!” Tim screamed.
“You know something, I’m beginning to think it’s you, not her,” Gavin said, walking over to the cupboard. He retrieved a glass and served himself some water.
“She is!” Tim screamed.
“No, there ain’t a damn thing wrong with her. But there’s everything wrong with you,” Gavin said, muttering to himself, “frigid! My ass! I know you figured out what happened in front of that fireplace…”
The squad car picked up Tim and the patrolman took a statement from Gavin. By this time everyone in the department knew Amy and Gavin were seeing each other on a pretty regular basis. The patrolman shook his head as he stuffed Tim in the back of the squad car.
“This guy just doesn’t learn. I wonder if he’s got a death wish. G’night, Lieutenant, and Merry Christmas,” the patrolman said.
“Same to you, Roger. Hope you and yours have a good Christmas,” Gavin said.
“Yeah, I stopped by on my lunch hour and helped the wife put all the presents under the tree. I should be home by the time the kids get up in the morning,” the patrolman said with a wide grin.
Gavin smiled and the patrolman took off with Tim. He went back into the house. Amy was sitting on the couch drinking a cup of tea. She looked up at him as he walked toward the couch and lowered himself next to her.
“I heard what you told him,” Amy said.
Gavin leaned his head back, took a deep breath, and released it.
“He gets mad when you tell him things like that. He called me at the library after I filed the restraining order and asked me why I would do you and not him,” Amy said.
“Tell him it’s because he’s a fucking nut job and doesn’t know what to do with a woman,” Gavin retorted. Despite Amy’s mood, she started laughing. Gavin always had a way of putting things in very sharp perspective. He looked at her, clearly annoyed. “The next time he calls you at work, hang up on him. And then call the cops.”
“I did hang up on him.”
“Amy, why didn’t you tell me he was calling you at work? A restraining order means no contact. When he does that crap call me or David.”
“I do hang up when he calls. Usually, he’s very drunk. I don’t think he knows what he’s doing.”
“The hell he doesn’t! You don’t think he thought about what he did tonight?” Gavin demanded, annoyed. Amy said nothing and looked away. “Amy, he’ll end up hurting you, and you’re playing right along with him. Honey, we can’t help you if you don’t help us.”
Amy remained annoyingly silent.
“No contact. Do you understand?” Gavin demanded.
“Yes, Gavin,” Amy said as she placed her cup of tea on the end table.

Amy went to the bedroom and slid between the sheets. Gavin didn’t follow. She took a deep breath. The last thing she wanted to do was ruin Christmas. Every Christmas for the last ten years had been a living hell. She knew she should have called them and told them that Tim was calling her. She thought it was trivial. But Gavin was right. For every inch she gave Tim, he took the proverbial mile. Tonight had been over the top.
Amy heard the TV switch on. Gavin was angry with her. She felt a deep twinge because he was the last person she wanted to disappoint. He had done everything in his power to protect her and now she felt she had violated his trust. It was one more thing Tim seemed to ruin in her life. She lay in bed fighting tears. He just didn’t understand how hard it was to recondition years of abuse.
Amy remembered how she could hardly contain her excitement the entire week. She loved Christmas. She loved everything about it, the traditions, the family, the joy, but mostly she loved sharing with people she loved. She fought the urge to have Gavin open all of his presents tonight. This would be a very special Christmas, and all of the people she would be with she loved and cared for deeply. Amy made up her mind. This holiday, despite Tim’s attempts, would be one of the best yet. She needed to talk to Gavin and take his advice this time on how to handle Tim.

Gavin sat on the couch seething. He wanted nothing more than to go and roar at Amy and demand from her why she was being be so damn stupid. This guy was dangerous. It was a matter of time before Tim would have really hurt or even killed her and she was still making excuses for him. He knew he had hurt her feelings. He thought about the ring he had bought her a couple of days ago. For the first time he had doubts about Amy.
Gavin planned on proposing to her tomorrow morning while they were opening their presents. When
he got the ring, he was sure nothing would ever change his mind about spending the rest of his life with her. He recalled telling Amy he loved her. He had wanted to say that to her for so long. Tonight it slipped. He had been planning on telling her when he placed the ring on her finger. She wasn’t ready to make a future with him because he wasn’t sure she was ready to let go of her past. He wondered what it would take to get it into her head that this guy was a serious risk to her safety.
Gavin was angry and too wired to sleep. He reached for the remote and switched on the TV. After about an hour, he calmed down enough to go back to bed, but he was still angry with her. He got up and pulled back the sheets and slid in. She was sleeping soundly. He lay on his back and stared at the ceiling. This was their first fight, however one-sided it had been.
Gavin turned and looked at Amy. The Christmas lights from outside the house threw a very soft light into the room. Her hair was in her face again. Despite himself he smiled and brushed it back from her face. The effect of touching her was instant. Even in her sleep, Amy could make him forget everything.
Gavin watched Amy as she slept. She looked so young and fragile. Gavin couldn’t help himself and kissed her until she woke up. He pulled her close and explored her with his hands. He felt her reach around him. They had both put clothes on earlier and were still dressed. He took her clothes off and she did the same with him.
Gavin explored Amy like he always did with his mouth. Moving down to that vulnerable belly, he smiled as he nipped around her belly button and heard her sultry moan. Tim knew nothing about her little sweet spot. No one did. It was Gavin’s secret.
Gavin continued his playing and groping and finally rolled over, pulling Amy on top of him. She immediately began rubbing up and down the length of his hard cock with her wet pussy.
“That’s my little hottie,” Gavin whispered as he slipped inside her.
Amy began her rhythmic ride and he encouraged her thrusts, meeting her. Gavin grabbed her hands and pushed her so she impaled onto his shaft, sitting fully on top of him. He was as deep inside her as he could go. He heard her sexy gasp. Her thrusting that she was used to performing on him was impossible in this position. She had to gyrate her hips. The feeling was very intense for both of them. She tried to release her hands and he held her fast. Amy shifted slightly and Gavin heard a very carnal gasp this time. He smiled as she threw back her head. There it is…
“Oh, Gavin!” Amy said in guttural whisper.
Amy’s gyrations became faster as she pushed herself to a climax. He watched her make love to him. This was the sexiest lap dance he had ever witnessed and felt. He felt the first clench of her very wet cunt around him.
“Do you like that, baby?” Gavin asked.
“Gavin!” Amy panted as her clenching pussy tightened around him.
Gavin maintained his control. He released Amy’s hands and she fell forward onto his chest. She was still moaning. He kissed her as he pulled her close and rolled her over onto her back. She was still panting from her intense orgasm. He knelt in between her legs and rubbed his hard shaft against her swollen slit. She shook with the aftershock of the sensation of his cock touching her sensitive clit. He entered her once more.
Gavin put his arms under Amy’s knees, forcing her legs onto his shoulders as he plunged into her. His thrusts became more demanding, and she started her seductive moans again. He felt her clench a second time. She was having another climax. He thrust harder and felt her spasm under him. He started his own torrid release as he shoved inside her and stayed there. He stroked in and out a couple more times until he was complete. He released her legs and lowered himself to her. Gavin nibbled Amy’s throat and she purred. He moved to her lips.
“I really do love you,” Gavin whispered.
“You’ve said that a couple of times tonight.” Amy smiled
Gavin nibbled Amy’s bottom lip. “I know. The first time it slipped.”
“Did it?” Amy kissed his throat.
Gavin slid off of her and pulled her to face him. Gavin suddenly felt vulnerable as he lay staring at Amy. He had said those words to one other woman and it had ended in disaster.
“Amy…” Gavin said, cupping her face.
“We really haven’t been together that long.”
Gavin wanted to say something but couldn’t find the words. Amy and Gavin just lay looking at each other.
“Are you still angry with me?” Amy asked.
“Yes,” Gavin confirmed. Amy looked very sad and Gavin melted. “Maybe. A little.”
“I love you, too, Gavin. I’ve been afraid to say it. I thought I would scare you. You really make me feel special.”
“You are special, and you do scare me.” Gavin kissed her.
“I do?” Amy asked with a frown.
“Yes, you do. I’ve never felt this way. It makes me feel a little helpless. For me that’s very uncomfortable.”
“I won’t hurt you. I know what that’s like,” Amy whispered tenderly.
“You’re the only one that can hurt me. You bring me to my knees every time you just giggle.” Gavin touched the tip of her nose.
Amy snuggled closer and Gavin lay holding her. He felt her relax and start the slow, rhythmic breathing of sleep. He thought about their conversation. It was true, all of it. He had given her tremendous power with his trust, more than any other human being in his life. Even the people that sent him out to potentially die every day didn’t have the kind of power she had over him. He could feel his own eyes get heavy and he drifted off to sleep.
Gavin awoke what seemed like a short time later. He could smell bacon and coffee. Without opening his eyes, he reached for Amy and found she was gone. He opened his eyes and squinted into the bright sunlight. He lifted his head and looked at the clock on the nightstand. It was eight thirty in the morning! She was cooking breakfast. He got up gradually and semi-dressed. He walked into the living room and found her sitting on the couch, sipping her coffee. He dropped down next to her.
“Why didn’t you wake me up?” Gavin asked as he ran his hand over her thigh.
“You were dead asleep.” Amy smiled.
“I guess so. I’m still tired. I must’ve slept too long,” Gavin said, leaning his head back on the couch.
“Are you ready to open your presents?” Amy asked.
Gavin smiled and looked under the tree, the stack of presents had doubled from last night. Amy looked so happy and Gavin felt a stab of guilt. Should I go and get the ring?
“Amy, honey, we need to talk about what happened last night.”

“Thanks, Joe. Have a Merry Christmas.” David hung up the phone.
The desk sergeant had called him this morning to tell him about Tim’s arrest last night at Amy’s house. Everything was fine and no one was hurt. Gavin had been there and took care of everything. Lieutenant Walsh had called for a squad car at about two thirty this morning. David’s jaw had tightened when he heard that one.
“What happened? Don’t tell me you have to go into work today,” Irene said.
“No. I don’t have to go in,” David said, turning his dark expression to his wife.
“David? What’s wrong?” Irene asked cautiously.
“Tim broke into Amy’s house last night. At two thirty in the morning.”
“Oh my God! Is she okay? Did the police get there in time?” Irene rushed to pick the phone.
“The damn police were there all night!” David shouted.
“I thought you said he tried to break in at two thirty in the morning?” Irene asked, slightly confused.
“Yeah, the fucking police were there before Tim got there and stayed after Tim left. This is your fault, Irene. It’s your fault she’s mixed up with him,” David said harshly as he turned on Irene.
“David, will you calm down and tell me what happened?” Irene asked as if she were talking to one of her hysterical teenagers.
“Gavin Walsh! He was there when Tim broke into the house,” Dav
id exclaimed.
Irene turned and left the room. This subject had been a bone of contention between her and her husband for the last month. David followed her out of the room. “Don’t walk out on me! He’s sleeping with her! You know how bad he could mess her up!” he exclaimed, enraged.
“David, let her go. I know that you and I look at her and treat her like she was ours…” Irene said calmly.
“She is ours! She’s been with us since she was ten! We raised her, remember? We have to protect her! What the hell is wrong with you? Damn it, Irene, I didn’t like Tim and I don’t like this guy, either. I didn’t say anything about Tim. But I’ll be damned if I’ll keep my mouth shut this time! I can’t watch her fall apart again,” David said, turning away.
“I know you like this man and have a huge amount of respect for him!” Irene countered angrily.
“Not for Amy! He’s not right for her!”
“David, honey, no one ever will be—”
“That bastard is screwing her and he hasn’t even known her two months!”
“David! She’s a grown woman! It takes two to play, damn it! And Amy doesn’t look like she’s running the other way!” Irene had to shout in order to be heard. In a calmer voice she continued, “Amy needs to have a normal, adult relationship with a man. She needs to understand the relationship she had with Tim wasn’t how two people who really care about each other should be.”
“Not that man! After a month! Do you think he loves her?” David screamed back.
“Yes, I do!” Irene shouted back. “I think he fell in love with her the minute he saw her! Damn it, David! Everyone but you sees it! It’s not your relationship! It’s theirs! Leave them the hell alone!”
“Irene…” David started as he tried to calm himself. “This guy doesn’t understand love! He’s not like a lawyer or a doctor or even a fucking plumber. This guy killed people on a regular basis for the better part of his adult life. He’s not a normal guy!”
“He’s crazy about her, David! And she’s just as crazy about him. All you have to do is see them together! Open your eyes! She laughs when she’s around him. How many times did you even see her smile when she was with Tim? Do you remember when we saw them at the restaurant? I haven’t seen Amy like that since before she left for college. They’ve talked. She’s told me. Let her be happy, damn it!”
