Kit sighs, shaking his head. “Don’t laugh, but... What if what Litha says is true? Our prophecy was spoken eighteen years ago, so there could easily have been a prophecy already there about the war or the witch queen helping the fae king with the anti-shifting things. What if they were working together to make the anti-power stuff not to stop the shifting or whatever, but as a way against the stuff the fae developed? What if it does the opposite thing of what we expect it to do?” He looks at Litha. “Because it’s an interesting coincidence that the queen’s blood was the only thing that let the kid dragon shift. What if that’s the way out? What if we’re the last step of something they put into action over a hundred years ago?”
Rune’s laugh rumbles. “That’s one hell of a long-game to play.”
But it would be worth it.
I don’t know if I can believe it yet, because it would indeed be one hell of a long-game, but how else do all the pieces fit together?
Maybe we can fulfil what a group of people, just like us, weren’t able to do back then. Maybe our own prophecy isn’t just something random, but the end result of some plan set up long before we existed? I’m not sure if that’s a scary or a hopeful thought...
Because they failed, and we’re in no way strong enough to fight the fae king right now.
