15. Hunter House, on present-day Washington Street in Newport, the shore-based headquarters of the French fleet from August or September 1780 until August 1781. The house belonged to Colonel Joseph Wanton Jnr who abandoned it because of his loyalist sympathies. It is now open to the public.
