The men waved and headed back up the rise, leaving them alone, holding hands, in the middle of the highway.
"Is the fire out?” She looked up at him.
"Not yet. The wind is making it hard to get a handle on it. But you're safe. This side is out. Go take care of Lizzy."
"Are you going back up there?"
"I've got to.” He brushed her cheek with his thumb. “As soon as we get this under control, I'll have someone drop me off to pick up my truck."
"Did anyone tell you what started it?"
"Wayne. The county sheriff caught him in the act of setting another tool shed on fire. While he wrestled the boy, the flames got out of control."
She stared beyond him. “I still can't believe he'd set these fires."
"It's hard, I know.” He stepped back. “Look, I've got to go."
She grabbed his arm. “Warner, one more thing."
His blood pulsed against her soft fingers circling his wrist. “Yes."
Her demur smile warmed his heart.
"When you're finished putting out that wildfire, do you want to start another?"
The golden twinkle in her brown eyes told him he was in for a repeat of their love making from last night. He pulled her close. Her breasts crushed against his chest filling in the vee of her blouse. “Tonight, tomorrow night and from there we're going to figure things out,” he whispered before tasting her wild spice.
