“We’re a team,” I agree. “Part of a secret family. ‘Two become One and Five the same.’”
She gives me a bemused look, and I hug her and laugh.
“It’s something from the prophecy,” I tell her. “I’ll explain it later.”
Life is perilous. Mine is uncertain, but I’ve decided I won’t live without hope. The Eternal Emperor has had his eternity. I’ll fight for mine, and if Fate happens to choose me for Anqi Sheng’s prophecy, I’ll complete it on my terms, not the Emperor’s.
