He retracts the cup to see Erryn sitting on the bar.
“Erryn?” Valedent drinks in the sight of her as she nods with her smile that he missed.
She hops down and Drotonic tackles her with a hug, “I thought I almost lost you.”
“Everyone, Lady Summoner. Erryn. Refuser of death,” Valedent shouts, and the room cheers, shaking the foundation of the temple as masses of drinks are served.
Kulman serves her food and some refreshing water to help with her revival. After hours reach into the night, Erryn seems to start falling asleep at the table.
“You alright?” Valedent notices.
“Yeah, I’m just tired. Who’d think after all the sleep I’ve had I would be tired already,” she smiles.
“Why don’t we get you upstairs so you can rest? It will help,” Drotonic suggests.
“Yes, sir,” she casually salutes with a smile. Erryn leads the way as Drotonic follows behind her, and with Valedent in the shadows. After entering the lobby, they see temple knights standing to attention along the walls.
“What’s going on?” Erryn asks.
“Erryn?” a man calls out, approaching them.
“Bishop, how nice to see you again,” she greets him standing in front of the stairs.
“It’s refreshing to see you up and about again as well.” The bishop hugs her.
Then the knights begin clapping as he let’s go of her.
“Awe, thank you. I wish I wasn’t so tired. I could enjoy your company, but I can barely stand,” she admits.
“Of course, I just needed to witness your revival from the Garden Springs. Tomorrow over breakfast, once you wake refreshed, we can catch you up on what you’ve missed.”
“That sounds like a plan. As you can see, I’m very much alive but tired,” she smiles, wishing him goodnight. Drotonic takes the key and helps her up the stairs as Valedent follows behind. Erryn misses a step, falling backward and Valedent catches her. He picks her up, carrying her to her room.
While carrying her in the same manner as three days ago, he remembered his fear of losing her and questioned again his interest in her. But as she snuggled against his chest, he was relieved to note she was fine. The warmth of her body and the firm grip on his arm comforted him.
Once in her room, he takes off her boots, lying her under the blankets. He looks at her face which expresses exhaustion. He wonders about the feelings he has.
After making her room secure, Drotonic remains by her door, refusing to let anything go to chance. Then Valedent bids him goodnight.
Now to enlighten miss crazy pants before she decides to kill me, he thinks.
