"I don't think so, I know it's coming. Seems to make a difference."
The doctor shook his head. "Nope, I probably really don't want to know anyway."
Stacy picked up the bag furnished by the hospital to hold our personal things and we settled down in a waiting room outside the right surgical unit.
"Did they get the girl out all right?"
"Yes. They're going through the house now. I suggested—strongly—that they go underneath."
"How many are they gonna find?"
"Fifteen. Maybe more. Maybe as many as twenty."
"Dear God."
"They'll be wanting to talk to us, of course."
"Of course."
"I just told 'em Chad was a PI bounty hunter and we'd stumbled on this Zander guy unexpectedly during routine surveillance, that Chad hadn't actually thought he'd be there. Figured he could field the rest."
"Good figuring."
Chad's phone rang. It took me a minute to pin the location. The bag of our personal items.
I pulled it out. New career calling.
"War-N-Wit, Inc. Ariel Garrett. How can we help you?"

Gail Roughton is a native of small town Georgia. Her Deep South heritage features prominently in much of her work. She’s written for over twenty years while raising a family and pursuing a career as a Paralegal/Legal Assistant, promptly throwing each completed book in the closet.
