Jill tilted her head. “You mean ‘attempted’ viewing session.” She used finger-quotes again.
“I know you said it was horrible.” Eric said before Jill interrupted.
“Don’t be so polite, Eric. It was worse than horrible. Remember, I was the one screaming hysterically in the session. I looked like a goddamn idiot.” Jill crossed her arms.
“You’re not an idiot, Jill. The team understands, I understand.” They sat in silence until Eric leaned over and slid the pouch towards her.
“Thanks for bringing this, Eric.” Jill’s hand warmed touching the old pouch. She sighed, then looked at Eric. “And thanks for the recommendation for the US Marshal Service.”
“I’d really hoped you’d reconsider.”
“I can’t, Eric. I can no longer RV. Well, not now anyway.” She sighed again. “Maybe I never will.”
Eric looked at Jill knowingly. “Tucson is beautiful,” he consoled.
Jill looked across the open field blanketed with fresh snow and surrounded by majestic mountains littered with evergreens. “I’ll miss having the four seasons. But Tucson has mountains and I hope I will have a place high up in them. A place that is safe. A place that is peaceful.”
Eric rested his hand on top of Jill’s and said, “You will Jill, a place just for you.”
