‘Secret service, Winston? Not my style.’
‘Not secret service, Murdoch. We have one of those already. Secret warfare, against the enemy. I would have thought it was just your style. Nothing but the offensive.’
‘Well...’ But it was a command. A fighting command. ‘Sounds as if it could be. I’ll have to learn.’
‘I have the men to teach you. So get well, fairly quickly.’ He stood up. ‘Oh, by the way, we’re giving Ian a posthumous VC.’
‘Thank you,’ Murdoch said.
‘He deserved it. He must have known he was dying, all the time he was supporting you in the water. You have sons to be proud of, Murdoch.’
Yes, Murdoch thought. All of them.
