“Mateo, are you sure this is what you want?”

“I wouldn’t have hired that family to act like they were lost so we could steal your bags and get you into this office if I didn’t.”

“What? Why you…you did that on purpose? I’m going to kick Jimmy’s—”

Mateo leapt to his feet, threw his arms around her to keep her captive, and kissed her until her head swam. She was putty in his hands and thrilled by it.

When he finally raised his head to look down at her for his answer, she gave him a dirty look. “Let’s get something straight, buster. If you think you can pull the wool over my eyes every time you tick me off, then you—”

Again, he silenced her with his lips.

  She pulled back and sighed.

  “Okay.”

  “Okay?”

Rae nodded. “Someone’s got to keep the infamous Dr. Love Shark out of trouble. It might as well be me.”

She squealed in delight when he lifted her up and spun her around then kissed her once more.

The wedding on the beach was spectacular, followed by the biggest luau the resort had ever thrown. Rae was so happy but for one thing. She was concerned about Piers. Though he’d been Mateo’s best man, the rift between them wasn’t completely healed.

Janie stood next to her during the ceremony as her maid of honor, and Rae noticed her friend’s interest in Piers. His eyes followed Janie often during the party.

Mateo came up behind Rae and slipped his arms around her waist, kissing her neck.

“I think we have the makings of a new relationship between our two friends.”

“You think? I wonder if Piers is okay with us marrying. I know I can’t keep you both, but I love him in a different way than I do you.”

“So do I. He and I had a long talk before the ceremony, Kalei. We made up. It seems that Janie and he are more than interested in each other. They’ve been inseparable all week long. She’s talking about transferring to the Hawaiian branch of her company.”

Rae was surprised. “She never told me.”

“She wanted to tell you after we got back from our honeymoon, but I thought you should know. Piers is already falling for her. Look at them, Rae. See the light in their eyes as they dance together? That’s what you do to me each time I look at you.”

Rae turned to face him. “Mateo, will we always be so in love?”

“You can count on it. I’ll worship you every day and shower you with it.”

“Um…well, you might not have a lot of time to do that.”

He looked surprised, then concerned. “What do you mean?”

Taking his hand, Rae placed in on her belly. “In about eight months, we’ll be too busy for romance.”

Mateo’s eyes widened before he dropped to his knees and kissed her tummy.

“I’ll cherish every moment as long as I have you with me, Rae.” He murmured to her belly, “How’s my little one? Daddy’s waiting to hold you.”

His arms came around her waist as he listened to her stomach. Through her tears of joy, she laughed when he looked up suddenly.

“I think that our child is hungry. Let’s get you fed, my beloved bride.”

As he swung her up into his arms, he kissed her with all the passion in his heart, and Rae realized that she was finally home.
