Just Here for the Pain Page 28

“Oh, yes…” Sid grinned and leaned in for a long kiss. “I love everyone seeing what a catch I’ve got.” Sometimes he still felt slightly guilty over having pushed Asher away for so long, so he took extra care to make sure his partner knew just how proud Sid was of having him as a boyfriend.

When they pulled away, the warmth in Asher’s gaze melted his heart as if it was made of chocolate. He wanted Asher to drink it all.

They didn’t have much time to talk privately after that, because Mr. Hill served the turkey, and everyone was ushered to the long table that consisted of three pieces of furniture to accommodate all the guests.

The food was among the best Sid had ever had, but what Sid really enjoyed was the relaxed atmosphere of all the people just chatting about things both important and not, of Christmas carols, and the silliness at the table. It was like having a family that didn’t condemn everything you wanted to do and who was there to support your choices. Abra was already warming to the idea of enjoying herself instead of the constant self-flagellation promoted by their estranged family.

Sid casually put an arm on the back of Asher’s chair, drinking yet more of the homemade eggnog. “Wanna go see the garden? They always decorate it all and fill it with surprises for the kids.”

Asher wiped his mouth with a napkin and nodded. They weren’t participating in the charades going on by the huge Christmas tree decorated with DIY ornaments of wood, straw, paper, and gingerbread, so no one would miss them if they disappeared for a few minutes. By the time Sid and Asher reached the door, Lolly and Abra were busy pantomiming something related to being behind bars.

The air outside was brisk, and Sid gladly took it into his lungs. As much as he enjoyed the homely scents inside the house, he was getting a little bit overwhelmed by them.

As expected, the garden was decorated with lights in the trees, and between the bushes, they walked into a whole maze of light-up stars, reindeer and fake snow.

“I’m so happy you’re here with me,” he said and kissed Asher once more. “Even if it means the ‘candy cane’ you got for Christmas has to wait until we go home.”

Asher smirked, pulling him close for the sweetest, gentlest of hugs. “Thank you for bringing me here. I didn’t say it, but I was afraid it would be awkward. But these people…they are all just…so nice and loving. It’s weird, but I feel like I belong here.”

“Why would it be awkward? They don’t know your history of stalker-fuckery.” Sid grinned into the kiss and pinched Asher’s ass, but when he got a much stronger pinch in return, he curled his toes. Unlike his, Asher’s skin wasn’t sore or bruised.

Asher’s mouth rested on his neck, and they both remained silent for a while, just breathing each other’s scent and enjoying this moment of peace.

“I haven’t had anything like this since I was fourteen. I’m not used to feeling close with people,” Asher confessed in the end.

Sid felt silly doing these intimate confessions in a garden filled with lights. The sweet nature of it went against the spikes he’d grown around himself, but with Asher he was free to be vulnerable. Free to admit that he too wanted love and closeness.

“Get used to it, because the Hills love having people over.” He squeezed Asher tighter. “I want you to be a part of it all, you know? Not just to be with me. I want this for you.”

Asher leaned back so that their eyes would meet and reached to his wrist, unclasping the Rolex he’d purchased for Sid so many years ago. With a smile, he lifted it slightly and exhaled with relief when his lover didn’t say a word of protest. Gently, Asher slid the watch that was still warm from his own touch, over Sid’s hand and closed it where it belonged. Granted, it was loose on Sid’s much narrower wrist and needed adjusting, but this time his gift has been accepted. After such a long time, it was where it belonged.

  “Merry Christmas.”

Only that the guy is older, more experienced, drives a Harley, and has the kind of boots Jake craves to lick.

  But he won't.

  Because he only fucks patches.

Vars is ready to find a new home in the Kings of Hell MC after a messy relationship led him straight to hell. In comparison, the pretty, blue-eyed prospect could be just the pleasant rebound he needs.

The boy is a brat, but that could be amended with a firm hand and a gag.<

If only Jake was ready to admit to his submissive needs, Vars would gladly take him under his wing.

That is, until he finds out something inhuman resides inside of Jake.

Vars didn’t cheat death only to call out to it again.

But stuck together in one room, keeping each other’s secrets, they might just have to become allies, no matter how unwilling. Because if there is something Vars can’t resist, it’s a boy with pleading eyes.
