Finally his screams couldn’t be heard anymore. Kai turned her attention to Tommy, who sat hunched over, tears in his eyes.
She glanced at Tyson and then gave Tommy a big hug. “This is probably the worst day of your life. However, it’ll get better after this.”
He shook his head. “How can it ever be good again?”
“Don’t let your uncle’s murder be the end of you. Make something of your work. Prove it can be done without lying and cheating,” Tyson said quietly. He motioned to the detective at the door.
“Unfortunately I have a lot of questions for you for the next few hours.”
“What about his stepbrother—my father—is he in trouble too?” Tommy asked.
Detective Mannford walked toward them and answered, “Yes, he is. But more for fraud. I don’t believe he had anything to do with your uncle’s murder. And I don’t think he had anything to do with the stalking issues.”
“No, just for whatever Burning Edge was up to,” Kai said.
Several hours later they took Tommy home to his place. At the end of the police questioning, he’d been pretty broken up. Detective Mannford had offered to give Tommy a ride, but he’d looked at Kai, so she took him home.
When they dropped him off, making sure he had a couple friends to stay with him, she walked back out with Tyson and said, “So does that mean you’re heading home to your place now?”
“Where is my place?” he asked. “The compound is about forty minutes from here. Currently I have been living with you more than there.”
She laughed. “Well, maybe that means you have two homes instead of one.”
“You know? I kind of like the sound of that,” he said with a smile. Outside at the SUV he turned to her. “I really like the sound of that.”
She slipped her arms around his neck. “Good. Because what we have has nothing to do with the job. It has nothing to do with all the pain and headache I went through because of Larry and Warren. It has nothing to do with Tracy and the wonderful relationship we both had with her. It has to do with us. And I, for one, don’t want to lose it.”
“And I don’t want to lose you,” he said, his voice low. “So I highly suggest we play it by ear and see which place we want to live in. For the moment we won’t change anything. You can spend some time with me at the compound, and I’ll spend some time with you in Houston at your apartment. And then we can decide which place works better for us.”
She snuggled into his shoulder and teased, “Are you sure you don’t want a relationship just to get your hands on that VR system first?”
He pulled her closer and held her tight. “If that’s a side benefit, who am I to argue?”
She rolled her eyes. “You get to play the hero in virtual and real life.”
“As long as I’m your hero,” he whispered, “I’m a happy man.”
Epilogue
To see Michael and Tyson happy, with an air of contentment on their faces, excited at the new beginning in their lives, well … Jace didn’t know what to say. He’d watched it happen—for Tyson at least—and Jace was so damn happy for his buddy.
Tyson had been to hell and back. He’d been broken, but, in true Tyson form, he hadn’t stayed broken.
So how did Jace move forward? He’d been here at Legendary Security’s compound for just over a week, and several jobs were coming but hadn’t commenced yet. Jace felt like he was wasting Levi’s time—and his own. Except being here with his friends all in one place was an incredible experience, and he wanted to keep that. Build on that. He could put down roots here—maybe.
He felt like he had yet to prove himself. As if he’d been given this position on the grace of others’ recommendations. But, so far, not having proven his worth.
And that fostered a fake-sick feeling in his stomach. Pity was not his strong point. He could do a lot but hadn’t specialized in anything since leaving the military. He’d worked at a lot of things, but nothing had been a good fit for him.
He’d spent time on Rory’s ranch, helping him and his family out. Rory was another of his unit who’d walked out of the military at his side. Having a reason to go and help had been a Godsend. Throwing hay bales and wielding a pitchfork had done wonders for working off the frustration Jace had been ignoring. But when the ranch work calmed down, he’d known it was time for him to leave.
But now he was here at Michael’s recommendation. And Michael had been right. This was a good place. It did feel right. Just didn’t feel like Jace’s place. At least not yet. Jace knew, or knew of, most of the men in this room, but so many women—stunning, nice women—were in the room that he was blindsided.
“Are you okay?” Kai asked, appearing beside him. She had a bright smile on her face. Then she always did. And, if her smile was that much brighter for being with Tyson, well, Jace couldn’t blame her.
He nodded. “Any reason I wouldn’t be?”
She laughed. “Who knows? Like Tyson, you tend to sit in the background and watch everyone.”
“I’m not that bad. Besides, I’m the new guy. It’ll take a little while to find my place.”
“It might. And it might not. Tyson was a new guy too.” She motioned to the sprawling crowd. “I’m still finding my place as well.”
“I can see that.” Jace conceded that point to her. She was the latest in the group of women to arrive. Like he was the latest in the men. He had to admit, turning the page to a new start in his life held a lot of appeal right now.
Merk walked over and smacked Jace on his shoulder. “So are you ready?”
Jace raised an eyebrow. “Ready for what?”
“To lose your single status.”
“Like that’ll happen anytime soon.” Jace waved to the full room around him. “All the women are spoken for.”
Ice laughed from behind him.
He turned and grinned. “Am I wrong?”
“Nope, you’re not wrong.” She shot him a wicked grin. “But wait until tomorrow. Your world is about to change.”
“Says who?”
“Me. I spoke with Emily Leacock today, then did my research. You wait and see if I’m wrong. That voice of hers…”
In spite of himself, Jace was interested. “I don’t know her. When is she coming?”
“First thing tomorrow.” She stood taller to kiss his cheek. “Say goodbye to bachelorhood.”
And she walked from the room, leaving Merk and Kai laughing like fools.
“I’ll make my own decision,” he declared to Ice’s back. “Besides,” Jace said, facing Merk and Kai, “the poor woman could already be married.”
“Not if Ice did her homework.” Kai snickered. “Ice’s intuition is becoming legendary.”
Jace smiled at that, given the name of the company Ice and Levi had pulled together. Tomorrow, huh? Well, he couldn’t wait.

Author’s Note
Did you know that Authors never see Star Ratings? When Amazon asks a reader to “Rate this book” on their kindle, Amazon is the only one to see those ratings. This is not what an author means when they ask for a “Review.”
Reviews are important for an author. From a business standpoint Reviews help authors qualify for advertising opportunities and help other readers make purchasing decisions. Without triple digit reviews an author may miss out on valuable advertising. And with only “star ratings” the author has no chance of participating in promotions to bring sales to their favorite fans!
A few kind words left in a review can make a huge difference to an author and their muse. Sometimes those review words might be what drives an author to write until two in the morning or to forget to stop and eat in order to finish that book.
This is why authors keep asking for reviews. So please consider taking a moment to click on the links when offered and write even a handful of words. Writing a review only takes a few minutes of your time. It doesn’t have to be a lengthy book report, just a few words (as little as five is acceptable) expressing what you enjoyed most about the story is a huge help.
Please do continue to rate the book on your kindle as that helps Amazon, but take an extra moment and pop over to the review section and leave a few words!
Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed Tyson’s Treasure, and I look forward to hearing from you.
