The Raven Room Page 26

by Ana Medeiros

She shook her head in response.

  “Then who?” Pam pressed.

Alana slid to the floor in tears. She didn’t reply.

“Calm her down,” Pam said to Meredith, disgust in her voice. Her eyes lingered on Alana before she turned toward the door and followed Colton and Julian out of the condo.

Meredith was about to curse at Pam but stopped herself. She was relieved Pam was leaving without Alana and didn’t want to give her any excuse to turn around.

She crouched down to a sobbing Alana. Meredith wanted to hug her but was afraid doing so would hurt her. Alana now looked even worse than she had the night before.

Meredith kneeled on the floor. “I’m so sorry about your sister. I really am.”

She moved the hair away from Alana’s neck. Suddenly, Meredith understood what Julian was trying to tell her. There was no scar.

Meredith cupped Alana’s face with both her hands and tilted her head up, so they were facing each other. “You’re not Alana,” Meredith said as gently as she was able to. “Alana was murdered last night. I want to know your name.”
