The Magical Book of Wands Page 47

by Raven M. Williams

Sally looks uncertain, and then smiles. She holds up her ash sprig with pride. “I told you, Grams. It’s a...special twig.”

Choking a sob, Jill sweeps the little girl up in her arms. “So you did, Sweetie, so you did.”

  “Don’t be sad, Grams...”

“I’m not.” Jill smiles through her tears.

She speaks the truth; the teardrops rolling down her wrinkled cheeks are tears of joy. For the first time in years – decades – she feels the intense elation that can result from the smallest spark of hope. There is magic to be found in the world yet.

  About the Author

I was born in Rotterdam in the Netherlands in 1970, and grew up in the Netherlands, Thailand, Nepal, Oklahoma, Tanzania, England, Egypt and France. Having been told too often that I live in my imagination, I took the hint and moved there on a full-time basis. I currently live in Brighton in the county of Sussex in England. I have written seven novels/novellas in different genres (Steampunk – Amster Damned, contemporary fiction – On Brighton Streets, historical fiction – Will’s War in Brighton, Will’s War: Exile from Brighton, contemporary fantasy – Escape from Neverland, Dance into the Wyrd, Forgotten Roads). Shorts have been published in two Writerpunk Press anthologies (Merely this and Nothing More, and What We’ve Unlearned) and the Dreamtime Tale Fantasy anthology Dreamtime Dragons. My short story Limbs won second place in a Steampunk Readers and Writers writing competition, it can be found on my website.

Rather confusingly I sometimes write as Nils Visser, Nisse Visser or Nils Nisse Visser. It made sense at the time. My sincere apologies.
