Chapter 9
I looked at Sky. He was a mess. He kept calling me 'the voice' and mumbling about how cold he was. I pulled off his clothes, which were soaked with sweat and vomit. I picked him up and placed him next to the shower. I looked around for a rag, but there was none. I took off my shirt and tore off the sleeves. I wet the rags and wiped him down. I saw no electricity emerging on the surface of his skin.
"So that's what's wrong with you," I said to myself. I washed and dried his clothes out the best I could. I put them back on him. I heard the door open and close. "Keep quiet." I didn't bother seeing who it was. I was more worried about Sky right now than who ever had come in.
"What's wrong with him?" a guy asked.
"Lost his electricity," I said. "I'm sure that if he doesn't get it back, he will die." That was one of the hardest sentences for me to say, but it seemed extremely likely. I looked at the guy behind me. He was a big dude. He was black. He was a little taller and had a bigger build. I noticed he had a watch on. "Hand me the watch."
"No, this is the only thing I have that's mine," the guy said.
"If you don't hand me the watch, then my brother will die. Now, you give it to me and you will help save his life or I will kill you and save his life. Your choice," I said. He took off the watch and handed it to me. "Can you help me break it? I need the batteries out of it."
"Yeah," he said. He took the watch, set on the ground, and slammed his hand down on top of it. It easily broke. I grabbed the battery. "What are you going to use that for?"
"Hoping that it'll help charge him up," I said. I opened Sky's mouth and put the battery under his tongue. "I need your shirt." I took mine off and put it on Sky. The guy complied. I put this one around his legs. I let out a sigh. This was all I could do for now.
"If my brother gets better, he can fix your watch," I said getting up. "Thanks for not making me follow through with my threat. I'm Nate."
He looked at my hand for a moment and then shook it. "I'm Mason. So, are you out of the box like him?"
"If you're talking about his powers, then yeah, I'm a mind reader, or at least I was," I said as we sat down at the table.
"Don't worry, man. They'll come back. They always-," he got cut off by me punching him in the gut. "What was that for?"
"There are cameras," I said in a harsh whisper. I could feel them. After being around Sky for so long, I learned to pick up some of it. "Don't talk about things like that. Think if you have to but don't talk. If they realize they made an error, they will fix it or eliminate it." He nodded understanding. After a moment I said, "I hope Robyn and Nick will be ok when they find put about this. I doubt it. It will probably be a slap in the face when they realize what happened to Sky."
"What are you doing?" Mason asked in a harsh whisper. "They will surely come in here with you talking like that."
"Good, I'm planning on it," I said back. "They'll probably lose hope when they see Sky like this." After that I sat there and waited for Robyn and Nick to come in.
After an hour of waiting, or what felt like it, I started to pace out of anxiety. I was worried. Sky was on the ground, most likely going to die. They obviously knew our names now. Mom and Dad were probably worried sick. It would only be a matter of time before they realize that we are the Silver Seals. Dr. Victor and Copycat were probably ruining the city now that we were out of the way. I was sure Mom and Dad would get captured just for their amusement. I was also half expecting them to shoot a ransom video and reveal who the Silver Seals were. Everything the three of us worked so hard on to keep a secret and to keep safe was coming down, fast. I punched the wall out of frustration.
Now I knew how Sky felt when he had those stitches. Helpless and weak. Except, we can't just leave and help people like he could. We were in a prison. I looked straight at Mason. "Fight me," I said. I needed a way to work out my frustration.
"I'm not going to fight you," he said. "I would break you in two." After a second, he sighed. "Fine." So we fought. He was stronger but I was faster. We called it a tie when we heard Sky moan.
I kneeled down next to him. "Sky, you ok?"
"Yeah. Nick is that you?" he said.
"No, Nate. Are you feeling any better?" I asked.
"A little," he said. "My head still hurts, but I don't feel as cold or nauseous. What did you do?"
"Battery from a watch," I said. "But, if we don't find some more electricity, I'm pretty sure you won't make it."
"Hmm," he said. He tried to get up. I lifted him up and helped him to a sitting position. "If I don't make it, let Robyn know how much I love her, same to Mom, Dad, and Nick."
"Well, I'll tell them that as soon as I run out of options. I'd die before I would let you," I said.
"I know, but just in case," he said. I nodded just as the door opened.
"Here's your food," the guard said. He brought in a tray with three bowls of gruel, a pitcher of water, and one tin cup. I moved my spoon through the food. It was the same consistency as glue and peanut butter.
"You hungry?" I asked him.
"No, just some water please," he said. I poured him a cup and then tried to eat. It tasted like bland oatmeal with aspirin. I set it aside, not hungry. I looked over at Sky. He had went back to sleep.
"You want that?" Mason asked, shoveling it in.
"No, you can have it," I said.
"Bro, you have no idea how good this is," he said. "One of the best meals I had in ages. You guys must be top priority."
"Are your taste buds faulty?" I asked. "I've had soy loaf that's tasted better."
"Soy loaf?" he asked, his nose wrinkling up in disgust.
"Our mom gets random health kicks. Soy loaf was one of the things she made." I let out a sigh. I missed them. I heard the door open. I looked and saw Nick get thrown in. "Hey bro."
"How many of you are there?" Mason asked, taking a break from inhaling his food.
"He's the last one. He's my other brother Nick," I told him. "Identical triplets."
"Oh, well, I'm Mason," he said holding out his hand.
"Nice to meet you," Nick said taking Mason's hand. "Where's Sky?"
"Over there." I pointed to where Sky was sleeping.
"What happened to him?" Nick's eyes got wide.
"Apparently Sky's body needs electricity to work right. I've never seen him this sick before. He hasn't left that spot. Before he kept calling me 'the voice'. His fever let up a little since I gave him a battery to suck on and he hasn't vomited yet either," I told him.
"You know it's serious if he stays in place," Nick commented.
"Yeah, but I think he'll die if he can't regenerate his electricity or get more," I said.
"What do we do?" he asked.
"I don't know," I said. "Just sit and wait, I guess." Nick nodded.
