Epilogue
“I think it’s time we went home,” Corbin said as he shoved his phone in his pocket. “My father does, as well. He said he is tired of handling the masses by himself.” He rolled his eyes with a sigh. “He wants his son back to help him settle the many disputes that have popped up over the last several days.”
They had spent more time in Paradise, in an effort to convince the men here that they were as honorable as they claimed. Now, it was time to head back home, whether the alpha of this clan liked it or not. They had obligations in the Cascade. It was time the men here came to realize that.
“Disputes?” Vince frowned and leaned closer to whisper to Corbin. “What kind of disputes could he possibly be tired of taking care of? Our people get along famously.” Vincent’s statement would have been correct a month ago, but not any longer.
“They did, yes,” Corbin said. He rested his hands on his hips and shook his head. “Right up until I called Father and told him that we had found our mate among those in Paradise. Now, everyone wants to leave the Cascade and go looking for their bond mate.” He glanced at Vince and waggled his brows. Even the shifters stuck in mid forms, those who don’t look quite human, want to leave the Cascade in search of those they could call mate. It wasn’t possible.
Gabby’s eyes widened. Can they do that? She frowned. I thought you said they must stay in the Cascade?
Corbin smiled down at her. Have I told you how much I love you? He did, too. He never failed to think about how lucky they were to have found her.
Not today, she replied with a grin. Now back to what you were saying. Can the others leave the Cascade, or not?
No, Vince said through their mate link. Not without endangering the entire clan. Which is why Corbin’s father is having issues.
Oh. She wrapped an arm around each of them and leaned her head against Corbin’s shoulder. I do love you two, but I’m beginning to wonder if I didn’t get myself into something I might want to get myself out of someday.
Too late, pretty lady, Vince said with a grin. You’re already caught in our trap. Though, thankfully, none are stuck half beast, half human, or anything else quite so controversial, there are those who can’t leave the Cascade. It would endanger us all. If only there was a way to help them, to disguise them.
Someone tapped on the microphone and Corbin glanced up to see the alpha’s mate and a few of her friends standing on the platform in the center of the town’s park.
“Come on, everyone! It’s time for the costume contest,” one of the women called over the noise of the crowd.
“Come on up onto the stage,” the sheriff’s mate, Gemma, called out to the children present. “Stand with your age groups so the judges can see you.” She winked at her mates with a smile. “We’ll have the adult contest later.” Apparently, her mates were the judges.
Corbin watched as the parents led the children onto the stage. Many of them wore long witch’s robes and sorcerer’s hats. What drew his attention, though, were the men whose wives dressed them as vampires with bat ears and animals with long fake ears and tails—as though they needed fake tails and ears.
The three of them stiffened, and then looked at each other, their excitement palpable. Grinning, they all said at the same time, “I have an idea!”
Watch for the Caspian Cascade series where the story of the Caspian Tiger clan continues…
About the Author
Dear Reader:
If you’re reading this, I hope it means that you’ve just enjoyed reading one of my books. Always a romantic, I started weaving little fantasies for my friends at the tender age of fifteen. Never once did I think that writing would be my dream until around 2002. After complaining to my husband that my favorite authors didn’t write fast enough, my husband asked a fateful question. “Why don’t you write one of your own while you’re waiting?”
Once I started, he couldn’t stop me. Now, I write in the morning before work. I write during my breaks at the day job, I write at night when I should be relaxing. Heck, I’ve even been known to write in my sleep. Every member of my family has had the dubious honor of witnessing my fingers moving over the keys while I’m off in dreamland. Sometimes it even makes sense!
I grew up in Southwest Florida where I met and married. My husband was in the Navy for twenty years, so if you wonder where I have gotten some of my ideas, I blame him. I suggest you do the same. He’s always saying he has wide shoulders. Let’s load them up, shall we?
Currently, I live in a small town in Michigan, seven miles from the nearest grocery store. I love living out here in the country. It gives me the peace and quiet I need to continue to write these stories for you. It also shows me a lot of natural beauty that I try to share with you in my books. While my titles may be dedicated to certain individuals who have touched my life in differing ways, please remember, every one of them is written for you.
My most recent dream is to continue what I do—to share more stories with anyone willing to read them. My new dream is to be able to pursue both my writing and my husband fulltime. Do you think he’ll run?
