Ranch Hand Wanted (Curves And Cowboys Book 3) Page 3

by Mandy Morgan

“Oh, oh, oh my God,” I moaned as he brought me to the brink of exploding. “Yes, Travis, yesssss…”

“Come for me, Layla,” he panted. “I want you to come for me, right now!”

For once, I let myself take an order from a man, and I rode the waves of pleasure coursing through me, until I crashed into bliss with a deep moan.

Seconds later, Travis joined me, grinding himself into me as he received his own release. He pressed his lips to mine as he came and I wrapped my legs around him, wanting to enjoy every moment of him being inside of me.

“How was that for earning my keep?” Travis whispered with a grin as he moved onto his side and pulled me into his embrace.

I rolled my eyes and laughed before snuggling up against him. “Not too bad for a day’s work, cowboy.”

We laid there naked in the hay and talked until the moon was high overhead and we were both too exhausted to continue.

I found out that there was a lot more to Travis than I’d realized. And I put my defenses down and truly shared myself with him.

As I drifted off to sleep in the arms of my ranch hand, I didn't know where things would go from here, but I had to admit that I was excited about the possibility of something for the first time in a long time.

And for right now, that was enough…

  Travis

After my roll in the hay with Layla, I was more determined than ever to show her how much she meant to me.

I threw myself into work and slaved my days away to make sure that Rocky Ridge became profitable. My nights were dedicated to being the best man I could be for my boss lady and lover.

I’d never felt so strongly about a woman before. For the first time in my life, I found myself putting another person’s needs before my own. And my arrogant ways blew away like dust in the wind.

To say I was a changed man would be an understatement. It was all thanks to Layla and the second chance she’d given me when I’d been down.

My hope was that our fling would turn into something much more. We were good together and I prayed that Layla could see that, too.

About two weeks after that first smoking hot lovemaking session in the barn, I was in the kitchen making dinner when Layla came in. She was carrying her laptop and bubbling over with excitement.

“Travis, the ranch is finally out of the hole! We actually managed to do it!”

Layla was grinning to beat the band and she’d never looked more beautiful to me in that moment. I was happy for her and also thrilled to hear that she’d included me in things.

“I knew that we would, lovely lady,” I said, pleased to see her blush instead of roll her eyes at me calling her anything other than her name.

She set her laptop on the table and made her way over to me. With a sweet smile, she took my hand in hers and pressed her lips to my skin.

“Thank you,” Layla said softly. “For all of it.”

Just being this close to her had my cock stirring in my jeans and I pulled her into my arms for a long kiss that had us both burning for more.

“I think dinner can wait, don’t you?” I asked in a voice that was deep with desire.

“Oh, it can definitely wait. But I sure can’t.”

The come-hither look Layla gave me was enough to have me growling with need. She could turn me on as easy as flipping a light switch.

“I say we celebrate now and eat later, boss lady.”

I swept her up into my arms, enjoying the way she giggled like a love-struck schoolgirl. I strode across the kitchen and out to the living room, where I tossed her gently onto the couch to the sound of more giggling.

After stripping away our clothing, we stretched out naked together, exploring each other’s bodies with our mouths and hands.

I was rock-hard and ready to go from the very start, but just being close with Layla like this was pure bliss, and I didn’t want it to end.

Our kissing deepened and I knew I wouldn’t be able to deny the driving desire between my legs much longer, but there was something I had to say first.

I took Layla’s face in my hands. “I love you. I know that might sound crazy coming from someone like me. But it’s true. I want you to be mine and mine alone for as long as you’ll have me.”

Layla looked into my eyes with a growing smile. “I know that, silly man. I love you, too. Now, why don’t you go ahead and prove your feelings to me?”

With a teasing roar, I buried my face into Layla’s neck and nibbled her flesh. I could feel her opening herself up to me like a flower in full bloom.

Moments later, I was slipping into her wet heat, and I’d never felt more like I was coming home than I did right then…

  Epilogue

  Layla

I pulled into the barnyard a little after high noon and was welcomed by the sight of a group of happy people and horses.

Travis was in the middle of it all, giving direction and making sure everyone was feeling confident. He’d turned out to be an amazing leader and instructor.

When he’d first come to me about his idea over a year ago, I wasn’t sure it was going to work, or even if it was the smart way to go.

But his program had been a success for both the ranch and the community. Travis was helping recovering addicts through equine therapy and I couldn’t be more proud of him.

We’d come a long way from the cocky cowboy and the stubborn ranch owner. It had taken hard work on both sides, but we’d been there for each other every step of the way.

I had a lot of paperwork to do, but I was enjoying just standing there and watching Travis work. It wasn’t easy to ignore those muscles of his. I’m only human!

But then he spotted me and broke away from the group. He made his way over to the nearest paddock fence and unhitched Gracie, wearing a big smile as they both headed in my direction.

I didn’t understand what I was seeing at first. There were flowers in Gracie’s mane and tail. And something was hanging from her halter and glinting in the sun.

As my man and my mare came closer, I felt my breath catch in my throat. There was a diamond ring tied with a ribbon coming my way. My heart started pounding and I could feel myself grinning like a fool.

Travis pulled the horse to a stop in front of me and gave her nose a rub. I watched in surprised silence as he untied the ring from Gracie’s halter and got down on one knee.

“Layla, I don’t how to describe how much you mean to me. All I know is I’m a better man for knowing you. Will you make me the happiest cowboy on the face of the planet by being my wife?”

I could feel tears dripping down my face. Travis had managed to turn me speechless with his sweet surprise. But I managed to nod my head and throw myself into his arms.

We collapsed into the dirt, kissing and crying, as his recovery group members applauded and called out congratulations.

Gracie looked down on us like we’d lost our minds before she started grazing contentedly. I was blown away that Travis had thought to involve my beloved horse in his proposal.

That must have been what helped me remember that I could talk. I pulled away from the tangle of our limbs and looked into the face of the man I love.

“That’s a ‘yes,’ in case you couldn’t tell.”

“Oh, I could tell, lovely lady of mine.”

Travis helped me to my feet and dusted me off. I reached up and kissed him again. I just couldn’t get enough of him right then.

“Are you happy?” His breath on my neck as he asked me his quiet question sent tingles of pleasure up and down my body.

“I couldn’t be more happy if I tried. All I can say is thank God for that wanted ad and the formerly cocky cowboy that it brought with it!”

Travis took my hand in his and picked up Gracie’s lead rope. And with that, we walked together toward the barn and a better life than either of us could have ever imagined.
