  Chapter One

The pictures flashing across the television screen did nothing to hold Lyndsey Turner’s attention. Instead, her mind and body were honing in on the man beside her.

His thick thighs resting beside hers, the heat from his body burned along her whole right side. She’d played the good girl for weeks now, acting as merely his friend and settling for chaste kisses on her cheek.

“So what do you plan to say to my dad tomorrow night?” Lyndsey interrupted the on-

screen monolog, hoping to find out why he’d insisted on having dinner with her father. Their families had been acquainted for years. Travis’ dad had been an executive at her father’s company, Mama Turner’s Logistics until Jack Clark and several other executives had died in a car wreck.

With the death of Lyndsey’s mother, her father had turned to Marianne Clark for support.

The two of them had grieved together. Now, they were dating and the entire executives wives’

club had a stake in their affair, seeing as all of them had remarried except Marianne.

Travis toyed with her hair, his fingers lightly tugging on the strands. “Not sure, I’m hoping if he sees us together he’ll begin to accept us as a couple.”

Unhappy with how the evening was progressing, Lyndsey drew her sweatshirt further

down over her jeans. Tonight, they had agreed to have an in-house date with items picked up from the supermarket’s deli and a rented DVD. She’d hoped with no interruptions that they might move their relationship into a more intimate arena. “He’s seen us together at Brie’s and Jason’s, and Sylvia’s party to celebrate her marriage to Vince. Why will this time be any different?”

His brown-eye gaze met hers, melting her inside to mush and lighting a hunger for so much more. “Because we won’t be surrounded by family.”

Frustrated by his answers and his standoffish attitude, she rose onto one knee and swung her leg over his to straddle his lap. She rested her hands on his shoulders. “And if he still doesn’t like the fact we’re dating?”

She rubbed his chest, enjoying the soft texture of his cotton T-shirt. “Though in truth, I’m not sure we can claim we’re doing anything other than sharing the same space.”

Grinning, he circled her waist and his fingers toyed with the hem of her top. “You’re just cranky because you’re still recovering from the concert last night. I told you when we booked it we wouldn’t get home until late.”

Lyndsey smiled, remembering the wonderful music. The only drawback being the long

drive back from the casino in Iowa and the early wake-up call this morning to get ready for work. Tuesday night was not the best night to party. She’d survived, but today, her patience with his aloof attitude had hit ground zero.

“That’s not the problem.” She dropped her hand to the zipper of his jeans and cupped his length through the stiff fabric. “I’m tired of playing around. I want this bad boy deep and making me scream.”

Travis groaned and captured her wrist. “God, Lyndsey, you have to know that’s what I want too.”

“Then what’s holding you back? I’m over eighteen, on birth control pills, have my own apartment and supporting myself. I’ve done everything I could to prove...” She stopped, suddenly realizing the problem between them.

“You don’t think I’m good enough for you, do you?” She jerked her arm back, freeing herself and held her hands up to use as a barrier between them.

“That’s not true.” He gripped her waist and hauled her closer. “I want you so much. I have to take a cold shower whenever I so much as think about you.”

“Then what’s the problem?” Lyndsey had debated this point with herself for weeks, had badgered him for an answer, had tried to be reasonable but still he wouldn’t let loose.

He groaned and nuzzled his face against her neck. His lips nipped at her skin. “I won’t be able to stop.”

Confused, she lifted her hands to his shoulders and raked her fingers through his hair.

  “How’s that a problem?”

“Because I won’t be happy with sitting here on the couch watching TV anymore. I’ll

want you at my apartment, in my bed, every free moment devoted to me. I’m a greedy SOB.

With some women, I can keep it to a few romps in the hay and be done.”

He slid his hands under her shirt and with a slight twist of his wrist unhooked her bra.

“That won’t happen with you. I’m addicted and so hungry for you. I’m ready to walk down the aisle.”

Stunned by his comment, she froze. “Whoa, I’m not asking for a lifetime commitment. I just want...”

“That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you. Once I make love to you, you’re mine. There’ll be no one else but me.”

His serious tone had her drawing back. She studied his face, judge the sincerity of his words. Captured almost immediately by the determination shimmering in his heated gaze, she trembled. The fun-loving playboy, she’d believed him to be, morphed into a possessive lover.

Raising the question of how involved did she want to be with him?

Lovers—yes, spend a lifetime with him—no. She’d contemplated doing that once before.

One broken heart was enough. After leaving college last fall, she’d mapped out her plans for the future. They didn’t include marriage. Instead, she’d found a job to support herself and intended to do what she wanted. Without being accountable to anyone, she’d considered following her dreams of becoming an artist. She glanced at her closed bedroom door. The painting sitting on her easel tempted her with what part of the scene she hoped to work on next.

Travis’ hands glided over her ribcage, reminding her of the reason for pursuing him. The man offered fun for the short-term with no risk of a
ny long-term entanglements.

Her focus narrowed, and she shook her head. “I’m sorry, but I just don’t see it. You’ve dated lots of women. Why become fixated on me?”

He grinned and cocked an eyebrow. “Because I can bend you to my will.”

“Right, what you’re really saying is you want to make sure I don’t get serious. Because once you’ve had your fill, you’ll bolt for the door.” Lyndsey shoved aside the panic, rising in her chest. The man had been testing her, trying with his willful manner to point out how they had different expectations for their relationship.

“Not bolt, stroll, and if I’m reading you right, you won’t care if the door hits me in the ass on the way out.” He eased his hands upward and cupped her breasts.

“If your ass is naked, I might beg you to stay a few minutes longer,” she teased.

Capturing the hem of her shirt, she drew the fabric up over her head, throwing it and her bra onto the floor. “So do you plan on satisfying me or are you leaving?”

  Chapter Two

Staring at the challenging glint in her brown eyes, Travis had to smile. She had him, and he knew it. For weeks now, he’d kept things light between them. He’d noticed after spending time with her at different family functions that she had an independent streak a mile long. Proven by her decision not to return to school, instead she’d elected to pursue a career in business.

Luckily, she was familiar with how a business operated because she’d spent several

summers working at her father’s company. After acing the interview he’d gotten her, she now worked in the same building as he did. The increase in salary gave her enough money to move into her own apartment.

With her newfound freedom, Travis had realized she was ready to spread her wings and get into real trouble. He wanted to protect her and stepped in as her first conquest.

He’d enjoyed the chase. She was a beautiful girl, who liked to cut loose and go a little wild. Unlike the straight-laced professional women, he normally had contact with in his job as a contract lawyer. He regularly met with corporate executives and business people. Most of the women he encountered were interested only in climbing the ladder to success. They might engage in a short fling to satisfy their sexual desires, but only until they needed to close the next big deal.

Of course, her father, Knox Turner didn’t know about those occasions when Lyndsey got out of hand. She hadn’t divulged those details, and Travis certainly didn’t intend too.

Example being last night’s concert. She’d worn a dress that barely covered her ass and four-inch heels, which highlighted the long length of her legs. Excited by the music and feeling the effects of a few drinks, she’d rubbed up against him and whispered seductive words from different songs in his ear. Effectively proving his resistant had thin to the almost breaking point.

The only saving grace was the over-an-hour drive home. She’d crashed once they were in the car and fallen asleep immediately. With time on his hands, he’d charted out the exact date his celibacy would end. The plan set. He resisted the urge to follow her inside when they arrived back at her place by reminding himself he’d make love to her, repeatedly very soon.

“Damn, Travis, you’re getting me excited.” Lyndsey gripped his shoulders and rocked forward. The movement shoved her stiff nipples deeper into his palms.

He dropped his gaze. The dim light from the television cast a celestial glow over her skin.

Her body appeared like a porcelain work of art, yet so soft. His focus narrowed, moving hungrily over her creamy breasts visible through the spaces between his fingers. A fire lit in his groin.

Unconsciously, he squeezed her lush flesh harder and leaned forward.

He had no misconceptions of being a white knight tonight, one who gave pleasure and expected none of his own. Over the last few months, he’d use a vast amount of his common sense and willpower to resist her. Now, he wanted a sample of the pleasures to come.

He zeroed in on her mouth, knowing he shouldn’t kiss her, but he did it anyway by

forgetting every promise he made to himself regarding their relationship. Her father’s displeasure didn’t matter, nor his mother’s. This narrowed down to the hunger roaring inside him.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t deny it any longer.

Heat exploded through him as her mouth opened under his. He groaned with pleasure and broke out in a sweat. Her being ten years younger than him didn’t bother him. One sip of her lips and he quickly became addictive to her unique flavor. Then she melted invitingly under his touch and a carnivorous hunger filled him.

She slid a hand across the nape of his neck and through his hair, holding him close as if afraid he’d break free. His brain grew foggy. Her wet mouth shifted restlessly against his, seeking more. Unable to refuse her or him anything, he thrust his tongue deep.

A moan vibrated through her, igniting a fire in his blood. He tore his mouth from hers, lifted her off his lap and guided her onto the couch. He followed her to the surface and set his lips over hers before she could react.

Finally lying over her, he aligned his body to hers. His feet hung over the edge, and he rested the majority of his weight on one side. A thigh occupied the space between her legs. He’d wanted her for so long, the sweet softness of her lips, skin, body. His lips grew more demanding, but she didn’t shy away. Her hands ran over him, yanking at his shirt, reminding him of the cloth barrier between them.

He released her mouth and stared into her wide eyes. Impatient to have skin on skin contact, he yanked his T-shirt over his head. Once free, he dropped a hand to her waistline.

“Travis,” she gasped before he covered her mouth again. Her unbelievably sweet zest rode over his taste buds, inviting him to take more. Her mouth opened wider under his. He dipped his tongue inside, starting a rhythm she instinctively responded to with eagerness. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and held him close. The sensual pressure of her breasts, cushioning his chest sent a rush of need through him.

A rough, low sound vibrated deep in his throat and he unbuttoned her jeans. He felt sure he’d die if he didn’t touch her silky heat soon. Tugging down the zipper tab, he slipped a hand into the V of her jeans. His fingers dove under her lace panties. Oh, yeah, she was wet. This woman wanted him.

  “Trav—”

He gulped in a quick breath and kissed her again, working repeatedly over her lips and sucking her tongue into his mouth.

She whimpered, the sound rising up from deep within her. Her hands clamped over his shoulders, her nail scoring his skin.

Drawing his lips away from hers, he slid his nose across her cheek to her ear. “Never doubt how much I want you.”

She lifted her hips, the smallest of movement to entice him closer, her intimate flesh, hot and wet. Her irresistible scent inflamed his senses.

“Travis, please...” She gasped and threw back her head.

He couldn’t resist and recalled her demand for satisfaction. Smiling, he remembered the plan he’d devised last night. It quickly changed to include tonight’s pleasure. He’d give her a sample of the bliss she’d find in his arms and make her hungry for Friday night’s events.

With his eyes feasting on the flush color of her face, neck, and breasts, he thrust a finger deep inside her.

She groaned and a whole litany of words burst from her lips, most of which consisted of his name or a demand for more.

Her moisture rained over his palm and he added a second digit. He stared at her stiff nibbles and gave into temptation. His lips captured one firm berry and drew hard on the stiff peak. Arching her back, she forced her breast deeper into his mouth. Unable to resist, he wrapped his tongue around her needy flesh and fed on the rich treat.

“More,” she panted. Her eyes squeezed shut, her voice a frantic cry. She tightened her hands over his shoulders, her breath growing labored.

Working to satisfy her, he slid back his fingers. Three plunged deep with the next thrust, stretching her internal wal
ls to the limit and increasing the friction. He clamped his teeth over her nipple, relentlessly driving her closer and closer to the edge.

She rocked her hips, matching the rhythm he set until her muscles clenched around his fingers. Her climax broke over her. She quivered in his arms. The sight of her coming apart was better than he ever could’ve imagined. Visions of what he had planned for the coming weekend flashed in his head. He’d have to stock up on food because he planned to keep her at his apartment until late on Sunday night, maybe, Monday morning.

Softly, he kissed her, drinking in her little cries of delight as she melted beneath him.

Damn. He didn’t want to wait and seriously considered altering his plans. Take her tonight, then leave and head home before he had to head off to work tomorrow?

No, he hadn’t lied when he told her he was a selfish SOB. He wanted her in his bed for hours, not on her couch for a few minutes.

Yes, they could resume things on Friday night. He wanted their first time together to be special, not a quickie followed almost immediately with him leaving.

She tunneled her fingers through his hair. “That was incredible. Now, why don’t you slip off your pants Travis, and we’ll go for round two.”

“An enticing offer, but not on the agenda.” He rolled to his feet and stood in the space between the coffee table and the couch. His gaze ran greedily over her golden blonde hair that lay in disarray on her head. Then he noticed the satisfied smile on her lips, her bare chest, undone jeans. The journey ended at the tip of her red painted toenails.

With a teasing shrug, she stretched and arched her back, fully displaying the lush swell of her breasts. His mouth watered and his already aching groin throbbed with displeasure.

“Your choice. Still seeing as you’re not willing to join me in bed, I suggest we call it a night. I’m tired after getting home late.” She swung her legs around and rolled to her feet.

“We’re also having dinner with my dad tomorrow evening. I should probably straighten up the place some more before then too.”
