Spirit Riding Free--Pru's Diary Page 6

“Whoa.” To Pru’s ears, the music sounded like a cross between crying babies and howling monkeys.

  The crowd loved it.

The performance was amazing. And when it was over, the audience begged for an encore.

  They couldn’t refuse.

After they’d finished, the PALs, Solana, and Catalina were shocked to find that the autograph line stretched around the tent. It took more than an hour to greet all their new fans.

The last person waiting in line was Lydia Sebastian.

“Congratulations!” She gave high fives and hugs to each of the girls and sugar cubes to each of the horses. Lydia had a camera with her. “You were by far the best act in the exhibition. I’ll be writing my article about the clown act. Can I get a photo?” She had her camera with her.

The girls gathered around with all the horses. They were all still dressed in costume.

“Say ‘cheese,’” Lydia Sebastian told them.

They all started to say it, but then Boomerang suddenly brayed loud and squeaky—it didn’t sound like “cheese,” but whatever it was, it made them all laugh.

Lydia snapped the camera, and the moment was captured on film.

  Diary Entry

  Dear Diary,

Abigail and Lucky knew the truth all along: I never really made a wish on the green unicorn.

I thought it was silly and wishes like that never come true. But you know what? Everything I ever wanted really did come true at the circus exhibition. I had the most amazing clown show ever, I got to be in the newspaper, I wasn’t homesick anymore, and my best PALs were by my side. What more could I want?

Before we washed the paint off Boomerang and removed his costume, I brought him out and told my friends to make a new green-unicorn wish.

I held hands with Catalina while she whispered what was in her heart. “I hope that we’ll all be friends forever,” she said softly.

I leaned over to her and said, “Yep. That’s what I want, too.”

  “Me too,” Solana said.

  “Yep,” Lucky added.

“Friends forever,” Abigail finished. “That’s the perfect wish.”

Abigail, Lucky, and Solana gathered around us. We all hugged and cried a little—knowing this wish would definitely come true.
