There were four of us total to arrive today. Doctor Forster was the replacement for the old head physician. Julia Briggs was a biologist. She was here to study the local plant- and wildlife. Last was Samuel Torrentino. He was a teacher and was supposed to open a school, since some of the soldiers had a wife and kids here. I was going to work in the hospital with doctor Forster.
“What about wild animals?” Julia asked. “Do they come into the village sometimes, or do they stay in the woods?”
“We haven’t had any problems with wild animals so far,” Sergeant Blakes replied. “We have our watch dogs, and the wild animals don’t come close to the settlement. The only wildlife you will see here are insects—lots of them—birds, and some rat-like animal that is absolutely harmless.”
“I can’t wait to start working,” Julia said excitedly.
“Here we are,” Sergeant Blakes announced. “This is our Clubhouse. We all come here—soldiers as well as Alien Breeds.”
We were standing in front of a two-story building with muffled music coming from within. The sergeant opened the door and showed us in. Every head in the building turned to look at us. Inside, the music was much louder, and I barely heard anything Blakes said. I was too busy looking around anyway. As Blakes had said, there were soldiers and Breeds in this Club.
In the middle of the room was an open floor for dancing surrounded by tables, many of which were occupied. In the far corner was a bar where people sat with their drinks. Apart from the Alien Breed I encountered at DMI years ago, I had never been up close to one. Now I was surrounded by Breeds. I wondered if the man I saw at DMI was also here. There were two colonies on Eden, so there was also a chance he was in the other one.
“What did you say?” I asked Blakes, who had said something while I was off in my own thoughts.
“I said there is a free table over there,” he yelled, pointing to the other end of the room. He led us to a table next to the dance floor. Everybody went back to their own conversations.
I was excited. When I left DMI and went to the press, I hadn’t known how many Alien Breeds had been created by the scientists. I had been right about the involvement of the government, though. In the DMI building I worked in had been sixty-two men and thirty-eight women. Another facility in Mexico had housed a hundred and forty-eight men and seventy-four women. Only four years ago, another facility had been detected in Arizona. There, thirty-nine men and eight women had been freed.
“What would you like to drink?” Sergeant Blakes asked.
“What else apart from beer to they serve here?” Julia asked.
“We have wine, cider, whisky, brandy, vodka, soft drinks, and coffee,” Blakes answered.
“Do they have orange juice?” she asked. When Blakes nodded she said, “Okay, then I’ll have vodka and orange juice.”
“Me, too,” I said.
“Beer for me, please,” said Andreas.
“A beer for me, too,” Samuel chimed in.
Blakes left to get the drinks from the bar. I noticed a woman on the dance floor. She was at least six feet tall and had a body I wouldn’t achieve if I worked out ten hours a day. All Alien Breeds were muscular by default. It was in their DNA, male and female alike. I admired the way this woman moved to the music. So sensual. Sexy. Next to her I felt plain and fat. To make thing worse, that woman had the most stunning hair that fell down to her ass in shiny waves. I noticed that every Alien Breed here, male or female, was frustratingly attractive. I couldn’t help but get really hung up on it.
After the third drink I really needed to pee.
“Where are the toilets?” I asked Blakes.
“Through that door over there and down the stairs,” Blakes explained as he pointed to where I needed to go.
“And what is upstairs?” Samuel asked.
“There is a game room with pool, table football, and tables for card games. There is also a little bistro and a bar where they play music videos.”
“Pool?” Julia shrieked. “Does anybody want to play?”
“I’ll play,” I answered. “But later. Now I really have to pee.”
I got up and made my way through the tables towards the door. I noticed the stares from others in the room and felt insecure. I didn’t have as much confidence as Julia. She seemed to feel completely at ease here. I wasn’t used to having so many strangers around me. And so many sexy hunks with delicious muscles that were practically begging to be touched. I blushed at my thoughts and hurried my steps—why was that damn door so far away?
Once on the other side, I was relieved to be alone. I ran down the stairs to the basement, where the toilets were located. A female soldier was just washing her hands when I entered. She smiled at me.
“You new here?” she asked.
“Yeah,” I said. “I arrived today.”
“You will like it here,” the woman said. “My name is Cloé.”
“Jessie.”
“Cool. See you later,” Cloé said with a smile and left the bathroom.
“Okay. See you,” I said to the empty room.
When I was back on the ground level, three men came down from the first floor. All three were Alien Breeds. I froze when I noticed one of them who looked very familiar. It was him! The man I saw at DMI. His hair was shorter—now it only hung down to his broad shoulders—but I was certain it was him. How often had I dreamed about him since I gave the pictures to the press that helped free all of them? Sometimes they were bad dreams where men in white coats and surgical masks tortured him. In other dreams, he was free—and he kissed me. These kinds of dreams were more disturbing than the ones about the torture because I would always wake up aroused and with this strange longing.
He saw me and frowned. Then his face changed into a mask of pure rage. He growled, and a cold shiver went down my spine. His two companions looked at him in shock.
“YOU!” he said in disgust, and I wondered why he obviously hated me so much. I was the one who helped him and the other Breeds get freed.
Before I could react or say anything, he was pressing me to the wall. One big hand went to my throat and I looked into a pair of very angry eyes.
“Rage!” one of the other Breeds shouted. “Dammit, Rage! Let her go!”
“You!” Rage—what a fitting name—snarled.
My heart was beating a hundred miles an hour as I looked up into his amber eyes—eyes that were not human at all.
Rage
I couldn’t believe that she of all people would dare come here to Eden—this evil, lying bitch. I had suffered so much because of her. They tortured me to within an inch of death. For a moment, I had wanted to believe that she was an angel coming into the darkness of my hell. As it turned out, she was anything but. How often had I pictured putting my hands around her neck like now and snapping her fragile bones? I hated her with a burning, fiery passion. That was why I choose Rage as my name. Because thinking of HER made me so fucking angry. She may have looked like an angel with her golden curls, blue eyes, pale skin, and pink lips, but looks were deceiving. I could see the fear behind her beautiful eyes. I heard Sturdy shouting behind me, but I ignored him. I was focused on her. My time for revenge had finally come.
“Please,” she begged, her lips trembling. A tear rolled down her cheek and dropped onto my arm.
The scent of her fear tickled my nostrils. Even back in my cell, when I first saw her, I had noticed how sweet she had smelled. Despite my rage, I got hard. I didn’t want to desire her. It was wrong. She was a monster with the face of an angel and a body that could tempt any man to fall to his knees and worship her.
She was small. She only reached up to my chest. Unlike our Alien Breed females, this one was soft and round all over. I imagined how good it would feel to have her under me, and I hated myself for those thoughts. I growled at her as she tried to squirm out of my hold.
“Keep still!” I rasped and buried my face in her neck to breath in the scent of her soft skin.
“Rage!” came Happy
’s irritated voice from next to me. “Let the female go. You are frightening her.”
“No!” I snarled. “Leave us alone!”
“Dammit, Rage!” Sergeant Blakes demanded as he joined us. “Let go of this woman! What is wrong with you? Have you had too much to drink?”
Jessie
I trembled uncontrollably. His hand was still around my throat, but the pressure was gone. I could feel his hot breath on my skin. His friends and Sergeant Blakes tried to get him to let me go, but he would not listen to them. I could feel his canines raking over my skin and I cried out in panic.
“That’s enough, Rage!” Sergeant Blakes shouted angrily. “If you don’t let go of her at once, I will have to arrest you! Let Doctor Colby go and get the fuck out of here. Go home and calm the fuck down! I don’t want to see your face in the Club for a week.”
“Come on, Rage,” one of his friends begged. “Let her go. She didn’t do anything. She is only a little female. She is no match for a guy like you, man. Come on. I walk you home.”
Rage growled and let go of me. His gaze penetrated me, making me nervous and excited at the same time. Then he turned around and followed his friends out. I took and deep breath and exhaled. Julia hugged me tight.
“I am so sorry, Doctor Colby,” Blakes apologized. “I have no idea what has gotten into him. He has never behaved like that before. Usually he is a friendly guy, and all Alien Breeds strongly disapprove of violence towards women.”
“It- it’s okay,” I said, still a bit shaken.
“I will personally escort you home,” Blakes said. “Come. I think it’s best to call it a night.”
Rage
“What the fuck is wrong with you?” Sturdy asked, irritated. “Why did you do that?”
“I know her.”
“Is she the one that-” Happy started, but my angry snarl shut him up.
“What are you two talking about?” Sturdy asked. He hadn’t been in the same institute as Happy and me.
I took my shirt of, showing Sturdy my back. He gasped when he saw the countless scars that ran all over my back.
“Holy shit,” he murmured. “Now I know why you never take off your shirt. But what has the female got to do with it?”
“She is the reason for those scars.”
“I don’t understand. Did she do this? Or did she command it?” Sturdy asked in disbelief.
“No, but what she did was the reason they tortured me for three days until they thought me dead. I heard her. She was standing in front of my cage and laughed that I was dead. She called me a filthy animal. But I wasn’t dead. We were rescued shortly after that, and they saved me.” My thoughts went back to that day I met her.
I heard footsteps, looked up, and there she was. She looked shaken and afraid. She seemed to be an angel, coming into my dark hell to save me. But then I remembered what she really was. HUMAN! She was one of them. She was evil.
“I’m warning you,” I said with a growl. “I will break your neck if you try to take any more blood.”
She startled. Her eyes were wide with fear.
“I - I am not here to hurt you. I - I didn’t know...” she stammered.
I looked at her, taking in every detail of her appearance. Her blonde curls, the frightened blue eyes, the creamy white skin, and the pouty pink lips. Then I took in her scent. Under that sharp smell of her fear, she smelled sweet and absolutely delicious. I wished I could bury my nose in her neck and breathe her in.
“Why are you here?” I demanded. “You work for them, but I have never seen you down here before.”
“I - I am a cleaner,” she answered, pointing to a cart with cleaning supplies. “I came here - I - I thought that-”
“You thought that you wanted to take a look at an Alien Breed. I understand,” I said scornfully.
“Alien Breed?” she asked breathlessly, as if she didn’t know.
Hypocrite! As if she could work here without knowing what an Alien Breed was. Everything they were doing here was about us. Our DNA, our blood, our skills–everything!
“HUMAN!” I growled and showed her my teeth. “I hate humans. You created us only to torture us. But don’t worry. The time will come when we will be free. I will find you, human! And I will break your pretty little neck!”
“I don’t understand,” she whispered. “There are more like you? How many?”
“Don’t act innocent and clueless. Did they send you to try to earn my trust? So that I would breed with you?”
“B-breed?” she stuttered, acting shocked. She was a damn good actress, I had to give her that.
“You should let them know that I am not that easily fooled. I will snap your neck like I did the other women they brought into my cell.”
“I - I really had no idea. I didn’t know. Whatever it is they are doing to you here is horrible and inhumane. You must believe me that not all humans are like - like that.”
“That makes no difference!” I said with a fierce growl that startled her.
“P-please,” she stammered as I advanced forward as far as my chains allowed.
She smelled even sweeter up close. I closed my eyes to focus on her enticing scent. I could feel my blood rushing south. Angry over my body’s reaction, I opened my eyes and looked at her angrily and longingly at the same time.
“You smell good,” I said hoarsely. “They chose well. Your sweet scent - I could have fallen for it. But I didn’t.” I breathed her scent in again and growled, aroused. “I could imagine breeding with you first instead of killing you on the spot.”
Her gaze wandered over me, pausing on my mid section. Her eyes widened, and I couldn’t help but feel a bit of male pride over my very large and obviously ready-to-go equipment.
“My body might want you, human,” I growled darkly. “But it doesn’t mean that I don’t detest you. I would breed with you, but I would still kill you afterwards! Do you really want to die for them?”
“I - I am so sorry,” she whispered.
She sounded so genuine that I began to doubt my earlier assessment of her. But then she took out that small device that all humans here carried with them to communicate with each other or capture images with—images of me. I snarled furiously, baring my teeth.
“I know you have no reason to trust me, but I will find a way to get you out of here. I promise!”
She glanced at me apologetically and turned around to flee. I let out an angry roar and started to throw a fit in my cell until the guards came and attacked me with tasers until I passed out.
Two days later, two physicians came with six guards to my cell. Since the attack with the tasers, I had not had anything to eat or drink. They must have thought me weak enough that six guards could handle me. Their mistake soon became very clear when I killed three of them before I went down with three hits of tranquilliser.
When I came to, I was chained up, face to the wall. A physician and two nurses came into my cell, followed by one of the most brutal guards.
“You really are a feral beast like she said,” the doctor said. “She has commanded your death, but I think it wouldn’t be right to just kill you. No! You will suffer for what you’ve done to the poor guards before I allow you to die. I always thought that you were not worth being kept alive. You are a monster, worse than the others. You even killed the fucking whores we gave you. You wouldn’t breed with your own women, but at least you didn’t kill them. But any human female—they were just not good enough for you, huh? You think you are something better? Now, that is where you are wrong. We are superior. We are your creators. You would be nothing without us.”
“I would rather die than touch any of your women,” I snarled. “And I did warn you that I would kill them, but you shoved them into my cell anyway. You delivered them to me, so who is the real monster here? You sacrificed those women in the hopes of gaining my interest so that I would make you some nice little Alien Breed babies.” I snorted.
“Gordon,” the doctor said in a cold voice. The gua
rd came closer.
“Sir.”
“He is all yours. But I want him to die slow. Don’t kill him to fast. Let him suffer for at least two or three days. I want him to beg for his death!”
I gritted my teeth. This guard was one of the worst. Some just did their job, but this asshole enjoyed making us suffer. I tried to prepare myself for what was to come. I didn’t want to give them the satisfaction of making me scream or beg. No! I would stay strong and die quietly. It was just a shame that I would die before I could get my hands around the neck of that little blonde bitch who took my image.
“Rage? Rage, man, are you alright?” Happy’s voice came through the fog of my memories.
“Yeah,” I answered.
I hadn’t thought back to that horrible experience for a long time, but the dreaded female had brought up all those memories. Why did she have to come here, of all places? What was her game play?
Sturdy slapped my back.
“Come on, man. I think you’ve had enough for today.”
Happy and Sturdy walked me home. I opened my door and turned around to my friends.
“See you tomorrow.”
“Rage,” Sturdy said carefully. He looked at me while Happy hung his head and stared at the ground. “We all have our demons, and I totally understand, but you can’t attack a female. That’s not what we do. It isn’t right. Promise me that you will stay away from her.”
I narrowed my eyes and snarled, baring my canines. Happy startled, but Sturdy stood his ground and looked at me.
“Rage,” he warned. “You are my friend, but if you attack a female, then I will put you down. Whatever problems the two of you have are in the past. Get over it! We have plans. We want to run things here on our own, and some of the humans here are with us on that. But if one of us goes feral and attacks a human, then they will never allow us to be independent. They will consider us no more than wild beasts. We have to show them that we can be trusted. I will not stand by and let anybody ruin this for us. Not even a friend.”
