Sleeping in Heaven, Waking in Hell Page 7

  “What did you do?”

“See, there you go again, assuming. Why I had to do something, Mama? She got mad on her own free will. I didn’t do anything, I promise. Never mind on the help, I will figure it out myself. I will call you when I get back and we can make plans. Love you and goodbye.”

I didn’t even wait for her to reply, I just hung up. I had no idea what was wrong with my mama. All of a sudden, she was questioning me and assuming things. She was worrying about some medication that I clearly didn’t need.

After the pointless discussion with my mama, I stepped out in the warm night air to go handle a little bit of business. I was meeting my new weed connect who was bringing me some Loud up to Jacksonville from Miami. The new guy had a Cuban connect and he was bringing in the greenery from over there. I was looking at twenty two thousand for five pounds versus the twenty-eight I currently paid. It was my first time meeting the guy and my nerves were on edge. I popped one of my small white pills and proceeded to the Waffle House to meet the guy.

The transaction was successful, and I was headed back to the room when I figured I would give Victoria another try.

  “Hey,” she answered.

“Hey, beautiful. You still mad at me, or can we talk for a minute?”

  “We can talk.”

“I’ve missed you so much, baby. I am so sorry I screamed on you the other night. I know you were there to help. I was wrong, and I am sorry. Could you ever find it in your heart to forgive me?”

“It’s possible, but I need some answers, Jody.”

“You right so here is the truth, I was in Columbia because I was getting some green for the stash. Some bitter girl I used to mess with back in the day spazz’d out me and the police were called. When they searched for weapons, they found the green.”

“Okay, but why the restraining order?”

“Because when we stopped foolin’ around, she made up a bunch of lies, and had the papers drawn. So when she saw me in the store and kicked off shit, I was in automatic violation because I wasn’t supposed to go within five hundred feet of her.”

“Wow,” Victoria said. “It’s some grimy females in the world. And what she was doing all that for? Over some dick? She really needs to get her life because there is no point in all that.”

I couldn’t believe she bought it so easily. That wasn’t hard at all. Victoria was more like my mother than I thought. She believed in me. “So, tell the truth, you missed me?”

“You know I did. I wanted to answer so badly, but I didn’t because I was afraid you would melt my heart and I would let you off the hook.”

“Again, I am so sorry, and it won’t happen again. Baby, I don’t wanna fight with you or go without you for even a damn day. I wanna see you forever. I know it’s kind of forward, but you will be my wife, Victoria? Have my kids? Meet my parents. Whatcha say?”

“I say yes! Yes to all of that.”

Victoria and I talked until the sun came up. I was on top of the world.

I was late for work, my boss was tripping, and to top it off, I had a headache from hell. Needless to say, my day wasn’t looking too bright. I received a call at my desk saying that I needed to report to the security desk.

  Damn, for what? I thought.

I slipped my shoes back on and made my way out front. Security greeted me and then told me I had a delivery. I stepped inside the booth to get the delivery and my entire week was brightened. Jody had sent me an Edible Arrangement. It had all my favorite fruits and some were even dipped in dark chocolate. The card read:

I appreciate you so much and I thank you for being in my corner. I love you “Future!” Forever and always yours.

I rushed back to my desk, grabbed my phone from my purse and then hot tailed it to the bathroom to tell Jody thank you in private. “Thank youuuu! Muah, muah, muah,” I kissed into the receiver. “That was so sweet, thank you!”

“Of course,” he laughed. “Had I known I would get all that, I would have been sent you a little something. How has your day been? You miss me?”

“My day sucked ass up until just now and you know I miss you. When you come back?”

“Two days. Did you notice I called you future on the card? You know why, right?”

“Umm, because I am going to be your wife?”

“No, because you are my sunrise, my sunset, my dreams and my success. You are my entire future, baby.”

“Aww, Jody. I love you so much.”

“I love you more. Now get back to work. Enjoy the rest of your day and call me when you get off.”

The rest of the day was a piece of cake. Jody changed the tides with my sweet surprise and the confirmation of an even sweeter life together.

A couple of day later, Jody finally made it back to South Carolina and we went to his home in Branchville to stay the weekend.

“Come here, I wanna show you something.” He walked me to a set of French doors that led to a deck showcasing a backyard full of beautiful flowers.

“Wow,” I gasped. “It’s beautiful out here.”

He then took me over to a net covered gazebo. Inside, there was a glass table and chairs with soft cushions. The table was a set with a meal for two, baked chicken breasts, saffron rice, steamed broccoli and yeast rolls.

  “You like?”

  “Yes, I do.”

  “Good, let’s eat.”

After our delicious meal, we cleared the table.

“Come sit on my lap,” Jody demanded and I obliged. I took my seat and snuggled into him. Jody placed a kiss on my forehead and made his way to my chin.

“You know I love you, right?” Jody whispered. “And I want nothing but the best for you, for us.”

“Yes, Jody. I know and I love you too. You have been like a dream come true. Everything you say, everything you do, everything about you, I love. I couldn’t imagine spending a day without you.”

“I’m glad you feel that way. I feel the same and after you graduate and get that big time job, we gon’ make this thing official.”

“Sounds like a plan,” I said real smooth, but on the inside, I was bubbling with excitement.

“Tomorrow, you meet mama and the old man, you ready?”

  “I am ready, baby!”

Meeting Jody’s mom went pretty much as I expected. I couldn’t say whether or not she was pleased with me or not, she seemed rather standoffish. Throughout dinner preparation, she didn’t say much.

I offered to assist her in the kitchen, but she gently declined. “I’m fine. You just have a seat.”

However, when dinner was finally served, she finally made small talk with me.

“So, Victoria, what is it that you do for a living?”

“I work for First National City Bank, and I will be graduating from USC shortly.”

“That’s nice. How did you meet, Jody?”

I went on to tell Mrs. White the story that brought her son and me together which I thought was a genuine love story, but she was not amused. Instead, she huffed about timing and getting my life together. I wasn’t sure if she didn’t want me to be with her son because of something I said or did, or if she just didn’t want to see her son happy. Whichever it was caused Jody to flip, and I wasn’t expecting that at all.

“Ma!” he yelled. “What you gotta be all nasty for? You haven’t said more than a few words to Victoria all evening and now you talking about her getting her life together. What is it, Ma? You never want to see me happy. You want me to be by myself forever? You don’t think I am good enough to be somebody’s husband?”

“Jody, calm down,” Mr. White interjected. “Your mother is talking to the young lady and you will not be in my house disrespecting your mother. We raised you better than that. Apologize.”

“I’m not doing a goddamn thing. I see where Mama was trying to go, but you know what Mama, your shit wasn’t put together when you met Pops. And Pops, yo
shit still ain’t together, so who needs to get their shit together?”

Jody was pacing the floor and yelling his head off. I didn’t see anything wrong with her questioning, only with her telling me to get my life together, that was some bullshit, but the way he was carrying on was completely out of line.

“Jody,” I said as I got up from the table, “Calm down, baby. It’s okay. It’s really not a big deal. Your mama was just stating her opinion,” I tried to reason with Jody.

“Shut up,” he screamed. “No one was even talking to you.”

“Jody that is enough!” Mr. White stood to his feet. I had no idea what was going on. Jody was screaming and his mother was crying. I didn’t know what to do. It was like he had transformed out of nowhere. He was fine a few minutes prior to his mom speaking and then he just snapped. He started throwing things and stomping his feet like a spoiled little kid.

“Jody, Jody, listen to me,” I wrestled for his attention. “I didn’t come here for all this. I will be waiting in the car, give me the keys,” I demanded.

Jody took the keys from his pocket and handed them to me. “Yeah, you do that. Go wait in the car,” he spoke dismissively.

I took the keys and told his parents it was nice to meet them and I got the hell out of that house.

“Mama, why would you start that shit? You want so bad for her not to love me. Why?” I cried.

“Baby, it’s not that I don’t want her to love you, because I do. What I want is for you to be good to her. Treat her right, baby. You won’t take your meds like you should and…”

“You always on that medicine shit, Mama. I got this,” I cried. “You want me to be dependent on something that slows me down and makes me tired. I can’t live like that.”

My mama pulled me close to her bosom and rocked me slowly while I cried into her collarbone. “I know, baby, I know. Bill, get me a cool cloth for Jody.”

My father did as he was told and Mama continued to rock me as she did when I was younger.

“Baby, I want the best for you and that girl, but I want you to take your meds and explain to her your condition…”

“No! I will not do that. She won’t love me if she knows. I can’t risk losing her. She loves me Mama, she loves me, she loves me, she loves me.”

“I know she does. I can see it in her eyes, I can see it in yours too, but baby, true love is unconditional. You have to let her know what she is getting into. You have to let her know, but if you refuse to let her know, you are going to have to take your meds like you are supposed to.” My mama was wiping my face with the washcloth and my breathing had begun to regulate. “Can you choose one? Can you do that for me?”

I changed up gears and calmed all the way down. “Yes, ma’am. I’ma do good. I promise. You gon’ see, Mama, You too, Pops. I have to go, my future awaits.”

  “I love you, baby!”

I hurried out the house to try and smooth things over with Victoria.

As soon as I entered the car, she went in. “What the fuck was that Jody? You straight disrespected your parents and turned the shit on me. You got serious problems, dude. Take me home.”

“You are right, and I apologize. My nerves got the best of me. I felt like my mama was attacking you, us and I snapped. I am sorry. It’s just that anyone that even appears as though they are tryna stunt on you, I got a problem with that.”

“Jody, you disrespected me yourself so save that shit. Home,” she instructed sharply, “take me to get my shit.”

  “Baby, let me…”

“Let you what? Explain? Jody, what is there to explain? You getting real loose with those lips and it’s really starting to get to me. Please, let’s go.”

  “Okay.”

I couldn’t believe she wasn’t giving me a chance to even explain. I was trying to make it right, God knew I was, but her and her bitchiness was starting to get on my fucking nerves. I figured once we got back to the house, I would make her feel good and fuck her like her life depended on it. She dug that shit. I turned on the radio to a station that featured old school R&B. The old R. Kelly, Silk, and H-Town and a bunch of other panty dropping artists could be heard the entire ride home. I was going to have to go in the bag on this one. My baby was mad but I was going to fix it.

When we arrived at my house, Victoria stormed inside and started grabbing her things throwing them in her overnight bag. While she was busy, I took her keys from the side pocket of her purse and placed them inside the refrigerator. I knew she wouldn’t think to look there when she realized they were gone. She wasn’t leaving and that was final. I walked over to the stereo and pressed play on the CD player. KC and JoJo crooned softly in the background.

“Victoria,” I called out. “Victoria, I know you are upset and I completely understand. I was wrong and I apologize. Please, have a seat, Future.” I took her hand and guided her to the wooden chair I had placed over by the sliding door.

“Do you believe in love, and the promise that it gives? I wanna love you for life. ‘Cause your love is why I live,” I spoke the words of Jodeci’s song Love You for Life. “Victoria, I am only human, I am gon’ fuck up, and you will too. We can’t have a strong foundation if we allow everything we do tear us apart. I don’t say I love you just because. I say it because it’s true. I don’t wanna be without you, ever. You are my rib. You complete me, ma. Please, don’t leave me. I am gon’ get it together. I was just so angry, but please don’t go. Stay with me, please,” I begged.

Victoria wiped a tear that had rolled down her cheek and nodded her head yes. She didn’t say a thing, just bit her bottom lip. Got her, I thought as I led her to the bedroom.

No words needed to be spoken. We both knew what time it was. I slipped my hand underneath her skirt and damn, her panties were wet. I wrapped my strong arms around her waist and placed my lips to her neck. I inhaled her fragrance and allowed my tongue to make small circles all over her collarbone.

Victoria’s breaths increased and she gave me her lips to kiss. That kiss was so delicate, so sweet, yet so sinful. She sat down on the edge of the bed and scooted herself back. Victoria looked at me with eyes that held hurt and I could tell by the slight mist that had begun to form on the rims of her lids.

“Trust me, baby, I got you. You my future, ma,” I whispered in her ear as I unbuttoned each one of the buttons on her Ralph Lauren blouse. When I made my way down to her khaki skirt, I peeled away the black lace that shielded her most prized possession. “Can I taste you?” I asked.

She closed her eyes and gave me the go ahead to have my way with her body. I slowly licked her opening, and took each one of her lower lips into my mouth, one at a time. My tongue took a dip inside that dripping kitty, back, forth, in and out, then I felt that pearl begin to swell. I gently nibbled at the knob before Victoria’s legs stiffened and began to shake. I reached up and took one of her breasts in my hand. I wanted to feel them both, but I couldn’t pry my mouth away from the pussy, nor my hand from my dick. She tasted just that good. I teased her nipple with my thumb and index fingers until she came all over my face.

“Oh, my God, yes, yessssss! Please don’t stop,” I cried as Jody demolished Ms. Kitty. I brought my arms above my head and squeezed the pillow to my ears. My pussy was throbbing and clenching Jody’s tongue as he face fucked Ms. Kitty. A stream of juices flowed from my body and caused me to bolt upright. I was panting and sweating and I tingled all over. Jody gave me a slight push to lay my body down, and then used his knee to spread my legs wider. He tried to penetrate Ms. Kitty, but after that experience, she was clamped so tight, nothing could get in. But Jody rocked back and forth until his head pushed through my opening.

  “Aaahhh,” I gasped.

  “Shhh, I got you.”

Jody pulled my face toward his neck, so I buried my face into him and wrapped my legs around his waist. Ms. Kitty was longing for his stroke. I felt the head as it m
ade entry into my canal. “Sss,” I hissed. I squeezed my legs tighter around my baby’s back and pulled him deeper. Jody braced himself and wouldn’t allow me to guide his manhood, he was in total control, and I was craving all of it.

Inch by inch, he crept inside me stretching my walls more and more. Once he was comfortably inside me, he steadily rocked his hips. He made me feel whole, wanted, needed, and more importantly I felt loved. The feeling that washed over me was one that I had never felt before, with anybody. I felt like he really was my destiny. Jody called put my name just as I whispered his, and together we climaxed.

Jody looked deep into my eyes, “Promise me, you will never leave me. I love you so much Victoria. Promise me you will be mine forever?”

“I promise!” I said with enthusiasm.

“Let’s go! Let’s go! Let’s go start packing up your things, come live with me!” Jody was beyond excited as he sprang from the bed.

“Now, you know good and well I can’t pick up and leave now. I have a job and school. We hadn’t even thought this thing through. I’m not at all saying no, all I am saying is let’s plan. Pick a date and go from there.”

Jody looked disappointed at my answer. It was like he couldn’t understand my rationale or that I have family a life separate from his.

The spark that was once in Jody’s eyes had dimmed, “Oh, yeah, you right. I’m sorry. I don’t know what I was thinking. When is graduation?”

  “In two weeks.”

“Will that be enough time for you to tie up your loose ends? I mean like two weeks after that, in a month.”

“Yes, it will. Oh, my God, Jody! I am so excited. I love you so much. You have been a dream come true and…”

“Shhh, don’t ever wake up,” he kissed my lips to silence my voice.

“What the fuck do you mean when you say moving in? Like as in packing your bags and going to his home to live, like reside?”
