He wanted to know if Mr. Twilliger had kept his appointment with Mr. Rickets. A lady with a soft voice answered. She told him Mr. Rickets was not in. Apparently this was his secretary. She said he did not make his 3:00 appointment. He might have caught up with Mr. Rickets later. They are old friends and do things after hours together when Mr. Twilliger comes into town. Mr. Rickets would not be back in the office until Monday.
If it was an emergency she could have Mr. Rickets call him if he wanted. Jasper said yes he would, and then he gave her the phone number. He thanked her and hung up. Then he picked up the phone and called a certain number with the Big City Police Department. Sergeant Mark McMillan answered the phone.
