CHAPTER 7

Jasper pulled up at the office. He had a lot to do. He wanted to check on the information Harry was working on. Hopefully he would have found something by now. Just then Jim pulled up next to him.

"Jim what is it? You look worried?"

“We still haven't found anything yet. Charles Gleason is bringing in some fresh dogs. I’ll drop Smokey off at the house and give him some fresh water and food. He did a good job. Rego was getting so blurry eyed that he decided to go back to the Big City. He said at first light he would be back out. I am going back out in about an hour when Charles is able to get here."

"Okay keep me posted," Jasper walked in the back door.

"Hi Harry, are you having any luck with the hospitals?" asked Jasper.

"Well, I have checked several hospitals, and two have a John Doe. Crawford Springs has a redhead about 30 years old, and Smiley Burg has a Jane Doe and that's about it. I got it out on the wire but so far, no hits. It’s kind of surprising how many people have no knowledge of who they are, or where they’re from" replied Harry.

"Thanks, Harry, with all of the scuff marks outside of Rollo's dog pen I was sure we would come up with something, and since the guys haven't found him out in the field yet, and Carl says that Rollo has been going wild since he's been gone," said Jasper.

"Well, as far as what happened to him, it sounds like only the dog knows. If Rollo could only talk," offered Harry.

"Well, you could be right. For now, let's find out what we can about Carl Carter and his son George Carter. Do you have time to help me here with the computer? I want to pull up the NCIC list and see if we can find out anything of interest."

"Sure, my beeper hasn't gone off yet. It's not time yet, and I sure don't want to go home and wait. I'd just as soon keep busy. I just can't imagine what in the world is keeping this baby so long. Good grief! We went in at 4:00 a.m. this morning. You don't think there is a problem and that's why it's taking so long, do you!?" expelled Harry.

"No, no, Harry I am sure everything is just fine. If things hadn't been, the doctor would have told you so. And you know as well as I do that a baby comes when it's good and ready, and there is nothing we can do to hurry it along. Now come on, I'll keep you busy, I need some information pulled up on the computer," calmed Jasper.

Next on the list was to pull up information on Carl Carter. He punched in NCIS and a Navy emblem came on the screen. This was rattling to Harry. He didn’t usually make such a simple mistake. On a normal day he was king of the computers. The distraction was working. Harry was engrossed with the computer at hand for a few minutes, and he was getting ready to try the NCIC again when, much to his surprise, his beeper went off. Harry came unglued yelling...."Her water must have broken. Oh! Now what do I do? Oh, okay let see, who beeped me? Okay, it’s the hospital. Phone. I need a phone. Can anybody help me? Where is a phone? "

"Right in front of you, Harry," said Jasper.
