Thanks to Reid’s unilateral action, no longer can a filibuster be applied to force a supermajority vote. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz were the last of the Jimmy Stewarts in the Senate.
As I’ve told you, the Democrat-controlled Senate has pushed through a group of their handpicked policy cronies disguised as judges to forward the liberal agenda. Here’s just one example of the damage the repeal of the filibuster rule can do. The president appointed three new members to the seven-member Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Janet Yellen, the new chairman of the Fed, now needs only a simple majority to have new board members approved.
But that’s not something you have to worry about, right?
All that board does is to decide what the government is going to do with your money.
It didn’t start out that way. The Federal Reserve Bank was created a little over a hundred years ago. Originally charged with creating monetary policy that would ensure economic stability, the Fed’s mandate has expanded to the point where the presidentially appointed regional Federal Reserve Bank Board of Governors—known as the Federal Open Market Committee, or FOMC—is considered a “bank.” Its influence and reach have extended far beyond that role. It now colludes with other major banks in doing everything from dictating interest rates to helping those banks hide such debt as valueless financial derivatives off their books.
But let me get back to the topic of Harry Reid’s knocking out the filibuster.
Even Carl Levin, the outgoing Democratic senator from Michigan, was appalled by Reid’s actions: “Once again [we] are moving down a destructive path,” Levin said. “Pursuing the nuclear option in this manner removes an important check on majority overreach which is central to our system of government.”2
So let me ask you, where will this governmental overreach end? Will the president and the Senate use this newfound power to seize your guns? Will the Senate, bowing to the president’s will, use the nuclear option to help grant amnesty to tens of millions of illegal aliens who shouldn’t be in the country in the first place? Will executive orders, immune to Senate scrutiny, continue to dole out entitlements that ensure poverty for life? Will the Obama administration continue to strangle the voice of reason and truth by appointing commissioners to the FCC who are intent on annihilating the First Amendment?
To those who support him, the president is the benevolent dictator they’ve been calling for. But where there is a dictator, there is inevitably gross injustice and the trampling of basic rights for all.
What is benevolent about our attorney general’s choosing which laws he will uphold based on his leftist ideological leanings?
What is benevolent about a Department of Homeland Security that allows our southern border to be overrun by Mexican cartels bringing drugs and violence into the country while it stores up weapons and ammunition and tries to prevent American citizens from owning guns?
What is benevolent about a president whose signature legislation is single-handedly leading to the demise of the greatest medical system in the world?
And what is benevolent about Mrs. Obama’s obscenely expensive and too-frequent travels with her mother and daughters along for a multi-million-dollar free ride at the expense of American taxpayers? This while her demands of a press blackout meant that even the lapdog U.S. journalists were not allowed to travel with her and her enormous entourage on her March 2014 “Spring Break” jaunt to China?
Guns and Globalists
Let’s begin with guns. In early 2013, after the Newtown tragedy, we were being bombarded with ideologically skewed misrepresentations of the importance of gun control in reducing such tragic events. As I said after Newtown, I don’t believe that psychopaths and other people with severe mental disorders should own guns. But I also know that the Democrats who want to take away our right to defend ourselves use the blood of innocent children to forward their agenda and take away all guns owned by private citizens. This does not include the guns that the Democrats themselves own. It’s a direct assault on one of our most precious civil rights.
At the same time Democrats are preaching gun control and trying to deny us our right to bear arms, they’re secretly reaping the spoils of their gun-control hypocrisy. Prominent California Democratic state senator Leland Yee, a guy who hails from San Francisco, where I live, has tirelessly crusaded for gun control, preaching to grab our guns.
While he was shamelessly badgering his constituents about the need for them to give up their guns, Lee was allegedly working with gun smugglers in the Philippines in order to buy automatic weapons from them and bring them into the United States. He allegedly planned to sell them here.
The state senator who wanted to make sure that private citizens couldn’t own handguns pled not guilty to “five counts related to influence peddling and one count of arms trafficking.”3 He was caught when he allegedly bragged to an undercover FBI about his smuggling operation. Lee’s response after his arrest? “I’m just trying to run for Secretary of State. I hope I don’t get indicted.”4
While the antigun propaganda on display in every media outlet controlled by the left was being shoved down our throats, one of our public servants was up to something even more sinister. It’s the old shell game—look at this hand while I fleece you with the other one.
While the federal government continues to work to limit the amount and type of weapons and ammunition private citizens can own, the Social Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security has purchased billions of rounds of ammunition—more than enough to shoot every American citizen five times—including hollow-point bullets so lethal they’re banned by the Geneva Convention.5 In addition, DHS ordered 2,700 light-armored tanks to complement the billion-bullet march toward its impending war against American citizens.6
When asked by members of Congress about the purchase of the ammunition, then-DHS secretary Janet Napolitano, aka “Big Sis,” declined to answer.7
Then, almost a year later, DHS put out a notice that it was seeking bids for its intended purchase of more ammo, in this case 141,000 rounds of the most powerful and efficient sniper bullets.
It gets worse. One of the firms DHS dealt with produces targets called “no more hesitation” that are used by agents in practice. Some of the depictions on these targets are of pregnant women, children, old folks in residential settings, and other “non-traditional threats.”8
At the same time, the Ohio National Guard is training its troops to target Second Amendment supporters with what they call “antigovernment” points of view. They call these patriots “domestic terrorists.” Earlier, the same National Guard unit participated in a similar drill that targeted left-wing terrorists. The unit apologized for having the bad judgment to target a left-wing political group, but there was no hint of an apology for the targeting of conservatives.9
I’m not sure that patriotic American citizens, like the ones in the crosshairs of the Department of Homeland Security and the Ohio National Guard, are aware of how dire this situation is. In his 2008 campaign speech, Obama told us that a U.S. government under his presidency should create a “civilian national security force that would be just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as our military.
What he didn’t say in his speech is that, as Abraham Lincoln had done at the time of the American Civil War, he envisioned this civilian military as his palace guard, policing our towns and our neighborhoods for any sign of insurrection against his assault on our fundamental freedoms.
If you think I’m exaggerating, consider this: The U.S. Army has a 300-acre site in Virginia where they practice a large-scale military takeover of an American city, which they’ve re-created. This “Anytown USA” contains a bank, a sports stadium, school, and even an underground transportation system that looks strikingly like the one in Washington, D.C. This fake town cost American taxpayers nearly $100 million.
A U.S. Army manual describes maneuvers like the ones practiced in the fake city as “Civil Disturbance Operations.” The manu
al also includes directions for internment camps and a guide for internees to be “re-educated” until they develop “an appreciation for U.S. policies.” This is what the Soviet Union did to its dissidents. An academic study that dovetails with the Army manual details the aggressive military response to an insurrection by Tea Party members who take over a town like the one built in Virginia.10
Do you realize what this means?
Do you realize the preparations that are being made by our federal government to stop any resistance to their increasingly dangerous and far-reaching denial of our civil rights?
The Savage Truth of the matter is that our government is preparing for nothing less than the next civil war. It’s marshalling forces to be used against the American people, but the very divisions that the government is creating are causing many Americans to think about what we must do to resist this government takeover.
This administration is doing everything it can to turn America into the world capital of illegal immigration. The Department of Homeland Security is under orders not to prosecute aliens who are in the country illegally and instead to open our borders to another wave of non-English-speaking illegal immigrants, many of whom will swell the rolls of an eternal welfare state and guarantee a Democratic-majority voting bloc while they continue to undermine our language and our culture.
Our president and the government agencies at his behest are doing everything they can to ensure that a wave of illegal immigrants continues to cross our southwestern border with Mexico. On top of that, they’re offering illegal aliens benefits that make them beholden to the Democratic Party for life. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, in conjunction with the Mexican government, has assured illegal immigrants in a Spanish-language brochure distributed in Mexico that their immigration status will not be checked when they apply for free food once they’re in the United States, and that they “need not divulge information regarding [their] immigration status” in order to receive food stamps.11
Obama suspended the deportation of millions of young illegal aliens by executive order because Congress would not pass the DREAM Act. His Justice Department refuses to enforce the antidrug laws in states with antimarijuana laws. His administrators have gutted federal welfare-for-work requirements by defining work in terms so convoluted, states have trouble interpreting the meaning of the word.
And you wonder why I get mad?
Through such acts as suspending the insurance mandate of the Affordable Care Act by executive order, Obama has effectively made the rule of law irrelevant in this country.
As one commentator has expressed it, Obamacare “is a perversely self-inflicted, man-made disaster that replaced the efficiency of the private markets with the tangle, confusion, and ideological bias of government bureaucracy.”12
This administration is making a blatant power grab. It makes virtually every decision on the basis of politics and not on the basis of the Constitution it’s pledged to uphold. Every agency of the administration is infected with this corruption and hunger for power.
From the policies and practices of Attorney General Eric Holder to former Health and Human Services secretary Kathleen Sebelius to “retired” director of the tax-exempt division of the IRS Lois Lerner, there is not a single policy or decision that is made for the reason it should be made. Every decision smacks of leftist politics and sympathy for America’s enemies both outside and inside this country. Every decision is made to carry out what I see as the administration’s true agenda: undermining America’s position as the most powerful nation in the world for the purpose of advancing the establishment of a global world order.
America’s Constitutional Crisis
Below is just a partial laundry list of this administration’s recent actions overriding the Constitution:
• The Labor Department issued a mandate in February 2013 that delayed the Affordable Care Act limits on individual health-care spending for a year, a procedure that requires legislative action.
• The administration explained in a blog post during the 2013 Fourth of July weekend that it was unilaterally delaying the employer mandate, again without congressional cooperation.
• In August 2013, the federal Office of Personnel Management issued a declaration of change to the Affordable Care Act that released congressmen and their staffs from having to buy their health insurance from the federal health-care exchanges.
• The Department of Education, in conjunction with Eric Holder’s Justice Department, issued an order to the University of Montana demanding that the school restrict freedom of speech. Among other things, it denied students their legal rights by suggesting that anyone violating the university’s speech codes be punished without having their cases heard before a committee of students.13
Eric Holder’s Justice Department, populated as it is with attorneys who have defended accused terrorists and other anti-American clients as they pressed their leftist agenda, consistently did everything in its power—and often well outside its power—to trample the rule of law.
Nothing has changed since Holder took office.
In fact, it’s gotten worse.
From our right to own property, to our religious freedom, to our ability to purchase and own stock, the Department of Justice has used every bit of its power to expand government and limit civil rights. In 2013 alone, the Supreme Court intervened and denied the Department of Justice’s arguments nine times.14
Let me give you some examples of what the Justice Department is still doing to deny us our civil rights.
For starters, it’s relentlessly prosecuting the administration’s political enemies.
Former Virginia governor Robert McDonnell has been indicted on charges of corruption, and an aggressive criminal investigation into the activities of New Jersey governor Chris Christie has been launched.
McDonnell is accused of corruption charges stemming from gifts he received from a Virginia businessman. The great treasure the governor is accused of taking amounts to about as much as they give you at a golf outing: golf shirts, clubs, and shoes. The former attorney general of Virginia—who’s a Democrat—conducted an in-depth investigation and found no crime had been committed. He called the whole matter “political niceties.”15
But Holder is going after McDonnell as if he’s a serial killer. If this isn’t a political witch hunt, I don’t know what is.
The real reason for Holder’s attack on McDonnell?
Before the “scandal” broke, he’d been a top contender to run against Hillary Clinton in 2016.
It’s the same reason the DoJ is going after Chris Christie. Christie appears to be another likely candidate to oppose Hillary Clinton, and the Democratic Party needs to do all it can to nip Christie’s potential candidacy in the bud.
And what’s Christie’s offense? Traffic on the George Washington Bridge. The DoJ goes after Chris Christie for traffic on a bridge that always has a traffic jam? I know that there were some issues that happened as a result of the traffic jam, but nothing resembling evidence that Christie was involved in making it happen has been presented. I grew up in New York City. I’ve driven over the George Washington Bridge countless times. I can count on one hand the times there weren’t cars lined up bumper-to-bumper at the toll plaza in Fort Lee. Instead of inventing crises over which to investigate politicians of the opposing party, investigate the real crises, the real corruption that is occurring all around us.
Holder’s Department of Justice does not defend the law of the land; it holds itself above the law. When he was questioned in a congressional hearing about the legal and constitutional basis on which the president had delayed the employer mandate of the Affordable Care Act, he couldn’t come up with an answer. Looking confused, he stammered, “I’ll be honest with you, I have not seen… I don’t remember looking at or having seen the analysis in some time, so I’m not sure where along the spectrum that would come.”16
When he was questioned about the fact that he appointed Barbara Bosserman—a Justi
ce Department trial attorney who just happens to be an Obama political donor—to head the investigation into the IRS targeting of conservative political groups, Holder showed his inadequacy as a liar: “I don’t know anything about the political activities of any of the people who are involved in this investigation.”17
More than ten thousand attorneys work at the Department of Justice. And Holder wants us to believe that it just so happened that the one he picked was also the best possible candidate to protect the administration’s political interests?
Let me ask you, how many months have passed since the IRS targeting of conservative groups was exposed? And in that time, how much have you heard about the federal investigation? How many people have been indicted? How many have been fired? Has there been one single action taken to get to the bottom of this extremely important case?18 Don’t bother to look it up. I’ll save you the time. There hasn’t been any.
And in the meantime, all the e-mails that Lois Lerner sent during the time the targeting of conservative groups was going on have suddenly, nearly a year later, been found to have gone missing!19
After True the Vote founder Catherine Englebrecht applied for tax-exempt status, she received no fewer than fifteen visits from four different federal agencies over a two-year span. The IRS audited Englebrecht’s personal and business tax returns four times. She was questioned over and over about her political beliefs.20
Our rights are being trampled, and the top lawyer in the land claims he doesn’t know the law or the political affiliation of the people he appoints to uphold the law.
