He’d never been more sure of anything.
“To us,” he rasped and raised the bottle to his mouth.
The sweet wine filled his head and coated his taste buds. When she took it from him, he expected her to drink but instead, she set the bottle on the floor and closed the door still hanging open behind her.
He held out his arms, and she stepped into them, fitting her body to his like a piece of an unfinished puzzle. He scooped her up in his arms and strode to the bed. An urgency rose inside him, and he needed to claim her—now. In this moment, solidifying everything that had been exchanged here tonight.
He kissed her tenderly. He stripped her slowly. But when she slid down his body to take his cock in her mouth, he couldn’t go slow anymore. With a growl, he dragged her back up his body and pinned her under him. The condom took seconds to don, but it was far too long in his mind.
With a harsh groan, he joined them. She slipped her thighs around his hips and arched into his every stroke. Their mouths melded and soft words burst out.
“Need you…”
“Never want anyone else.”
“Love you, Case. I don’t know how. It happened so fast.”
“Christmas miracles, sweetheart.” He grinned down into her eyes and thrust harder, faster. “Damn, I love you too.”
When he felt her tightening rhythmically around him, need blasted up from the base of his spine. His motions grew jerky as he came unhinged. She shuddered as her release hit, and he wasn’t a second behind. With a rough growl, he came. Churning his hips as each wave stole all thought and he only felt.
The first thing he heard when his heart stopped drumming so loud in his ears was Annabelle’s squeak. He looked down at her.
“Can’t… breathe. Too heavy.”
He chuckled and rolled off, taking her with him and plastering her against his side. She tugged the blankets up over them, drawing them into a private cocoon of warmth.
“I wish the wine wasn’t so far away,” she whispered. “My throat’s parched.”
“I’ll get it if you want.”
“No, don’t. I’m too comfortable.” She rested a hand on his chest as if restraining him. But he wasn’t going anywhere. With a beautiful woman who loved him tucked against his side, he never wanted to leave.
He brushed his fingers over her side, raising goosebumps on her sensitive skin that made him smile. “We’ll have to get more wine so we can ring in the New Year this way.”
She made a humming noise that had him aroused all over again. “We may need to get a few more bottles, actually.”
He caught her gaze and held it. “Why’s that?”
“Because we might have something else to celebrate.”
He waited, but he wasn’t very patient. “What is it?”
A private smile claimed her plumps lips. Her eyelids lowered over her cheeks as she traced a finger over the whorls of hair on his chest. “Yesterday I went to Charlotte’s house and borrowed an outfit.”
His brows drew together. “Okay?”
“An interview outfit.”
His heart stopped for what felt like a full minute before he drew breath again. The circled ad in the newspaper, her silence at dinner that night and the looks she kept shooting Charlotte all added up to make him the happiest man in the world.
He pushed onto an elbow to hover over her. “Tell me what happened.”
“I met with the superintendent and a few others on the school board. Nothing’s official yet, and they need to interview more people, but it felt good, Case.”
“Did they say when they’ll make their choice?” He was suddenly energized, burning to get up and dance around the room with her in the wreath of his arms.
“In the next month or so. In the meantime…” She cradled his jaw, running her thumb back and forth over the scratchy growth of his beard. “You can use the razor I gave you and then get on and video chat with me when I go back to Illinois.”
“Why would I want to shave for that? I want you to know what you’re missin’ out on here.” He ducked his head and ran his chin between her breasts, making his way down between her legs.
On a gasp, she said, “We only have to make it to spring break, Case.”
“Then I’d better get my fill of you now, sweetheart.” He lowered his mouth between her thighs and it was all history.
