The Promise Page 24

by Natalie Clarke

They all take turns holding the baby before they too leave us.

Lucas is curled up on the chair in the corner of the room asleep, his head resting on his arms on the arm of the chair. Isla is asleep in her crib by the side of the bed, where she makes little mewls in her sleep every now and again.

“Zach?” Gwen asks, her head resting on my chest as she tucks herself into the side of my body.

  “Yeah, baby.”

  “Does your proposal still stand?”

  I smile. “Absolutely.”

She shifts so she can look at me directly. “Can you ask me again?”

I clear my throat. “Gwen, will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?”

She beams. “Yes. I'll marry you.”

I lean forward and capture her mouth with mine. “I love you,” I murmur against her lips.

  “I love you too.”

I narrow my eyes slightly. “You still want me to get that vasectomy?”

Gwen snorts a laugh. “If you promise to give me another baby as beautiful as the one asleep over there, then I’ll let you off the hook.”

  “I promise.”

  Author Notes and Acknowledgements

Well, book two is complete! I can't believe it!

I never planned to write this book, but Gwen and Zach’s story was calling to me and I just couldn’t leave it alone. I loved writing this book so much, exploring Gwen and Zach, and I’m so sad it’s all over.

I had intended for Aaron and Eva’s novella to be next, but I’m working in something that has me so excited, I had to start writing it straight away, so Aaron’s story will just have to wait a little longer.

I just want to thank everyone who has supported me since I began writing back in May 2020. Any author will tell you that writing is not easy, and the constant support I’ve had has been incredible.

To the Instagram community who are always there supporting one another, you guys are the best.

To all of you bookstagrammers out there who have read, reviewed and shared my book with others, you have helped make this possible. Thank you!

Thank you also to Marissa, my beta reader, you're an absolute star. I can't thank you enough for all your help.

Of course, I have to mention my best friend in the world, Meghan. Thank you so much for supporting me through this journey. Love you, Angel!

If you enjoyed reading The Promise, it would mean the world to me if you could leave me a review on Goodreads and Amazon.

  The Game

  Hayley

When I stepped foot in the Royal Hotel, I had no idea that my life would be about to change forever when I come face to face with the only man who quickens my heart, the only man who has the power to steal the breath from my lungs. He’s tall, dark and unbelievably handsome. I’m drawn to him like a magnet, sucked in by his gravity.

  Kyle

I always get what I want, and she is no exception. When I offer her father a deal he can’t refuse, I had no idea my little game would turn out like this, that from now on my heart would beat only for her. She’s the light at the very end of this long, lonely tunnel of darkness I’m currently traveling through, she’s the only one who can guide me out.

What starts out as just a game for Kyle, a way to get close to Hayley, spirals into a love so strong it sweeps them both off their feet, drawing them together in a way they could never have foreseen. But fate has a cruel sense of humour, so when it ties them together in the cruellest possible way, lies and secrets threaten their love.

Who knew that one little game had such high stakes, stakes that could cost them their relationship?

**Intended for readers 18+ due to sexual content and possible triggers. This book features some scenes of sexual assault, gambling addiction and suicide references so could be sensitive to some readers.**
