The Brazen Amazon Page 34

Artair cleared his throat loud enough to break through the sensual haze. Soft laughter surrounded them as she slowly released him.

“I love the purple in your hair better than the flowers.” Zach gently tousled her bangs.

“Now we may proceed with your vows.” Ix Chel’s voice was soft yet commanding.

When had the goddess arrived? Gina’s face flushed hot, and the quiet laughter coming from all of her sisters and both Sentinels didn’t help calm her embarrassment.

  “Yeah, we can get going.”

Rebecca, Megan and Sarita moved to stand to Gina’s left while the Sentinels, Richard and Jory flanked Zach.

With a smile, Zach reached for her hand.

Three pops sounded behind them, and everyone turned to see Rhiannon, Freya and Ganga.

Gina had a quick flashback to their ill-timed appearance at Rebecca and Artair’s wedding.

“Are we in time?” Rhiannon asked.

“That would depend,” Ix Chel answered, coming from behind the altar. “What did you wish to be in time to accomplish? Should you wish to prevent my Air from marrying—”

“Nay, nay,” Freya replied. “We wished to watch the ceremony. Three Amazons in one generation to marry. How fortuitous. An event we must share.” She flashed a smile at her daughter, and Megan replied in kind.

“Come then.” Ix Chel waved them forward. “Let us bind these two together.”

Before she turned back to Zach, Gina tried to take hold of Sarita’s hand. She could feel the heaviness settling over her sister’s heart. Not because Gina had found happiness, but because Sarita felt that kind of happiness would always elude her.

Sarita pulled her long hair over her right cheek, hiding some of the ragged scar that now ran across her face—a gift from Sekhmet that would follow Sarita through the rest of her life. Not that Sarita had ever been vain, but the scar embarrassed her, making her feel flawed—something she couldn’t conceal from Gina.

Sarita’s sorrow weighed on her, and she wanted to comfort her sister.

Ganga beat her to the punch. She held tight to Water’s hand and whispered softly in her ear. The pain seemed to ease.

  “Gina?” Zach whispered. “You ready?”

“Ready? I’ve been ready since the moment I saw you.”

As the full moon began its rise, shedding its eerie light over them, Zach and Gina were married.

After they sealed their vows with a kiss, she smiled. “I’ve got you now, Zach Hanson.”

His laughter filled her heart. “And this time, you didn’t need handcuffs.”
