Lovely Revenge Page 23

I raked my fingers through his thick, brown hair, closing my eyes and enjoying him have his way with me. Soon my nipples disappeared into his mouth and he sucked them, making them hard, at times only barely touching them with the tip of his tongue.

Soon he stood back up and lifted me up so that I ended up sitting on the marble island in his kitchen. Meeting my eyes again, his hands moved down to my hips and, slowly, teasingly, he pulled off my panties, sinking down to his knees. He threw the panties aside and spread my legs wide apart to get the view of me I knew he so desired.

I shivered with pleasure as he ran a light finger back and forth along my already wet center. He seemed unable to remove his gaze from this part of me. I found that to be an incredible turn-on.

I gasped as he made me wetter and wetter with his finger alone.

Then, finally, he tilted his head backward and our eyes locked again. “You’re so beautiful,” he said simply. Then he returned his attention to my now considerable wetness. Leaning in, he smelled me. “I can’t get enough of how good you smell,” he muttered. Spreading my legs even wider, he licked my clit ever so lightly, slowly, over and over, making me tremble with excitement.

“And you taste so good. I could stay down here forever.” He buried his tongue inside me then, moving it in and out. Massaging my sensitive nub with his thumb, he moved it in small, precise circles that made me grab the island counter’s edges so hard my knuckles turned white it felt so good.

“Oh, God, that feels incredible, Chase,” I gasped, surprised I was able to get the words out I was in such ecstasy right then.

“Well, this will feel even better,” he mumbled and began flicking his tongue over my clit again at the same time as he inserted a finger inside me and found that elusive spot. He kept eating me as he kept hitting that spot deep, deep inside me that no one else had ever found. His tongue became more insistent, and his finger was firmer, more determined in its erotic probing.

Then, out of nowhere, I came hard, arching my back and throwing my head backward. I moaned out loud with rapture, pressing his face to my core, refusing to let him go as wave after wave of pleasure surged through me. It was such an intense sensation I felt like I had become electrified and was floating around in some sort of dreamland I didn’t want to leave. But soon the intensity of the feeling lessened and I came back down to earth. I let go of Chase’s head and opened my eyes that I had clenched shut.

Wiping his face, he let go of my knees that he’d pressed apart. Then he looked up at me and grinned, appearing even more pleased with what we had both just experienced than I was.

“Did you like that?” he asked.

I gave him a lazy smile back and nodded, bringing my legs together again. I was determined not to let the discomfort that had been with me the entire day show. Despite that the orgasm had made me relax, this uneasiness was still there.

Chase had been acting weird ever since we woke up this Sunday morning in his bed, a week after Chrissy had confessed and fallen to her death. Nick’s bullet had only hit her in the shoulder and so wouldn’t have killed her. It was the breaking of her neck when she’d hit the track that had taken care of that.

I knew why he’d been acting this way all day. This was it between us. He was going to tell me that he didn’t want to continue this little relationship we had embarked upon so unexpectedly. It had been nice, but now it was over. But since he wasn’t a jerk after all, he wanted it all to end on a high note, which was why he had given me this incredible oral gift. Even if it did seem like he had enjoyed it, too, the pleasure had surely mostly been mine.

I took a deep, quiet breath to steady myself when he cleared his throat and adjusted his jeans. I had promised myself that I wouldn’t cry when he told me. It would be okay. I would be okay. I could handle him dumping me.

But instead of beginning to talk as I had expected, he took my hand and looked up at me with a solemn face.

What is he doing? Why is he still down there on the floor?

It was only then that I saw the little black box in his other hand. I stared at it as he flipped it open, displaying a beautiful diamond ring in white gold or platinum with turquoise accents. He must have gotten the box from his pants when I thought he’d just rearranged his junk or something.

“I love you, Elisa,” he said as he gazed at me, his voice a touch unsteady. “I know you’re the one for me. I’ve never felt as sure of anything in my life as that. Will you marry me?”

I must have looked completely dumbfounded because a frown appeared in Chase’s forehead then. I was completely dumbfounded. I felt like I was just dreaming.

“Well,” he said, looking unsure now, lowering the ring box. “If you want to think about it, just let me know.” The uncertainty in his face turned to pain then. “Or, if you already know that you don’t want to, it’s okay to just say so.”

I finally got a grip on myself and slid down the island and squatted like he was doing. This wasn’t a dream; it was happening for real. Why had I been so scared that he’d dump me when we were so clearly meant for each other? I threw my arms around his neck and kissed him on the mouth.

“No, I do want to marry you,” I said and grinned so big my face hurt. “Yes, I do! I feel you’re the one for me too. I was just so shocked to see that ring in your hand. I was honestly expecting for you to break up with me right now.”

He looked at me like I was crazy. “Really? Whatever gave you that idea?”

I shrugged. “I don’t know. It was just a feeling that I had. But clearly I was wrong, so let’s just forget about that.” My eyes found the ring. I took it out of the box and put it on my ring finger and admired it. It was an extraordinarily beautiful ring. Then again, I would expect no less from a metrosexual guy like Chase… He definitely had good taste.

“Do you like it?” he asked, not sounding as convinced of his exquisite taste himself.

I smiled at him. “I love it.”

“I’m glad. Gabi helped me pick it out this past week. She thought you’d like this kind of ring. But I was the one who wanted it to have the little turquoise stones in it. It made me think of your pretty eyes.”

“I really love that part. It’s truly gorgeous.” I held out my hand in front of myself to admire it some more. As I was about to continue to gush about how much I adored it, my smartphone rang.

I looked at Chase. I wasn’t sure I wanted to interrupt this special moment. “Should I let that go to voicemail?”

“No, answer it,” he replied and gave me a quick kiss. “You and I have our whole lives together after you hang up.”

I smiled at him and ran to get my phone that I’d left on the dining table when we got home from a walk and immediately got hot and heavy with each other.

Speaking of the devil. Gabi was calling.

“Hi there,” I said, still with a grin on my lips. I was literally unable to wipe it off my face. “What’s going on?”

“We found out who planted the snake in your closet,” she replied.

Okay, that did it. My face went completely serious. The LAPD had been investigating the snake incident since the day after Chrissy died and Gabi and I made a formal report. We hadn’t done one earlier because all of us had been so sure Chrissy had been behind it.

“Who?” I asked, gripping the phone tightly.

“Does the name Tara McDougal ring a bell?”

Tara… Chrissy’s best friend and the other bully. Another person who I knew had hated me with passion ever since I humiliated the two of them by telling on them in high school. She had also known the security alarm code … But how had she known that I had even been in L.A.? And had she done this in conjunction with Chrissy? Oh, God, please don’t tell me there are more parts to this puzzle. I honestly can’t take any more. The hair on my arms stood up as I considered the possibility.

I asked Gabi all the questions in my mind.

“I’m pretty sure she had no idea what Chrissy was up to,” Gabi replied. “They’re int
errogating her at the station right now and it didn’t take long until she fell apart and confessed everything. It doesn’t seem like she’s spoken to Chrissy in years. But she apparently happened to be at the airport the day we all arrived. And saw and heard you speak to your mother. That’s when she decided to try to get a little revenge in on what you did to her in high school.”

“Wow…” I could hardly believe it. But it made perfect sense. After all, Tara had been as much of a sociopath as Chrissy back then, so I didn’t think she’d changed much today. I felt much better after having heard Gabi’s answers. It had been a separate incident then, unrelated to Chrissy.

“But how did you even find out it was her?” I asked.

“It took a while, but eventually they were able to discern all the fingerprints on the metal box you have to press to turn off the alarm to your house. I remembered that you had mentioned her name, so I asked your mother for the last name and then we had her arrested so we could take her fingerprints. After that it didn’t take long before she confessed everything.”

Well, obviously Tara wasn’t as good at covering her tracks as all the other criminals we’d dealt with lately… Thank God for that.

“Did she put the snake in my closet herself?” I asked.

“That’s what she claims. She’d bought it from some guy in the area who collects snakes.”

“But how come it didn’t attack her?”

“Apparently, it was drugged for several hours, so she had nothing to worry about when she dealt with it.”

  “Ah.”

We spoke some more before finally hanging up. Chase came up to me.

“You found out who was behind the snake?” he asked, putting a hand around my shoulders.

“Yup,” I said and told him everything I had just learned.

He shook his head in disbelief. Then he sighed. “Well, let’s hope you don’t have any more psycho friends who want to get back at you.”

  I laughed. “I’m pretty sure that’s it.”

  ***

A couple of weeks later, the day after the engagement party Chase and I had thrown in L.A., Nina and I decided to go visit Hannah in the Rose Hills Memorial Park. Nina had wanted her best friend Ricki to come along, so I had suggested that we invite Gabi to come, too. Nina had instantly agreed, adding that the visit wouldn’t really feel complete without Gabi. She had after all been a crucial component in taking down both Chrissy and Tara.

The four of us girls were now standing in front of the sizeable but very tasteful white stone mausoleum in which the remains of the person who used to be Nina’s best friend in high school rested forever. Unlike Nina, who’d only ended up in a coma for a couple of days and with a concussion, Hannah had ultimately died from the brutal beating the two had suffered ten years ago.

Several wealthy people attached to our school—primarily parents of the many girls involved in the beating—had donated all the money it had taken to build and maintain the beautiful burial chamber. Maybe this way they hoped to relieve some of the guilt we all kept feeling. I supposed it was better than having done nothing at all.

Even though my own family had donated a significant amount of money, I know it hadn’t done much to relieve my own guilt.

But today as I stood there with Nina, Gabi, and Ricki, I felt a little better as I thought of how Hannah had ended up. We all placed our big bouquets of flowers on the mausoleum’s two long stairs. After all, I had finally made Chrissy, even Tara pay for what they had done. And, while unintended, it had been a lovely revenge indeed.

  The End

LOVELY REVENGE is the last installment of the L.A. Girls Romance Series. The first three books are TRIGGER, LOVE CURSED and UNDERCOVER LOVERS. The series follows the steamy love lives of four different girls from Los Angeles—Nina, Ricki, Gabi, and Elisa. While interconnected, the novels don't have to be read in order, though I recommend that you start with TRIGGER, Nina's story.

Thank you for reading LOVELY REVENGE. If you enjoyed it, please recommend it to a friend or write a review on Amazon, Barnes & Noble.com or Goodreads.
