  “I’m sorry, Mother.”

Gemini smiled at Magnuss and shook her head.

“I think you need to apologize to Gerunda, not me, don’t you?” The little boy’s face fell and he shifted on his feet. “Yes, Mother. I’m sorry, Gerunda.”

“And?” Gemini asked, her tone of voice stern, even as her lips curled up into a half smile.

“I won’t do it again?” Magnuss said.

  “Make sure you don’t!”

Magnuss flinched at the reprimand and then flew into Gemini’s outstretched arms for his morning cuddle. No matter how many times he witnessed the bond between his little wife and his son, it never ceased to form a lump in Ornack’s throat, and he swallowed hard to get a grip on his emotions.

Gemini smiled at him over the head of the little boy and dropped a kiss on his hair.

“Now scoot. I’ll see you later.”

  “Yes, Mother, sorry, Mother.”

Magnuss bounced off the bed and past a tired looking Gerunda, and Gemini snuggled back into Ornack’s chest.

“Maybe we should get Gerunda some help? She is looking more and more tired these days. I worry about her.”

  Ornack sighed in agreement.

“I agree, but the last time I suggested she needed help, she didn’t talk to me for weeks. I don’t think I could handle that silent treatment again. It’s worse than torture.”

Gemini giggled and he flipped her over until he had her pinned underneath him. Her amusement fled when he cupped her pussy and slid two fingers into her wet heat.

“Amusing is it? Well, let’s see what we can do about this. Such a naughty girl I’ve married.”

A moan slipped from Gemini’s lips when he added a third finger and settled his thumb on her clit.

“Only for you, Sir.” She gasped, and he grinned down at her.

“Nonetheless, the fact remains that you were laughing at me, and this,” he pulled his fingers out of her and aligned his dick with her pussy instead. “This is all your fault.” The breath whooshed out of her lungs when he thrust in deep, and he bit back a groan. Morning sex had become a firm favorite with both of them, and he gritted his teeth against the sensations of her hot, slick walls, grabbing his cock. His Gemini was an eager little thing, he’d discovered, and she liked the bite of pain as he forced her sensitive tissues to take all of him.

“We can’t have that, Sir.” She panted the words and beads of perspiration dotted her brow, as he fed the last few inches of his cock into her cunt. Her walls gripped him, and a rush of her juices aided the last slow drag until his balls hit her ass.

“You’re so fucking tight for me this morning, wife. So good, so fucking good.” He withdrew and thrust home again, and Gemini’s eyes fluttered shut as pleasure overtook her. Ornack loved to watch her fall apart, loved the little sounds and mewls she didn’t even seem aware of making, as her pussy gripped and released around his dick. She never refused him. Not once since the night he’d finally claimed her a month ago, did she ever not come for him. Her obvious enjoyment of their lovemaking had soothed the festering sore inside his heart that Augustina had left. The one that had made him wonder at his skills as a lover, of females at least.

She had been astounded to learn that he hadn’t slept with a female since Magnuss’s mother had been killed, and she had given herself with a renewed tender eagerness that had made him fall in love with her a little bit more.

“Oh god, I’m so close. Please…“

He stepped up his efforts at her breathless plea into his ear, and when he added his thumb to her clit Gemini flew, but it wasn’t enough. He needed more this morning. Ornack withdrew out of her viselike grip and, flipping her over, pulled her down the bed until her ass was hung off it and her knees rested on the fur rug on the stone floor. He grasped the cheeks of her ass, and Gemini clenched her fingers into the covers. Ornack spread her glorious cheeks and she dutifully opened her legs wider to enable him to taste the juices spilling from her cunt. Lapping at them, he enjoyed the taste of his woman and then licked up to her little puckered hole. She clenched around him when he pushed against the tight ring, and groaned, as his tongue slid in.

  “Please, Sir…I need you.”

Ornack withdrew and, taking more of her own moisture, used it to lubricate her nether hole. He indulged himself by smacking her ass cheeks several times in quick succession, and Gemini grew wetter still. The blood rushed to the surface of her pale skin, and seeing his hand prints on her butt gave him a high as a surge of power shot through him. He needed this, needed the rush sex gave him, for he was called into action. He hadn’t told Gemini this yet, hadn’t wanted to worry her, but this time he couldn’t, wouldn’t stay out of the fight. Not when it involved Zorran.

He thrust into her pussy once to slather himself in her juices and then rubbed his dick up to her other hole. Ornack grunted under his breath as he pushed against the tight ring of muscle, and Gemini opened and pushed back against him with a moan. He slid all the way into paradise and, smacking her ass again, he thrust deep and then withdrew. Already his orgasm built at the base of his spine and he thrust harder, deeper, until Gemini’s clenching muscles around his shaft told him she, too, was tumbling over. Only then did he allow his own orgasm to rip through him. He emptied himself into the tight clasp of her ass and roared with the intense surge of power that lifted him off his feet.

Collapsing back on the bed, he lay there, catching his breath, dimly aware of Gemini snuggling in next to him.

“Is everything okay?” she asked and he flung his hand over his eyes and groaned. “That was pretty intense.”

The worry behind those few words made him look at her.

“I didn’t hurt you, did I?” he asked, and she shook her head.

“Not more than I wanted you to, but this…Something happened, right? Please tell me.”

Ornack sighed and pulled her down for a kiss that left her breathlessly clinging to him, and made him wish he didn’t have to do this to her.

“I love you,” he said, resting his forehead against hers. “You don’t have to say it back to me. I just needed to say it at least once before—”

“Before what?” Gemini thumped him in the chest and did his best to glare at him. The effect was somewhat tempered by her deliciously disheveled look, however, and he grinned.

“Don’t you dare laugh at me. What’s happened? Tell me.”

Ornack’s amusement fled and he framed Gemini’s beloved face in his hands.

“Our settlements are under attack. I have to go and join the fight to protect them, especially as…” He let his words trail off, as the pain of the betrayal took his breath away.

Gemini didn’t press him. She simply sat and waited as tears filled her eyes and a shudder went through her. “It’s Zorran, he—”

She thumped him again and shook her head.

“He wouldn’t. He couldn’t. Not here,” she said, and Ornack swore.

“He’s been spotted, and we have a prisoner that swears blind the attacks were Zorran’s idea. Heldar is most—”

“No, you can’t trust Heldar. He hates Zorran, has done since the day Zorran stopped him from raping me as a child. I know Zorran. You know him. He wouldn’t attack settlements with children, he wouldn’t.”

Her voice had risen to a shrill shriek, and Ornack winced.

“I know, Gem, I’ve had this same argument with myself over and over, but we cannot ignore the evidence. And regardless I have to go and stop whoever is responsible, be it Zorran or someone else.”

Tears spilled from Gemini’s eyes, and she nodded and pulled him closer until they clung to each other.

“I know you do, but please come back to me. I couldn’t stand to lose you, too. We need you, Magnuss and I. We all need you. I love you. Dammit, this isn’t fair.”

Ornack’s power surged anew at those three little words he never thought to hear from her lips, and she smiled through her tears when she noticed.

  “Say that again,
little one,” he said.

“I love you, Ornack with all my heart and soul, and you better come back to me in one piece.”

  * * * *

It was a deceptively beautiful day, and Gemini threw a stone into the lake. It sunk like a dead weight, and she picked up another one and tried again. In her mind’s eye she could hear Ornack and Magnuss laughing at her attempts and she smiled through her tears.

It had been three weeks since Ornack had left, and the missive that he was missing, presumed captured had arrived two days ago. For the first time since Ornack had left and Magnuss and the other children had been spirited away to a secret location in the mountains in case of a Cirrion attack, Gemini was glad the little boy hadn’t been there.

It meant no one but Gerunda had been there to witness her breakdown. He couldn’t be dead. He just couldn’t. She’d feel something, wouldn’t she?

The settlement was too quiet without the children underfoot, and Gemini glared at the flawless blue sky. It hid a multitude of sins. Living here under Ornack’s protection, she had almost forgotten about the war that raged out there in the galaxy, about the fact that to all intents and purposes Zorran was the enemy. Her life on Cirrion seemed a long time ago, her life on earth as though it had never happened at all. Unbidden, her mother’s image swam into her mind, and Gemini wished with all her might that she was still around.

What would her ever-practical mother make of Gemini’s life now? A black dot appeared over the mountain peak, and Gemini froze. They weren’t expecting visitors and with her out in the open like this she would be a sitting duck for the incoming Cirrion ship. And it was Cirrion. The arrogance of this lone ship’s captain was staggering, as it swooped in to land in an aggressive dive that held all of Zorran’s trademarks. Gemini waved the two young Drakans come to defend her away, as the ship landed in a cloud of dust.

As though she had willed him here with the force of her mind, Zorran appeared at the entrance. Uncloaked, and in full Cirrion battle armor, he cut a deadly figure against the back drop of the clear blue sky and the peaceful lake. His ashen skin color was unusual, and it made the blood he was covered in even more pronounced. Despite the situation, her heart beat faster and she half lifted her hand in greeting when he ducked back into the ship and reappeared with Ornack slung over his shoulder. Gemini screamed in horror.

  Chapter Nine

Zorran drank in Gemini’s fragile beauty. Life on Drakan clearly suited her. Even covered in Ornack’s blood, with her pale face drawn tight in worry, she looked so beautiful it hurt to look at her. It hurt to look at Ornack even more. His usually vibrant golden color had dimmed to a dull grey, and his labored breathing barely raised his chest.

Gerunda ran her hands over his body in the ancient art of healing, but the massive gash down his side was not healing, and the poison the Cirrion torturer had used to extract information was spreading through his bloodstream at alarming rates. The smell of impending death filled the room and Gerunda stopped her chant and sighed.

“Why are you stopping?” Gemini’s voice was laced with tears, and when the old woman didn’t answer her, she took Gerunda by the shoulders and shook her. “Don’t stop. He’s still bleeding. You’ve got to heal him. You’ve got to.”

Gerunda gently extricated herself from Gemini’s desperate grasp, and shook her head.

“There’s nothing I can do for him now.”

“No, no, I don’t believe you. He promised, dammit, he promised me. I can’t lose him.” Gemini threw herself on top of Ornack and hugged him close as though she could will him to hang on. Ornack’s breathing did even out and his fingers flickered as though he could hear her, and maybe he could.

The mating bond was strong and there was no doubt that these two were mated. His mark on her shoulder proclaimed that as loudly as Ornack’s scent that seemed to permeate from her pores. It had carried to Zorran on the breeze when he’d stood on the landing plank of his ship, and he’d known then that it had been the right thing to do to bring Ornack back to his people.

Zorran had been too late to save the Drakan from the worst of the Cirrion torture, but he had managed to get Ornack out of there. There had been no time to cloak his ship or himself, and he knew that any minute soon, Drakan elite guards would come to hunt him down.

Gemini had screamed at him to leave, to run and save himself, once he’d carried the unconscious Ornack up to his bed chamber, but he’d refused.

“Where would I go, girl? I’m not welcome on Cirrion anymore, and I’m not leaving here until I know whether he’ll pull through. I’m done with running away.”

Gemini had slapped his face with such force that his head had spun round and the two young Drakans had drawn their weapons to defend their lady.

“You chose a fine time to remember that.”

She’d chosen to ignore his presence from there on in, and he’d stayed in the shadows, unwilling to tear himself away from either one of the two people he loved most in this godforsaken world. Too fucking bad he realized what an ass he was being too late.

Ornack had told him to stay, to make a life here on Drakan with him and their human, and Zorran had refused to even entertain that notion, and now—now it was all too little too late. He’d failed them both.

Gerunda resumed her quiet chanting, and he stepped up to the bed to pull Gemini out of the way. Much to his surprise she let him and his ears burned hot when she turned, wrapped her arms around his midriff, and clung to him like the vines decorating the brick work of the castle.

“Don’t let her stop. He’s got to heal. He’s got to.” His chest grew wet with her hot tears and he hugged her back as Gerunda sought his gaze. The way her eyes seemed to see straight into his soul had always unnerved him.

“You love my Lord Ornack?” The quiet words weren’t a question but a statement and Gemini tensed in his arms and pushed away from him. Arms wrapped around her middle she looked from Gerunda to him and then to Ornack.

She gasped when he inclined his head to Gerunda in answer, and bit her lips so hard she drew blood. The coppery scent mixed in with the heavier odor of Ornack’s blood loss and brought home the gravity of the situation.

“My Lord Ornack, he has marked you?” Gerunda asked and again he inclined his head. Gemini startled when Gerunda clapped her hands and laughed.

“Good, then you must cement this mating bond now between all of you. It’s his only chance. It might just work, but we must do this now, before the poison reaches his heart.”

Gemini ground her teeth and growled. It was the sexiest sound ever, and Zorran felt himself harden in response. There was the fighting spirit he knew she possessed.

“What the fuck are you talking about? Look at him. He can’t have sex now, he’s half-dead.” Her voice broke on the last few words, and she choked back tears.

“No, he can’t, but we can help him to do so,” Zorran said, and she spun round to face him. Her gaze dipped to his groin and he didn’t even try to cover up his raging hard-on. Just the thought of mating sent a surge of power through him and the injury to his shoulder he’d been sporting hurt less.

“If this is some cheap trick to—”

“It’s no trick, my dear.” Gerunda’s quiet voice stopped her and Gemini shook her head in seeming disbelief.

“This is an ancient ritual that had fallen out of practice, mainly because there are so few Drakan females available nowadays. A mated couple’s bite will aid in the healing process. Now, you, my dear do not have the required fangs for this to work, but Zorran has.”

“Well, woop de bloody doo for Zorran.” Gemini glared at him, and Gerunda smiled. Zorran’s lips, too, curved into a grin. Gemini projected her feelings loud and clear right now. His little human was jealous.

“What we need to do, is for Zorran to bite Ornack, while you, my dear, take My Lord Ornack into your body. He needs to spill his seed inside you, for this to work.”

Heat climbed into Gemini’s cheeks at the suggestion, but she gathered up h
er skirts and climbed on top of the high bed Ornack lay on. Zorran caught a brief glimpse of her bare cunt as she straddled Ornack, and his mouth went dry when she tugged down the other man’s tunic and freed his cock.

She frowned at it and bent to take the broad tip into her mouth while wrapping her hands around Ornack’s girth and balls. Zorran groaned under his breath, when Ornack slowly hardened. The sight of Gemini’s head bobbing up and down on Ornack’s dick was so erotic that he felt fit to bursting himself. His fangs descended, and he sat down at the top end of the bed, where he could watch Gemini work Ornack’s prick with unerring precision. Slick with her saliva, Ornack’s cock disappeared into her mouth time and again, and even when she gagged on his length, Gemini kept going.

“Bite him now,” Gerunda said. “And my lady needs to ride my Lord Ornack once he has been bitten.”

Gemini’s frightened gaze sought his, and without breaking eye contact, he sank his fangs into the fleshy part of Ornack’s shoulder. A shudder went through Ornack’s still frame, and the taste of death invaded Zorran’s mouth as Ornack’s poisoned blood flowed into him. Gemini grasped the base of the Drakan’s now fully erect dick and held it against her pussy lips.

Zorran sucked harder as she lowered herself inch by slow inch, the sight of Ornack’s prick disappearing into her cunt sweet agony to watch. A moan slipped from her lips, and once she was completely impaled on Ornack’s cock, she rocked against him. Slowly, Ornack responded, and Gemini gasped when Ornack thrust up into her. She rode him faster, as Ornack’s body shook and electricity sparked between the three of them. The faster she rocked, the harder Zorran sucked, transferring his own life energy to his lover, until he felt quite dizzy. Blood rushed in his ears, and he shut his eyes against the blinding pain that seemed intent on crushing his skull, only dimly aware of Ornack’s muffled grunt, and Gemini’s scream of completion.
