This time, she swiped at the tears because they obstructed her vision of his perfect face. “Yes,” she whispered. “Yes, I will be your wife. Nothing would make me happier. I love you so much, Houston.”
Of course the ring fit perfectly. She’d have expected nothing less from him. Rosanna couldn’t stop gazing at it, until he lifted her to her feet and pulled her close. “I have never been this happy.”
“Neither have I.” She had never believed she deserved such a life. Not until this man showed her what it meant to really love, and be loved in return. He had freed her from her past, and given her a reason to look forward to the future. And she would spend every second of the rest of her life, making sure he knew how very, very much she loved him.
Chapter Twenty-Six
One year later…
“That’s the last of it.” Rosanna and Houston stepped back and admired their handiwork on the wallpaper they’d finished hanging in the bedroom of their new home. The room would soon become a nursery. “What do you think?”
“I hope you’re right and she’s a girl.” He grinned at her, patting her still-flat abdomen. “Otherwise, our son is going to hate these grinning unicorns and pink, fluffy kittens as soon as he’s old enough to process what’s hanging on his walls.”
“You’re such a sexist.” She laughed. “We’re having a daughter. I saw her face in my dreams.”
“My wife, the psychic baby whisperer.”
Turning to face him, she put her arms around him and snuggled close to his warm body. “I still have moments where I think I don’t deserve this.”
“I do, too, babe. I don’t exactly have a great history with marriage or children.”
“That’s all changed now.”
“Yes.” He gazed at her with such tenderness she was certain her heart would burst from joy. “Because of you. I know you like to believe I saved you from your past—”
“That’s because you did.”
“What you don’t realize is that you saved me, too. Not from my past, but from a listless, boring future. I loved the job but hated who I was. Because of you, all that has changed.”
“We saved each other.”
“I guess we did.” A slight frown creased his brow. “Just promise me you will finish law school.”
“I will. I swear it on these grinning unicorns and pink, fluffy kittens.”
“That’s my girl. You’re going to make a kick-ass attorney, and an amazing mother.”
“I hope you’re right about both, but especially about being a parent. It scares me half to death, Houston.”
“I know, babe.” He pulled her closer and stroked her hair. “Me, too. But like JoElle told you all those months ago, use what you went through and make it work for the good.”
“Maybe you should change fields and become a shrink?” She gave him a grin.
“I like you pregnant. You’re sassy.”
“Good, because we’re going to fill this house with kids.”
“You know something? I love the sound of that. I really do.”
“You really have changed.”
“For the good?”
“Yes. For the good.” Houston kissed her, and Rosanna was lost in the heady, familiar sensation of melting into him. Her life was spread out before her, and filled with amazing possibilities. She and Houston each had survived losing a sibling, and trudging their way through her terrifying past. They’d come out the other side, stronger together, and more in love than they’d been before she regained her memory.
Rosanna knew their life would only get better because they had each other. And she would never stop loving this sexy, charming, amazing man. Her husband. The man who had brought her into the light, and taught her how to love.
