Refusing to Fall (Dennison Series Book 3) Page 27

by Ferraro, W

Reed would still break out into a sweat when he thought about how close he had come to losing her for good, but somewhere, somehow, this beautiful creature dancing with him, showed him mercy and fulfilled his deepest desire.

“What are you thinking so hard about?” She tipped her head upward; looking at him with the most beautiful brown orbs, she was sure to warm an entire room.

The smile he gave her glimmered in the twinkling lights above, and he hoped she could feel his love and his happiness in this small private moment.

  “You.”

Her returned smile lit up her face, causing his heart to increase in beats.

“Anything in particular about me, or is it just this dress?” She gave him a smirk to rival his own.

Leaning close so that his lips ghosted over the rim of her dainty ear, he murmured, “Oh, I have a whole lot of thoughts regarding this dress. Explicitly, the pleasure I will have in getting you out of it. However, to answer your question, I’m just thinking about what a damn lucky bastard I am to finally have the most beautiful, talented, sexy, and downright delectable wife.”

Colby smiled at her new title before she stood up on tiptoe and placed her red stained lips against his mouth. “Let’s just hope, dear husband, you still feel that way as I drag you through every art museum and gallery in Manhattan this weekend.”

Reed had offered to take her to Paris or Italy for their honeymoon, but Colby insisted on a short four-day honeymoon so that Reed could keep attendance promises for some state business. He felt guilty, yet humbled that she was willing to forgo grandeur so he could keep a promise to constituents. However, he intended to make it up to her in the near future.

The truth was, when Colby had finally said yes and accepted the ring that was always in Reed’s pocket, they, with the help of his family and Paige, arranged this wedding within two weeks. It was small and personal, just as they both had wanted, despite Bianca’s disappointment that the timing wasn’t for other reasons. They soothed his mother by asking to have it at her home, her disappointment was soon forgotten, and the wedding went off without a hitch.

Colby’s hand rested on his shoulder, and thanks to the intimate lighting, the Edwardian antique halo- styled ring shined and sparkled. Reed searched high and low for just the right ring, knowing Colby wouldn’t want anything showy, big, or modern. When he finally presented her ring to her, the look on her face and the perfect way it fit her hand, he knew he did well.

Holding the hand that now housed both her engagement ring and the simple gold band, which matched his own, he brought it to his mouth so he could kiss both rings before running his lips lightly over her knuckles.

“I will follow you anywhere, Colby.”

The music finally ended before turning into a more lively tune, and they invited their small number of guests to join them. However, neither of them moved away from the other nor looked elsewhere. The building could burn down around them, and as long as Colby was in his arms, he didn’t care.

“I’ll remember that when I want to explore the male nudes,” she teased seductively.

Not one to be outdone, he leaned his forehead against hers and grinned mischievously. “Hey, if that is what you want to explore, dear wife, then we won’t even need to leave the hotel room for that. I’m more than happy to pose and allow you to study all of me.”

Gratified, he heard her arousal in the way her breath hitched.

“Perhaps I should pack my sketchpad then?”

Feeling her short painted nails seductively caressing the back of his neck, Reed knew that she wasn’t the only one ready to leave the reception.

“I think it is a must pack item.”

They both stared at each other with lust-filled eyes as Reed dropped his head and claimed Colby’s lips in a completely indecent kiss that had their guests cheering and catcalling around them.

Unable to think of anything other than getting her out of here, he wanted to remove the beautiful creation of satin with his teeth before claiming her body completely. He was ready to love her until they both were sweaty and writhing in passion and ecstasy.

To their left, they heard a chuckle followed by a rather loud throat clearing. Reed regretfully pulled his mouth away from Colby’s to turn and see a slightly inebriated Mason asking to cut in with the lovely bride.

With obvious distress, Reed did so, walking away to grab a glass of champagne as he watched his brother and wife enjoy a wedding favorite dance.

“You had better take care of her. If not, remember I have a gun.”

Reed almost spit out his mouthful of bubbly before turning his attention to Colby’s lone bridesmaid. Paige wore a similar style dress to Colby’s in a brilliant emerald green. She teetered a bit on her heels, showing Reed that she was enjoying the bubbly as well.

Reed raised his arm, taking hold of her elbow to offer support as he looked Paige in the eye and swore, “Taking care of her and making her happy is my only goal in life. I promise you.”

Apparently accepting this, Paige smiled and placed a kiss on Reed’s cheek before stepping away, only to turn back around and look at him. “By the way, I particularly like the newest painting hanging in the stairwell. There is something similar in that one compared to a few of the others that Colby told me were her favorite. So as she was getting all primped to marry you today, I really studied them, and I finally realized that not many brushes could make such strokes. I particularly like the fingerprints.”

Reed couldn’t help but let the blush overcome his face. Even though his brothers knew his connection to those early paintings with Colby, to have Paige call him out wasn’t something he expected.

“Keep her happy, Reed. She is the only family I have left. She deserves the world, and if anyone could hand it to her, it is you.”

The compliment warmed Reed as he watched Paige walk toward Colby, pulling her attention away from Mason.

Mason joined him as he watched the two women dance. The two stood in silence, enjoying the view in front of them before Mason broke the silence. “Happy for you, my brother. Never thought you’d wind up married, but after meeting her, I don’t think you ever stood a chance.”

Reed watched his wife crook her finger at him, beckoning him to join her. Before he complied, he handed his empty glass to Mason and said, “Not only did I never stand a chance, I never knew what I was missing out on. Consider it; you will never know what you are missing.”

The newly married couple celebrated for the next few hours with their guests before a limo picked them up and brought them to the private airfield where a private jet was waiting to whisk them off to New York City.

Once aboard and after they had taken off, Reed waited for the seat belt lights to turn off and enjoyed living up to his word of removing Colby from her wedding dress.

Mr. and Mrs. Reed Dennison became members of the mile high club many times over, and by the time they reached their hotel suite a few hours later, Reed carried his wife over the threshold as she thanked him for being her inspiration for the many works of art she created. As Reed kicked the door closed behind them, he kissed his wife knowing that regardless what she said, Reed was the lucky one, for Colby would forever be his muse for all he wanted out of life.
