Blood Burdens (The Shadow World) Page 27

by Brandy Nacole

“Like you said, we just have to give it some time. They’ll come around.”

Micah gives me a skeptical look, “We’ll see. In the meantime, I think I’m going to lie low. There’s so much I need to learn before we embark on a fight against the council.”

“How are you handling all this?” I ask. “I mean, you must be feeling angry or mad or something for what you’re going through.” Oh, how I wish the bond was a two-way street. I didn’t know Micah very well so I couldn’t read him yet. He could lie to me and tell me he’s feeling fine, when in reality he was suffering.

“I would never lie to you. And how could I ignore that awesome advice you gave Addie?” Micah sighs, “I am having a little trouble with everything. I mean, I’m happy that I’m free from Cerelia and the Vampires but then again I’m sad because I’m now one of the very creatures I’ve always hated.”

  “I’m sorry. I really am.”

“I know you are but you did nothing wrong. You saved me. If I had been left under Cerelia’s rule there’s no telling what would have happened. I’m just going to have to adapt and learn.” Micah runs his hand up and slowly rubs his hand up and down my upper arm. “Will you help me?”

I let out a harsh laugh, “I don’t know how much help I will be. I know the basics but there’s still a lot that I need to learn myself.”

Micah leans in closer to me, “Then we’ll learn together.” My breath catches as he creeps closer to me. I knew he could hear my thoughts and racing heart but that didn’t stop the excitement I felt for being so close to him.

His lips almost brush mine when the door busts open. I jump back to face a pale Addie. There’s fear in her eyes, and I can hear her heart racing as she holds the phone out. “It’s Danika.” Her hand starts to shake. “The Ruling Council is convening.”

“For what? I haven’t even sent in the paperwork yet.”

Addie shakes her head, then looks at Micah. “They want Micah.”

  To be continued….
