Calling All Customers (Calling All... Book 3) Page 41

“Yes, of course we do.” Jenny frowned. “So what colour birds do you have now? Haven’t seen you for a while – I guess you stayed home during the cold weather.”

  “Birds?”

  “Yes – your birds.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, dear. I don’t have any birds. Please show me where you keep your toilet rolls and I’ll be on my way.”

“Tasha,” called Jenny, “could you show this lady to the toilet rolls, please.”

Tasha peeped around the corner of the first aisle. “Yes, sure,” she said, with a smirk.

A few minutes passed and Marj appeared at the counter with a pack of four pink toilet rolls.

Serving her silently and swiftly, Jenny made a conscious effort to leave out any further questions. She did not particularly want to know whether there were pink birds living at Marj’s house now. Or even if the turquoise ones had miraculously turned pink. Or even if she had multi-coloured ones which had flown away, creating giant rainbows in the sky. It really didn’t matter anymore – at least she was paying for her toilet rolls.

No, I mean, I’m really loving you, Miss Fartor. Xx

Ah, that’s sweet. Oh, go on then. You know, I think I could go with a four-bed mansion and acres of landscaped gardens. Maybe a summer house and a shimmering, Olympic-sized pool at the bottom of the garden too. Yes, I think I could stretch to that. Ha ha, no, seriously, I’m joking. Really loving you too, Mr Frey xx

I knew you’d make it Jen. I’ve made it too. I’ve also fallen in love with you and you can have it all. We’ll have matching pool towels as well – I’m serious. You will have it all xx

  Busy Busy

It’s seven o’clock and the shop is opening

In they come for their fags and mags

And later on the children are hoping

To have some sweeties in their bags

Shelves stacked full in strict array

  With labels brightly showing

Customers queue so they can pay

  Their baskets over-flowing

  Potatoes, milk, bread and butter

  Cards, pens and paperclips

You can have a little flutter

  With your lottery lucky dips
