"Uh, and what did you have in mind, sugar?"
"Just this. A sucker punch. Hell yeah, I owe you one. Only you won't know when it's coming. That's why they call it a sucker punch. You're trusting and then, pow, I let you have it, sucker. How does that sound, sugar?"
"Well, if that's the way it's got to be."
Gunshots, coming fast—one, two, three!—and what sounded suspiciously like an Indian war whoop sounded from inside the saloon. The sounds of brawling were replaced by the sight and sounds of men of every age and description running for their lives from the saloon.
Kate said, "Something tells me Iron Heart will do just fine at keeping the peace." She returned her attention to J.D. "And did we by any chance learn a lesson last night?"
His response was prompt because he'd given it thought and reached conclusions on his own.
He said, "We trust each other one hundred per cent, come hell or high water. Nothing matters without trust."
She smiled and came back into his arms. She graced his cheek with a tantalizing kiss.
"Right answer, handsome."
"So if you don't want to take a swing at me, what did you have in mind?"
Kate licked her lips. They glistened in the sunshine.
She said, "Let's go up to the room. I'll show you."
