“Hi,” I whispered back, my hands in my pants pockets, a futile attempt at keeping them still when they were really shaking with anticipation.
She took a step forward.
As did I.
Pulling my hands free of their confines, she reached out to me and the moment we connected, I knew.
Bailey Roach had finally become the calm I needed to soothe the disruption she left in me when I walked away from her.
The disruption I’d lived with for as long as I could remember at having her so close but never being able to love her freely.
A week later, wearing an elegant ivory dress and with a pink flower in her hair, Bailey walked down the aisle of the church we’d stumbled on together years before. Bishop gave my girl to me and we said our vows in front of just him, Roxanne and the priest. There was no fuss or excess, just love, because at the end of it all, that was what we had an abundance of and always had despite fighting everyone and each other along the way.
Now was when I would show Bailey that I chose her every time and that I always would, again and again without hesitation, just as I’d once promised her.
Years before, in the very place where we’d taken our vows, I’d asked God to let me have her in my life.
Finally, he’d decided to answer me and now it was our time.
This was the reconciliation after our years of disruption.
We were finally together.
The End
Acknowledgments
To Nikki Ashton for helping me get this over the line.
Without your help it could have been sat in the darkest depths of ‘unpublished’ for another four years to come.
Like every other day in our world, you always keep me going.
