“There’s no way we can say that your husband placed these flowers here.” The white officer commented while walking around my one floor apartment.
“You have to be kidding me. What is it, I have to end up dead before you will believe me. Aren’t the cops supposed to protect and serve the people?” I snapped at both of the officers.
There’s no hope in getting justice while in a marriage dispute. I’m at my wits ends and about to give up.
“Thanks, officers for nothing.” I sarcastically stated.
I opened my front door and escorted them out. As soon as they pulled off I closed the door behind me. I slide to the floor and cried for hours. I fell asleep in the same position.
RING, RING, RING. The loud sound of my doorbell echoed in my ears.
“Shit, the sun went down,” I whispered to myself.
That meant it had to be after seven pm, That should be Jasmine’s cousins, ready to party with my baby. I hadn’t even picked her up from my aunt’s house. I sent her there earlier to get her hair done.
“Who is it,” I shouted, fighting with the door, trying to get up from the floor.
“Open up this damn door!!” my aunt yelled.
I swung the door open. If my aunt isn’t the greatest aunt in the world, I’m not sure who is! My aunt did Jasmine’s hair and picked up both of my little cousins for the sleepover.
“Diamond, is everything okay.” She asked in a worried tone.
“Yes auntie, I’m just very tired and lost track of time.” I’m not a good liar, but just now I got it off.
“Hey, baby, happy birthday! You ready for your sleepover tonight and your party tomorrow?” Jasmine screamed and so did her cousins, running around ready to turn up.
“I’ll stay to help you out with these ratchet ass kids.” my aunt said, picking up the bags I left on the floor from earlier.
Man when I tell you kids can party. We baked cupcakes, ordered pizza, painted nails, had a talent show, and told stories. I left the girls in Jasmine’s room laying down in their princess customs watching movies. I plopped on my bed super drain. I’m not ready for these girls to grow up, they’re going to be party animals. I laughed at the thought of my baby girl being older.
“I cleaned, and now I’m about to blow this joint. Meet you at the hall tomorrow. I love you auntie baby.” My aunt kissed my cheek, grabbed her bag, and headed for the door.
I am mentally drained
Have you ever had a bad feeling, but didn’t know what the feeling meant. When I woke up in the next morning I had that feeling. I brushed it off. Nothing can mess up my baby girl’s big day. We all got ready to leave the house for the day. We got into the car, and pulled off. I got to the corner and remembered I forgot Jasmine’s bags with her decorations in it.
“Oh snap, princesses, I have to run back to the house I forgot something.” I made a quick U turn. All three of the rug rats huffed and puffed. I rushed into the house, walked into the kitchen, and grabbed the bags I had forgot.
“Didn’t I tell you, if I couldn’t have you no one else will?” I jumped, and turned around.
“Tranquel!! What are you doing here?” I whispered, dropping the bags, and taking slow steps backwards.
“You want a divorce??” he yelled, scaring every bone in my body. I started crying.
“What woman divorces her soul mate? We can work things out?” I couldn’t talk at all. I shook my head no, crying even harder.
“Tranquel, please don’t do this. Jasmine is outside, today is her party. You can be with whoever you have been with. I don’t want any money or nothing that belongs to you. Just let me go, please.”
He pulled out a gun, aiming it in my direction.
“Tell me you love me.” he spat in my direction.
“I can’t do that, Tranquel.” I moved alongside him, now my back was towards the front door.
He pointed the gun to his temples, with tears running off his chin. I can smell the liquor on his breath as he yelled at me.
“Tranquel, please put the gun down. Let’s talk about this. Come on let’s get you cleaned up and go to Jasmine’s birthday party.” My broken heart cried out to him, as my body began to weaken.
“YOU WANT A FUCKING DIVORCE. YOU THINK YOU'RE LEAVING ME.” he shouted.
He let eight shots go in my direction. I fell to the floor, hitting my head hard. All over my body I felt burning sensations. Blood was gushing out of my body, my vision started fading, along with my hearing.
How can someone I've been with all my life kill me. And on his daughter’s birthday. As I laid on my living room floor, slowly dying, I thought back on our relationship from the beginning. Now I noticed signs of his domestic violence. I never knew it was a trait passed down.
