On A Prayer Page 20

by Mary May

A few days later they went home to Abraham’s. They had decided to just stay there with Abraham and Agatha. Once Klara had announced she was expecting, Abraham wouldn’t hear of them leaving. It had all worked out for the best. She loved living there and she knew that both Abraham and Agatha would love and spoil baby Allie rotten. Alec had settled her into the rocker in the living room and she watched as Abraham held his great granddaughter for the first time. He had declared that the girl was an Adams through and through. Klara didn’t bother telling him that Allie might have a little Freeman in her veins as well. She just smiled and let him brag on her.

Her parents had come up for a few days and were chatting with Agatha and Alec. Alec was talking to her dad about the law firm that was now starting to climb its way out of bankruptcy. Alec had really taken to being the new vice-president. He had cleared out a lot of old accounts that were draining the firm’s resources and had brought in some new clients. The fresh influx of business had the law office back in the black for the first time in many years. Abraham bragged on Alec nearly every day.

Matthew reached out and gently stroked baby Allie’s soft head, making little cooing noises at her. He looked up at Klara and grinned. “I’m almost like a big brother, huh?”

She nodded. “Yes, sir, you are her big brother in all the ways that matter, sweetie.” Matthew had grown by leaps and bounds under Derrick’s excellent care. If Klara didn’t miss her guess, she would say that Matthew might have a new mommy soon by the long looks Derrick was giving his girlfriend Lacy. She hoped that was the case because she really liked her. Derrick had met Lacy at a playgroup and they had fallen pretty hard for each other. She was sweet and quiet-spoken, just what Matthew needed. Klara smiled as Derrick looked up from baby Allie and winked at Lacy.

Marcus had been released from prison and no one had seen or heard from him since his release. Roy was back in prison and was quickly moved to a maximum security facility. They never did figure out how he had pulled off his escape. He refused to tell his secret and whoever had helped him was staying silent as well. Klara just hoped they kept a little closer eye on him now that they knew what he was capable of. Clarissa had married a Dallas millionaire and the last they had heard she was happily draining his very deep pockets. Klara was just happy she had decided to leave them alone at last.

The biggest surprise was the woman sitting next to Alec. A year after they were married she showed up at their door and announced she was Alec’s half sister. Alissa had told them that Alec’s mother had died from a drug overdose, but before she had passed she told her about Alec and had her promise to find him. She had sent a message to Alec begging for his forgiveness. It was hard to watch her usually strong husband weep for the woman that he never really knew. He had confided in her that a lot of his tears were in not knowing about his mother’s salvation. Would she be waiting for him in heaven? Klara spoke the words that she felt sure the Lord placed in her heart for him. She told him that Amelia had prayed over her daughter every day and that she knew that the Lord would not let her faithful prayers go unanswered. That had calmed his heart a great deal. They got to know his sister and they adored her. She was spunky and reminded Klara so much of Alec, with her sass and wit, that there was never any doubt that she truly was his sister. Alec’s mother had even kept the family tradition of having the first name start with an A. She had named her daughter Alissa Rae Adams. As much as Klara and Alec loved Alissa, Abraham positively thought the world of her. Klara suspected that he felt like in a way his Amber had come home at last.

Scooter padded over and jumped into her lap, purring his loud rumbling purr as she stroked his head. She leaned her head back as she rocked and just soaked in the scene before her. She never would have believed it was possible for her to ever feel this again, this completeness, this peace and fulfillment. Her mother had told her how the entire church at home had been praying for her, including David’s parents. She knew that it was the strength of their prayers that had brought her full circle back into God’s arms again. She smiled and realized she was truly home and she had been guided back On A Prayer…

  THE END

  Note from the author…

I dedicate this book to all the prayer warriors out there, the ones that have stayed on their knees burning up God’s ears for lost family members, friends or maybe just someone that the Lord had placed on their hearts.

When I first started writing On A Prayer I thought it would be Klara’s prayers that brought her safely back into God’s arms again, but as the story unfolded I realized that wasn’t the case at all. It was the unending faithful prayers of her family, friends and church that brought her home.

So often we never know who is carrying us through the trials and sorrows of life with the strength of their prayers. To all of you who have done this, I thank you…

I would like to thank my own personal prayer warrior, my mama. Thank you is not enough for all you have prayed your children through. We love you!

I hope On a Prayer has touched your heart and helped you to understand that our heavenly Father walks with us through our tragedies, even when we push Him away.

By the way, the idea for this book was taken from a song I had written called “On a Prayer.” I’ll leave you with the words from the song. God bless!

  All my love,

  Mary May

  ON A PRAYER

I look around and wonder how on earth did I wind up here?

Somewhere between right and wrong I gave in to temptation and fear.

Lord, I know this isn’t where I should be, but I don’t know how to get there from here.

Then I hear Your voice inside my mind…

You can get here on a prayer…

You can get here on a prayer; all you have to do is call my name. My love for you is the same. No, it will never change no matter where you’ve been. My child, you’ve been gone so long; it’s time to come back home. You know I’ll always care; you can get here from there. You can get here on a prayer…

But Lord, I’ve hurt so many, I stumbled and I fell. I turned my back on You. I’ve been so untrue but You know all that too well. My father, please forgive me; I want to come back home. Please know that I’m sincere. I can get there from here; I’ll get there on a prayer.

You can get here on a prayer. All you have to do is call my name; my love for you is the same. No, it will never change. No matter where you’ve been. My child you’ve been gone so long, it’s time to come back home. You know I’ll always care. You can get here from there, you can get here on a prayer…

You know I’ll always care. You can get here from there…you can get here on a prayer…(Welcome home, my child…)
