I hungered to connect with him. To feel him connected to me. I wanted every part of him meeting every part of me. On top of me, beneath me, within me— touching every inch of me, inside and out.
I took my mouth away from his cock just long enough to tell him what I wanted.
Hours later we lay in each other’s arms, surrounded by the ragged circle of shells.
“I couldn’t save her, Peter,” I said. “I told her grandmother I could help her, but I couldn’t. All she wanted was to feel what she used to feel before I turned her. She wanted to feel your human emotions again. Love, and longing, and need, and the attachment that comes with those feelings. All that messiness. I can’t even understand why she wanted that. I am vampyre, Peter. I can portray those emotions on screen, mimic them masterfully, but I will never truly know what those emotions feel like, or why they’re even desirable. And I don’t care. I will never feel them. Can you understand that?”
He raised himself on one arm and stared at me for a long moment. “Yes,” he answered, “I think I can.”
I touched his cheek with my fingertips. “Then are you sure you want to continue this? Whatever ‘this’ is. Are you all right if we continue a little longer?” My breath caught as I waited for his answer. I don’t know what love feels like, but I knew I didn’t want to lose him if I didn’t have to.
“You’re a vampyre, right?” he said, smiling. “I think that means we’ve got a lot longer.” He kissed me. “And yes, I’m all right with that.” He kissed me again. “I just have one question. Well… for now, at least.”
My breath caught again.
“Did you ever spend time with Napoleon?”

Confirmed grump Eddie Valentino placed the ad. Hotshot twenty-something Talba Wallis knew exactly how to answer it.
And thus was born the dynamic duo of New Orleans private detectives, one cynical, sixty-five-year-old Luddite white dude with street smarts, and one young, bright-eyed, Twenty-First century African-American female poet, performance artist, mistress of disguise, and computer jock extraordinaire. Think Queen Latifah and Danny DeVito in a hilariously rocky relationship— yet with enough detective chops between them to find Atlantis.
5.0 out of 5 stars Julie Smith’s Triumphant Return
Long time fans of Julie Smith's witty mysteries will not be disappointed by this new title. Spinning off a character from her latest Skip Langdon mystery “82 Desire”, Talba Wallis, this book definitely ranks up there with Smith's Edgar Award winning “New Orleans Mourning.”

About the Author
On the heels of Adrienne’s best-selling memoir, There Are Worse Things I Could Do, she created Ovsanna Moore, the 450-year-old vampire cum current-day Scream Queen heroine of the witty romantic thrillers Vampyres of Hollywood and Love Bites. Carolco Pictures has acquired the rights to her novel Love Bites, for which she co-wrote the screenplay. Production begins in the fall.
Adrienne began her first career on the Broadway stage, first playing Tevye’s second daughter, Hodel, in Fiddler on the Roof, and then winning a Theatre World Award and Tony nomination for her creation of Betty Rizzo in the original Broadway production of Grease.
The hit series Maude provided her move to television, as Bea Arthur’s daughter, Carol. Since then, she has made more than 450 film and television appearances; her most favorite among them being Ruthie, the Snake Dancer, in HBO’s series Carnivale. She spent nine months portraying Suzanne Stanwyck on General Hospital and was often seen as Oswald’s mom on The Drew Carey Show. She also portrayed Victoria Grayson’s (Madeleine Stowe) mother on ABC’s hit series Revenge.
Movie fans know her best for her performances in The Fog, Escape From New York, Creepshow, Swamp Thing, Back to School, and Cannonball Run. Her recent films include Divine Access with Billy Burke, Patrick Warburton, and Gary Cole, In Extremis with John Savage and Tobin Bell, and the Academy Award winner for Best Picture Argo.
Adrienne’s voice can be heard in myriad cartoons and video games, most noticeably as Catwoman in Batman, The Animated Series, as Hera in God of War, and as Dr. Tilson in Halo 4.
She recently assumed the role of Berthe with the Broadway Touring Company of the renowned musical Pippin.
